We purchased 1/2 ounce of chaulmogra oil on August 19, 2006. As a product for sale, the item did not get a purchaser until November 13, 2007. The scent of the oil after that time has become very much like vinegar. However, that note is lost once the oil is applied to the skin. It becomes dark and earthy but not heavy and with a sweet undertone. We compared this oil to the scent of Hydrocarpus kurzii expeller pressed fixed oil. The kurzii chaulmogra has less scent in the jar but more scent on the body, even though it does make a similar transformation. It also keeps some of the vinegar sharpness on application, making it a more complex scent in perfume blends. We still have to research if the kurzii and the laurifolia have the same medicinal properties. To use for the skin healing properties, however, we have decided to go with the solid kurzii rather than the chunky laurifolia offered here.

This is thick and resinous and will need some heating but that is simple enough. The scent is a lot like Carrotseed oil in my opinion but not as strong.
