Botanical Name: Matricaria chamomilla L. - syn. Matricaria recutica, Chamomilla recutita, Matricaria recutita Plant Part: Flower head Extraction Method: Steam Origin: Hungary Description: The Chamomile German is an annual, reaching up to 60cm in height. From May to August it flowers, sporting top-heavy flower heads with a fragrance similar to apples. Color: Deep blue Common Uses: Abscesses, allergies, arthritis, boils, colic, cuts, cystitis, dermatitis, dysmenorrhea, earache, flatulence, hair, headache, inflamed skin, insect bites, insomnia, nausea, neuralgia, PMS, rheumatism, sores, sprains, strains, stress, wounds. The therapeutic properties of Chamomile German oil include: analgesic, anti-spasmodic, antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, emmenagogue, digestive, hepatic and vulnerary. German Chamomile contains Azulene, a powerful anti-inflammatory agent. This blue crystal is not actually present in the plant, but forms in the oil and only a small quantity is needed. The quality is generally graded by the azulene content and good quality oil should contain between 4.5 – 5%. It is this azulene that gives it a deep blue color. Consistency: Medium Note: Middle Strength of Aroma: Medium Blends well with: Bergamot, Clary sage, Lavender, Geranium, Jasmine, Tea tree, Grapefruit, Rose, Lemon and Ylang Ylang. Aromatic Scent: The chamomile German essential oil has a sweet, straw-like fragrance. History: Derived from the Greek word meaning 'ground apple' and the Latin word 'nobilis', referring to a noble flower, it certainly is a plant of many uses. To the Egyptians it was a herb dedicated to the sun to cure fevers and to the moon for its cooling ability. Cautions: Non-toxic and non-irritant, yet since they can be used as an emmenagogue, it should be avoided during pregnancy.

I use this oil when I have trouble sleeping, sometimes it works, sometimes not. Also when I was visiting my uncle, my two year old cousin has trouble sleeping at night. So at first I just put some on a tissue to let him smell it, which worked for the first two nights, but the 3 night, his parents went out, and was so frazzled and upset by 12 at night that I put some diluted on his chest, and litteraly 5 minuts later he was sound asleep.

I have been combining the chamomile with carrot seed and blue cypress in glacial clay for a mask. The results are fabulous. The changes in tone, texture and look of my skin is great. The pores are smaller and my skin feel hydrated and soft. I love these oils!

I prefer this to the Roman version. Much sweeter and more floral. This is in my opinion better for perfume making as well.

One of my favorites and one that any aromatherapist can not do without. This one is the finest chamomile with a superb anti-inflammatory blue azulene. Of its many uses, I most often turn to German Chamomile for skin problems. But its many other uses include: for abscesses, acne, allergies, arthritis, boils, burns, chilblains, cuts, eczema, flaky skin, headache, inflamed joints, inflamed skin, insect bites, insomnia, irritability, irritated skin, itchy skin, menopausal problems, nausea, rashes, sunburn, tissue regeneration. (Also known as Blue Chamomile, Camomile, Chamomile Blue Oil, Hungarian Chamomile, Matricaria recutica, Single Chamomile, Sweet false Chamomile.) This one I consider reasonably priced as you do not need very much for the full effect.
