Description: A hybrid plant developed by crossing spike Lavandula latifolia with true Lavandula angustifolia. Comes in a variety of forms due to its hybrid nature. Generally, the plant is larger then true lavender and flowers variety from blue to grayish. Natural lavandin occurs in mountainous regions of southern France, however is mainly cultivated in Spain, Hungary, Yugoslavia and Argentina. Color: Colorless to pale yellow
Common Uses: Lavandin is used almost exclusively for scent. Many commercial manufacturers use Lavandin Grosso as replacements for Lavender 40/42. However, it should be noted that Lavandin has a much rougher, camphor type fragrance that is not as well rounded as traditional Lavender 40/42. It is also reputed to have applications with colds and head congestion.

Strength of Aroma: Medium
Blends well with: Lavandin blends well with most oils but has a tendency to overpower with heavy camphor overtones.
Aromatic Scent: Fresh camphoraceous topnote and a woody herbaceous undertone.
History: This hybrid apparently evolved naturally near the seas in Spain, Italy and France. It is now commercially produced in these same countries.
Cautions: Due to the high camphor content, Lavandin should be avoided during pregnancy and by those with epilepsy.
