Blood Orange Essential Oil

bloodorange.jpgBotanical Name: Citrus sinensis
Plant Part: Crude Fruit Peel
Extraction Method: Cold Pressed
Origin: Italy
Description: Citrus sinensis is a middle-sized evergreen tree, with an arborescent stem, covered with bark of a greenish-brown color, having auxiliary spines on the branches. The leaves are alternate, ovate-oblong, acute, shining green, the stalk more or less winged. The flowers are large, white, rendering the atmosphere around very fragrant; the calyx urceolate and 5-cleft: the petals 5, oblong; the stamens 20 or even more; the filaments compressed at the base, more or less united there, and polyadelphous; the anthers oblong and yellow.
Color: Deep Orange
Common Uses: Therapeutically, it is very similar to sweet orange in its uses, although considered the most antidepressant of the citrus oils. Antidepressant, antiseptic, antispasmodic, aphrodisiac, carminative, cordial, deodorant, digestive, stimulant (nervous), tonic (cardiac, circulatory).
Consistency: Light
Note: Middle
Strength of Aroma: Medium
Blends well with: Lavender, lemon, clary sage, myrrh and spicy oils such as nutmeg, cinnamon and clove.
Aromatic Scent: Blood Orange essential oil has a warm, fresh citrus scent, radiant, fruity and tangy. More intensely aromatic than the sweet orange we are familiar with, Blood Orange adds a sparkling citrus note to blends. The blood orange has streaks of red in the fruit, and when squeezed the juice is often reddish.
History: Also known as Maltese Orange, the fruit originated in India (some say Vietnam) and was called na rangi in Sanskrit. The na rangi or naranja was translated as norange, and in English usage a norange was back-formed into the more acceptable an orange. The same thing happened in French and Italian, but in Spanish it is still naranja.
Cautions: No known toxicity. Avoid exposure to sunlight after skin application due to possible photo toxicity.

I am so sorry that I ordered the small bottle of this--fantastic scent, holds up well in M&P and CP, doesn't color the soap-----I am very excited to offer these to my customers and I know they'll just love them. I'll be back for more!!!

As soon as I opened this bottle, I couldn't stop smelling it. I haven't even had a chance to use it in anything yet and I can hardly wait to do so. I tried to describe the smell to a family member and was stumped. It reminds me strongly of clementines but also tangerines and every variety of orange out there. And that still doesn't even begin to describe it. It's sweet and tangy and fresh and fruity and you can all take my word for it being an effective anti-depressant. And I'm still shocked by the rock-bottom price of this oil. If you even remotely like the smell of oranges, do not even bother with a small tester size of this one. :o)

WOW! I know the description lists the strength of this oil as "medium", but it's really strong! So strong that some of the most potent oils I purchased either can't stand up to it, or compete so strongly that they can't be blended. However, this is a good thing - given how far a single drop of this oil will take you, the price is even more amazing. Also, this works even better than clary sage EO as an antidepressant! (Fresh clary sage is still the best, but this oil really gives it a run for its money)! Very, very impressed with this oil, which is richer than sweet orange, but still incredibly bright!

This citrus oil is very similar to sweet orange essential oil, which most of us are familiar with. However it is sweeter and feels a bit darker or warmer than the popular sweet orange. It's definately worth a try!

Beautiful Blood Orange! Another one of my favorites used in so many blends/synergies. A bit warmer than the typical sweet orange but really wonderful! You can't help but smile when enjoying the aroma.
