Plant Part: Resin Extraction Method: Steam Origin: India
Description: The Frankincense tree originates from the Middle East, and is small with abundant pinnacle leaves. The flowers are white or pale pink. Frankincense resin begins as a milky-white sticky liquid that flows from the trunk of the tree when it's cut, healing the wound.
Color: Pale yellow green Common Uses: The therapeutic properties of Frankincense oil include use as an antiseptic, astringent, carminative, digestive, diuretic, sedative, tonic and expectorant. Frankincense oil is said to help rejuvenate an aging skin, is a skin tonic and is effective with bacterial and fungal infections. The anti-inflammatory properties of this oil is reputed to be an effective treatment for joint pain and arthritis. Frankincense can also be used as an insect repellent and is also widely used in cosmetics and soap manufacturing.
Consistency: Medium Note: Base
Strength of Aroma: Strong
Blends well with: basil, bergamot, cardamom, cedarwood, chamomile, cinnamon, clary sage, coriander, geranium, ginger Aromatic Scent: A rich woody, earthy scent with a deeply mysterious nuance. It is a grounding aroma, and often used in meditation.
History: Frankincense is widely known since biblical times. Frankincense is from the French word 'Franc' meaning 'luxuriant' or it could be 'real incense'. Also known as Olibanum, Frankincense was used by the ancient Egyptians in their religious ceremonies and was used as incense by the Greeks and the Romans. Cautions: Frankincense oil is non-toxic and non-irritant and could be used by most people.

This oil is outstanding. The first time I smelt it I thought I was going to levitate off the floor! It puts me right in my perfect place, and is awesome in my skin care routine. I use this in a face elixer, and a body scrub. I get MANY compliments on how I smell.

Even for a Frereana, this price is amazing, and the oil is truly lovely! I am so very, very happy with this frankincense.
There are times when I think I may like the Frereana frankincense even better than the Carteri. Blasphemy, I know, but the Frereana is so uplifting and airy, while still maintaining that wonderful mysterious spiritual Frankincense-ness. It's still earthy, but it has a good deal of air in it as well -- a useful oil when remaining grounded isn't really so much your problem as getting off the ground in the first place is.
And of course, the far lower price means that you don't have to scrimp and save and stress and nervously count the drops every time you think that you really could use a bit of frankincense in something. Go ahead - throw some in the bath! Spritz it around the room! Toss some more in that diffuser blend! Forget about those fragrance oil imitations: you can afford to use this one. Real Frankincense is good for your soul.

I love this EO! I use a few drops in a fine-mist spray bottle (with purified water). I spray on face twice a day. The scent is wonderful, but dissipates quickly. This was my first order from New Directions. What a great company!!

I purchased this oil primarily as a base-fixative. As far as being a fixative, it'll probably work out ok, but as a base I am sorely, unimpressed. I was looking for something stronger and I may have to mix in a little Vetiver & Myrrh in order to get it. Some of my guys are secure enough to wear non-earthy colognes, however when I'm actually going for that earthy scent what I end up with in this version of Frankincense is a soapy smell.
Lastly, as a base the scent dissipates far too quickly for my liking, two hours and it's all over. As a reference I use a 10-15% EO standard in my cologne formulations.

The best frankincense I've ever purchased. Strong, but multitoned, it's very nice in blends as well as standalone. Think a mix with sandalwood, lavender and cedarwood... heaven!!

This frankincense has a lighter, less earthy scent to me than the carteri. Nice for fresher, uplifting blends rather than grounding blends.

I am extremely pleased with this product and the prices cannot be beat. This oil is revitalizing and good for the spirit. I buy the small bottles and carry them in my purse, back pack and keep it at work. This oil is very helpful in releasing negativity. It is extremely effective in helping you relax and feel peaceful. I can't say enough about this product!

This is the best Frankincense I have ever used....It's probably my all time favorite oil. It works wonders for your skin, blended with carrot seed oil it can literally take 10 years off your skin's appearance .
At my old supplier I used to pay this much for the 1/2 " size, and the quality was not as good. Thanks ND...
If it was up to me I would never have to order from any other suppliers, but unfortunately I know ND cannot possibly carry every single oil.
There are however some oils I love that ND does not carry and I have to order these from other sources. Perhaps ND can take a poll and ask their customers what oils they use, that ND does not carry and if enough people want a certain oil it can be brought in.
The four that I love and are truly helpful ( that ND does not carry) and incidentally blend perfectly with Frankincense are:
AMMI VISNAGA KHELLA MOROCCO
BLACK CUMIN NIGELLA SATIVA
INULA INULA GRAVEOLENS
PALO SANTO BURSEREA GRAVEOLENS

If frankincense is good for Cleopatra's skin care, it was well worth a try for me! This exotic oil is the best I've ever used. It's therapeutic attributes rejuvinate the skin when I add it to my facial blends. I also notice a difference in the feel of the skin on my face -- it feels smoother. I definitely will continue to use it, and will certainly order more!

This frankincense is the best I've ever used. It is rich, complex with just the perfect amount of bite. It isn't bitter or sour like so many other frankincense oils out there. Definately worth a try!

Frankincense is one of my favorites as it always lends a helpful hand in dealing with the spiritual side of things. This one is pure and unadulerated and most certainly will be used over and over again.
