Chenopodium Essential Oil

Description: Chenopodium plant is a coarse, perennial weed with stout, erect, angular and grooved stem growing to a height of about 2 feet. The oil is obtained by distillation from the crushed fruits & leaves of Chenopodium ambrosioides.

Color: Colorless to pale yellow clear liquid, darkens on maturity.

Common Uses: Chenopodium Essential Oil is especially useful for the removal of round worms. It is also diaphoretic, diuretic and expectorant. Because of its efficacy, ease of administration and low toxicity, this essential oil is perhaps the most valuable of all the vermifuge remedies. This essential oil contains a high percentage (60 to 65 percent) of ascaridol, an unstable alcohol readily decomposed on heating, with the production of a hydrocarbon.

Aromatic Scent: Chenopodium Essential Oil has a penetrating, camphor-like odor.

History: Also known as American Wormseed oil, its traditional use has been to treat round worms. The American aborigines used the whole herb in decoction in painful menstruation, but its principal use has been as a vermifuge, and it is to day considered one of the best expellants of lumbricoids.

Cautions: This oil has low-level toxicity. Consult a Physician or qualified Practitioner before use. Avoid use during pregnancy.
