OK, so I ordered the stuff, read the .5 or 5 ml fuzzyfoggy stuff, got the stuff, reread the fuzzifoggi. I'm ticked that there's no obvious, in your face directions included. Or a click to give me some company supplied direction.
I'm just talking basic stuff: Take 1 cup of your shampoo/conditioner/bath gel/body milk and and 1 drop of this EO, half a drop of another EO if it's to be a minor partner. Colour it with 1 drop of colour. If this doesn't work, use another cup and guestimate what your adjustments should be." I don't want someone's hard earned, secret formulas, just a friendly head tilt in the right direction, preferably from New Direction, as I bought all this stuff from them.
So this is what, with lack of any other more experienced direction, I'll be doing. I don't mind wasting a bit on my mad chemist experiments, but I wish I didn't have to. |

It really depends on the person's personal preference and also the safety guidelines of fragrance or essential oils. There is no one size fits all. _________________ Irena

Yeah, sometimes it feels like you're being left high and dry - but every product is different. Every preservative is different. Every FO is different. And EOs have a place of their own. Some people react, some conflict with others, some cause troubles, some are relatively benign if used in small enough portions. And every product handles FOs, EOs and preservatives differently.
If NDA came out with a guideline for that kind of thing, it would be a THICK book, just to give basic guidelines. They're, rightfully, leaving it up to the consumer to educate themselves - and (I'm sure) prepared for those who aren't will - simply to buy premade products from someone who is.
I suggest you pick one product to start with - and learn about it, what you can add, what can't and how it should be done. And go from there. |

| Thanks for the replies/support. So.... last night I just opened the bottles, opened the EOs, spilt some EO, measured out a small amount of shampoo & conditioner and eyedropped varying amounts of EO lavender, clary sage, rosemary & sandalwood. Then I dyed the stuff - some darker, some lighter.... mixed the stuff, small bottled the stuff and waited until the flames died down. This morning I used the stuff - and quite liked it. I'll continue reading, playing mad cosmochemist..... we'll see, we'll see. |

From the New Directions Australian website, I think from memory, its safe to add up to 5% of stuff to the bases before you need to add extra preservative. _________________ www.zalibeauty.com

I'm not a newbie with essential oils, but I am one regarding lotions and skincare stuff. This book is a great starting point:
"Natural Bodycare: Creating Aromatherapy Cosmetics for Health & Beauty," by Julia Meadows (1998).
Lots of recipes! |
