Description: The Lavender plant grows to about one meter in height and produces long thin purple-blue flowers. The entire plant is covered with oil glands, which are in the star-shaped hairs that cover the plant.

* Important Note: While a number of suppliers sell nature identical versions of lavender 40/42, ours is 100% natural. Regular users may notice a difference in the scent of this new batch, freshly received from our new supplier. The floral top note is followed by a more earthy back note.

Color: Pale yellow to yellow liquid.

Common Uses: Lavender 40/42 Essential Oil has the most floral scent of all the Lavenders, though its therapeutic levels are the lowest. Nonetheless, it is recognized as having some strong properties. They include being analgesic, anticonvulsant, anti-depressant, anti-microbial, anti-rheumatic, antiseptic, anti-spasmodic, anti-toxic, carminative, cholagogue, choleretic, cicatrizant, cordial, cytophylactic, diuretic, emmenagogue, deodorant, hypotensive, insecticide, nervine, parasitical, rubefacient, sedative, stimulant, sudorific, tonic, vermifuge, and as a vulnerary. Lavender 40/42 is often the Lavender oil of choice for applications in soaps, candles, perfumes and cosmetics. The reason is that the 40 – 42 refers to the standardization of both Linalool and Linalyl acetate esters resulting in a very consistent floral scent.

Blends well with: Bay, Bergamot, Chamomile, Citronella, Clary Sage, Geranium, Jasmine, Lemon, Mandarin, Orange, Palmarosa, Patchouli, Pine, Thyme, Rosemary, Rosewood and Ylang-ylang.

Aromatic Scent: Lavender 40/42 Essential Oil has a floral, herbaceous, fresh scent with balsamic woody undertone.

History: Lavender has been used since ancient times as much for its perfume as for its medicinal properties. Romans added lavender to their bath water, hence the name derived from the word 'to wash' - lavare.

Cautions: Avoid high doses during pregnancy because it is a uterine stimulant.

Smells just like Lavender. Use it in our cp soaps and it holds up nice had a bar for 1 yr on our shelf and scent is still there. Recommend this laveder.

This EO is great for CP soap--I have a batch curing, and for the first week I could smell lavender wafting up from the basement every time I walked into the house! I've also used it in facial masks with French green clay and some aloe vera juice with great results.

I love the scent of this EO. I have purchased several Lavender EO from various sources in the past and must say that this one from ND, Lavender 40/42 is by far my favorite. I have diffused it in my nebulizer.....divine....I've also used it to make my bath salts....sublime.

I am new to ND. I just got my order and I love, love, love this essential oil! I am blending it with sweet almond oil and adding both to a cream base. I use it as body cream for myself and my son's eczema. I will be ordering more from ND!!

Love this in my CP soaps and bath bombs. the scent is stronger than expected and loved by all my customers. One of my customers wont even use the soap because she would rather sniff it all day! Smells like the real thing.

A standard lavender oil, a bit more on the herbaceous and sharp/camphorous side of things. However that initial harshness seems to be fading with time. Great value.

Best price around. The oil itself is good quality. I have smelled better (or at least stronger smelling 40/42s) but for a considerably higher price. This oil gets the job done for cp soaps and doesn't break the bank. If you want a more nuanced or distinctive lavender NDA does offer almost a dozen different varieties. This one is just very basic and economical.

This particular lavender has a very balanced aroma. I prefer it over other Lavender EO's. My clients say this is a pleasing aroma, and even the men enjoy it when I mix it with bergamot or lemon.

This lavender essential oil has a nice clean scent. I've read that it has some disinfecting properties. I find it relaxing and refreshing. The price isn't bad for the quality too! When I use this in the tub (with unscented bubble bath) - I use about a cap full of the lavender essential oil. I also add a little tansy blue essential oil if I want the scent to be more floral and slightly sweet.

I must say that even though I don't usually like lavender, I LOVE this oil! I used it in my M&P soaps for Christmas and everyone, including myself, loved them. This oil does not have the harsh odor that I usually associate with lavender. It has a lovely herbed floral aroma that will blend well with almost anything. I wouldn't purchase this oil anywhere else because I am so thrilled with this one! NDA also has the best customer service I've ever experienced.

I've ordered three Lavenders from New Directions: Lavender French, Lavender 40/42 and Lavender Bulgarian. All three smell similar in the bottle, but in use each takes on a life of its own. Lavender 40/42 is the most herbaceous of the three. Great in strong blends such as Eucalyptus or Spearmint.

Fantastic quality - I've tried this EO from many suppliers, but will stick with NDA from now on. For 40/42 it has a great floral scent, and less harsh herb notes than I'm used to. This grade is perfect for CP soap, and I also use it in all my other products: bath bombs, lotions, salts. The 3kg size is also very well packaged, no fumbling, no mess.

Placed some lavender 40/42 on a piece of foam rubber between the cushions of my sofa in hopes my cat would find another place to sleep. Instead of chasing him away, he curled up in a comfortable ball and spent the day snoozing. My friend who was visiting, sat on the sofa and read the morning paper. She had never smelled lavender. "What is that delightful odor, it is so soothing and comforting that I don't want to leave the room." Even my husband, who never comments about my favorite perfume, said that he also had noticed a very pleasant smell. This lavender is exceptional, and deserves more than five stars. (I would be careful with the upholstery since this is an essential oil. I have a place between the cushions that doesn't touch the upholstery. )

This Lavender is simply the best for consistency in cold process soap making. I have compared other 40/42's and this is the best. All of their other Lavender essential oils are wonderfull as well.

I wasn't too sure about the 40/42 Lavender as I had ordered this in the past from some other companies and wasn't too pleased with it. But when I used New Directions 40/42 I was very happily surprised! I will use it from now on...love the price too. I use it in many blends for my cp soaps and in other products.
