Description: Balsam fir is a North American fir, native to most of eastern and central Canada. The needles are about 3/4 to 1-1/4 inches long with two white stripes running down the underside of each needle.
Color: Dark Brown resin Common Uses: Fir Balsam essential oil is reputed to be an anticoagulant and an anti-inflammatory. It can be used in formulations by massage therapists to help relax the body and the nervous system and to ease muscle spasms. Fir Balsam absolute can used to bring out masculine, outdoorsy attributes in men’s fragrances, bath preparations, air fresheners, soaps, and shaving creams. It can also be used in formulations for insect sprays.

Aromatic Description: Fir balsam has a balsamic green aroma with hints of fruity-sweet notes.
** It is important to note that all absolutes are extremely concentrated by nature. They should not be evaluated in this state unless you are accustomed to the undiluted fragrance. For those trying Absolutes for the first time, we strongly recommend they be evaluated in dilution. Otherwise, the complexity of the fragrance - particularly the rare and exotic notes - become lost.
History: Balsam oil was one of the three oils found in King Tutankhamun’s grave in 1922 and it is now thought that balsam was the “Balm of Gilead.” It is also mentioned many times in the Bible in 1 Kings, 2 Kings, 2 Chronicles, the Psalms, and others.
Cautions: Fir balsam is reported to produce dermatitis when used in concentrated form. Use well diluted.
