The roots of the Common Angelica are long and spindle-shaped, thick and fleshy, and can sometimes weigh up to 3 pounds. Angelica is largely used in the grocery trade, as well as for medicine, and is a popular flavouring for confectionery and liqueurs. Angelica is thought to have a soothing effect as well as antibacterial and antifungal properties. Use with caution during pregnancy, also large quantities may induce photosensitivity.
