Certified Organics: This Certified Organic Butter is QAI Certified. The National Organic Program develops, implements, and administers national production, handling, and labeling standards for organic agricultural products. The QAI also accredits the certifying agents (foreign and domestic) who inspect organic production and handling operations to certify that they meet USDA standards.

Our Shea Butter from Burkina Faso is 100% natural, organic and Fair Trade Certified. The shea nuts are hand gathered by groups of women in villages in Burkina Faso and are sold at a fair price to the butter producers. To produce a product to organic and export quality standards, the butter is transported by cart to the processing plant where it is purified, filtered and stored in hygienic metal drums. This premium Organic Shea Butter is of superior quality with its clean fresh scent and wonderful yellow color and grainy texture.

Common Uses: Used predominantly for skin care, Shea Butter is known for its moisturizing and emollient properties. Rich in vitamins and fatty acids, it penetrates deeply into the epidermis and leaves a smooth, satiny finish. Shea Butter can be used to make massage butters, body butters, lip balms, as a moisturizing agent in soaps and shaving creams, and as a treatment for minor skin wounds and irritations.

Appearance: This butter is yellow in color and has a rich creamy texture.

Please Note: Shea Butter from Burkina Faso may in some instances be grainy in nature. This is a natural occurrence, to achieve a smooth texture and consistency we recommend that the product be heated until liquefied, mixed thoroughly, cooled off and stored in cold temperatures.

Recommended Usage:
• Lotions & Creams: 2 - 20 %
• Balms: 5 – 100 %
• Bar Soaps: 5 - 20 %
• Hair Conditioners: 1 – 10 %

When adding butters to creams and lotions, it might be necessary to gently warm them until the texture can be incorporated into the final product. Using a hand blender, create a vortex with your cream or lotion and drizzle your melted butter to fully incorporate. For addition in soaps, the general rule of thumb is 1 tablespoon per pound. As with most raw materials, results may vary, so we strongly recommend small, lab scale batches prior to any commercial manufacturing.

Shelf Life: This butter should be stored in a cool dark place and usually have a shelf life of approximately 2 years if stored properly.

I got 2 lbs and it goes a long way. I add a very small amount to my creams to add extra conditioner/moisturizer. It doesn't smell too great but E.O.s easily cover it up.

I agree, it's simply fabulous. I've used it as a lip balm (+EOs) and applied directly on skin - nice smell, not as strong (because it's unrefined) and not that greasy. Great product at a great price (I got 1kg of it....winter's coming and my skin needs it).

Hi there! I cannot live without Shea Butter. I was introduced to it by a friend and i use it for ALL my kids and my skin and hair needs. Two of my kids suffer with very bad eczema inflammation, my baby on his whole body, such that both he and i would be crying- he from discomfort and itchiness and i from being unable to help him. I tried so many diff. products but non worked except Shea Butter. I am so Thankful to The One and Only True God for such a cure after i prayed so much for one. I also use it in making hair oils and body lotions, yup all homemade! I cant live without this.

Love love love this Shea Butter. I ordered the Shea Butter from both Ghana and Burkina Faso. The main difference in my opinion is the smell. The Burkina Faso still has the beautiful nutty scent but not as strong as the Ghana Shea Butter. I really love the nutty smell so I don't mind either but for those that might find the nutty smell offensive, you might want to try the Burkina Faso Shea Butter. The texture of this Shea is also so wonderful. Buttery smooth and creamy. I am so excited to have finally tried Shea Butter from Burkina Faso. For those that are hesitant to buy...don't be! I am extremely impressed with New Directions Shea Butters and will be ordering from them again and recommending them to all my friends. Wonderful product, great packaging and good prices. What more could you ask for?

This is fabulous butter. I use it every night after a hot epsom salt bath to deal with chronic pain issues.. I usually heat a large cup of water in the microwave (the only things I do with the micro: heat water and hot packs. Never food) and then set a smaller glass bowl with the butter in it while I soak. I then add lavender EO to the melted butter. And use all over my body. At the end I add a little patchouli for the face and then finish up a few things while I let it soak in completely before hitting the sheets. I haven't scratched my legs all winter since using this butter. And before it was so bad, I would scratch 'til I bled. No more of that; I love this stuff. Knowing this is fair traded and helping women in Africa with the expertise to produce this butter, helps me sleep better at night too. Way to go NDA!

Great quality. Like the fact that it's organic & fair trade as well. Ordered the 1.1 lbs and it came in a large white containter with screw on top (well protected). Will order this again in 3.3 oz & experiment with other butters in 3.3 oz as well (Macadamian & Avocado). Like the previous reviewers, I was surprised by the consistency (little grainy balls). Last year, I made a shea cream & melted half & left the remainder in its original state. Looking back, I should have melted the entire batch for the shea cream I made. Now, I have a somewhat grainy shea butter mix. Good thing that it dissolves into the skin. Lesson learned. 1.1 lbs goes a long way if you are using it for yourself. During winter season, my skin is extra-dry & itchy & because shea butter is heavier in consistency, it has helped me combat dry skin. Occasionally, I put on my hair as a moisture-sealant when hair is damp (for those if have kinky/kinky-curly hair).

Wow! The different consistency threw me for a minute. But after putting it to the test, I like this Shea Butter much better than any I have ever used - and I have sampled from many sources. I am thrilled about the immediate absorption and soothing qualities of this butter, and the positive energy I felt using it in my products. It blends well with the other oils I use in making my body balm, and seems to speed healing. Just wonderful!

I just recieved this by UPS today, and I am pleased with the product. At first I was taken aback at the consistency, as I figured it would be like the other shea butter I got. But this shea butter melts into the skin sooo easily, for a wonderful moisturizing effect. It will take a while for me to get used to the strong scent, but that's ok. I love that it is a natural product that it is good for me, and I appreciate that it has a natural scent without any perfumes or extra additives. Thank you NDA! :D
