Lavender Essential Oil (Australian)

lavenderaustralian.jpgBotanical Name: Lavandula angustifolia
Plant Part: Flower Head
Extraction Method: Steam Distilled
Origin: Australia
Description: An evergreen woody shrub, up to 1 meter tall, with pale green, narrow linear leaves and violet blue flowers. This rare species cultivated in Australia belong to the Pterostachys group.
Color: Pale yellow with a tint of green
Common Uses: They include as an analgesic, anticonvulsive, antidepressant, antiphlogistic, antirheumatic, antseptic, antispasmodic, antiviral, bactericide, carminative, cholagogue, cicatrisant, cordial, cytophylactic, decongestant, deodorant, and as a diuretic. The scent of Lavender is said to have a calming effect on the body and it can be used to reduce anxiety, stress and promote sleep. The only significant difference is the region from which it was grown. The different soil, temperature, precipitation, etc. contributes to some subtle changes in scent, the greatest advantage being for more sophisticated label claims.
Consistency: Thin
Note: Top
Strength of Aroma: Strong
Blends well with: bay, bergamot, chamomile, citronella, clarysage, geranium, jasmine, lemon, mandarin, orange, palmarosa, patchouli, pine, tangerine, thyme, rosemary, rosewood, ylang ylang
Aromatic Scent: Lavender Australian is a rare species with a well-balanced and full-bodied aroma. Herbalist regards Lavender as the most useful and versatile essential oil for therapeutic purposes. Lavender is the essential oil most commonly associated with burns and healing of the skin. It also has antiseptic and analgesic properties, which will ease the pain of a burn and prevent infection. It also has cytophylactic properties that promote rapid healing and help reduce scarring.
History: The temperate climatic requirement for growing Lavandula species has resulted in plantings in all states of Australia but the most interest appears to be in Victoria and southern New South Wales.
Cautions: Non toxic, non irritant and non sensitizing

This might surprise some of you, but try brushing your teeth with the Australian Lavender! Take four to six neat drops in a small glass container and dip your toothbrush. Now, do not swallow it! But when you expel it, you will notice the melted plaque and other stuck on guck that has been brushed loose. You can mix a drop of peppermint and Eucalyptus, but it works better neat. People often comment on my smile now! I am thankful for New Directions Aromatics and the quality oils they provide and am grateful to be able to share this finding! Happy brushing.

A surprisingly nice scent comparable to French lavender.

I've bought different lavenders from NDA, and I also find this one surprisingly nice. It's very similar to French lavender or Bulgarian lavender. A very classy scent with enough balance of sweetness and herbal tones.

I find this lavender has an herbal/woodsy/spicy scent. I dont find it sweet at all. I bought all the lavenders to see which one I liked best. For me, this one is not at the top of the list, I like my lavenders on the sweet side.

I purchased Lavendar for its therapeutic effects, but was more than pleasantly surprised by this top quality oil's clean, fresh, and intoxicating scent. I put two or three drops in my aromatherapy bubble bath and then sit back and relax into fragrant and therapeutic oblivion! I also use it in my body lotions, and even in my toner. It's great!
