Quite medicinal in odor, like a lovechild of eucalyptus and tea tree. Dynamic and powerful in respiratory blends, but not for perfume work. I haven't experiment with this in my facial elixirs, but I'm sure the effects are intensely similar to tea tree oil. So similar, in fact, that you might just be better off leaving a half ounce or so of this in the back of your kit and doubling the tea tree oil you keep on hand as a replacement for niaouli.

Rating:

Similar to tea tree in smell, very camphoraceous, but with an odd fishy undertone.

I'll admit I do NOT like the smell of this stuff. It's along the lines of tea tree or eucalyptus but has more of a "chemical" smell, hard to explain. But you can mix it w/ some other good-smelling oils and it'll tone it down, just be warned.

I have never smelled niaouli before, but to me, it smells horrible, like paint solvent. I can't speak for its therapeutic value yet, as I am trying it for the first time. Luckily, I mixed it with eucalyptus, lemon, lavander, and wild ravensara into a cold mix, so I can no longer pick up the scent. I hope it is as healing as all the other reviewers say it is, since I purchased this oil on the strength of the other reviews.

This is so healing, I mixed Niaouli, Bergamot and Lavender with Sweet Almond oil and put 4 or 5 drops in my dogs ears. In a day and a half her ears weren't itchy anymore, and they smelled good too ! She (before I tried this) was constantly scratching her ears, and they had a bad odor-Not anymore thanks to New Directions high quality oils !!

The Niaouli scent is great for when you feel congested, after you breathe it in you can almost feel your body start to heal itself. I think it also helps with sore muscles.

I bought this oil a while ago but just opened it a few weeks ago. I am so sorry I waited this long. What a great oil...really adds a snap to my respitory blends. Great price for an outstanding quality oil

Good value. Excellent substitute for eucalyptus when the ketones are unwanted, as with children.

This one is Often confused with True Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia). And its uses are similar. Use for abscesses, aches and pains, antiseptic, asthma, burns, cuts, insect bites, oily skin, poor circulation, rheumatism, sinusitis, urethritis, urinary and viral infections, wounds. Great price, good quality.
