Patchouli Essential Oil (Dark)
|

Botanical Name: Pogostemon cablin Plant Part: Leaves Extraction Method: Steam Origin: Indonesia Description: Patchouli is a very fragrant herb with soft oval leaves and square stems. It grows from 2 to 3 feet in height and provides an unusual odor that is nonetheless characteristic of patchouli when the leaves are rubbed. The color of the Patchouli oil is affected by the distillation machine. If distillation is done in Stainless steel then the color will be light, hence if done in Iron then the color will be darker. Color: Deep Golden Brown Common Uses: Patchouli is recognized by aromatherapists as being effective for combating nervous disorders, helping with dandruff, sores, acne, skin irritations and acne. The specific properties include use as an antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, anti-emetic, antimicrobal, antiphlogistic, antiseptic, antitoxic, antiviral, aphrodisiac, astringent, bactericidal, carminative, deodorant, digestive, diuretic, febrifuge, fungicidal, nerving, prophylactic, stimulating and tonic agent. In the perfumery industry, it is interesting to note that Patchouli improves with age, and that the aged product is what is preferred over freshly harvested. In aromatherapy, Patchouli is an excellent fixative that can help extend other, more expensive oils. Consistency: Medium to Thick Note: Base Strength of Aroma: Medium Blends well with: Patchouli blends well with sandalwood, bergamot, cedarwood, rose, sweet orange, cassia, myrrh, opopanax, and clary sage. Aromatic Scent: Patchouli has a warm, earthy aroma with fresh fruit - like tones. History: Before it became popular in Europe, Indian shawls and Indian ink were identified by the unique patchouli odor. Cautions: None Known

"You smell great!" I get that a lot, and I have a feeling this Patchouli Dark has little something to do with it! As wonderful as it smells, I use it for skin care, and I'm just as pleased with those results as I am with the aroma!

I can still remember the very first time I ever smelled patchouli. I was smitten! It continues to be one of my very favourite scents and I have worn it for years. The New Directions Patchouli Dark is wonderful, deep and rich. Perfect strangers have come up to me and asked, "What are you wearing? I love it!"
I would highly recommend this product to anyone who loves that great Summer of Love scent!

I have 2 bottles of this wonderful oil. One is a bottle from a year and a half ago, well aged in the back of a friend's pantry and the other is fresh, purchased in February of this year. This Patchouli is rich and smokey. Not quite the gorgeous deep chocolate note that you get from some Patchouli's, but much more murky and smokey. Quite lovely :) The aged patchouli has intensified and deepened both the characteristic patch smell and the smoke. Good, but could be better :)

I love the scent on its own but the beauty of Patchouli comes from its ability to enhance so many other essential oils and make the perfect blends. I am a cold process soaper among other things and Patchouli lends its staying power to blends through that process. I have yet to have a customer with eczema whom did not respond to the powers of patchouli in various combinations in creams and balms. Of course the fact that it is the only oil that I know of that improves with age versus disipating makes it my first choice oil. New Directions does have the best prices for this high quality oil. If I could rate it excellent + I would.

I can't say enough wonderful things about this product. I used it in my Christmas M&P soaps and everyone RAVED about them! It has such a delicious, earthy, yet sweet smell. It is a very complex aroma that will pleasantly surprise you every time you use it. I blended it with lavender with very good results. This is an extremely high quality oil. I wouldn't buy it anywhere else!

This is the most wonderful smelling patchouli I've ever had the pleasure of smelling! Deep with woody tones, and when combined with rosewood lavender or ylang ylang... ah! definitely not a cheap hippie smell!

This is such high quality oil, people who thought they did Not like Patchouli are absolutely loving this scent ! They must have been smelling low quality Patchouli oil, because it seems like everyone who thought they didn't like the smell of it are loving this New Directions Patchouli !! You should for sure try it, Get the small bottle, it lasts a long time. I love it with Orange Bitter!

My husband, however, finds it overwhealming when used in a diffuser. Great in lotions, though!

Patchouli Dark is a fabulous essential oil. I bought it because I heard it was great for the skin.....which it is. But it turns out ONE DROP blended with Orange is the most amazing personal perfume.. It's like a magnet...it draws people to you..Don't wear it if you feel like being alone :)
ND really has a winner with this high quality oil..

I am a soapmaker and I love keeping my products as mild, natural, and people friendly as possible. I have been a customer for over a year now and have never been disappointed with my ND shipments. The ND Patchouli is sooo nice...I buy them two at a time so I can let it "cure" a bit...like wine, patchouli oil gets better with age. I love the aluminum bottles, the quality, the price....everything about it! I am so glad that I stumbled across New Directions website when I began my business. I've ordered from other companies and have had higher prices paired with lower quality products. I know that whether I'm ordering yummy Patchouli and other essential oils or base oils for my soap, I will always get a high quality product from you guys! Thanks so much New Directions!

As a Patchuli lover I have used ND for years - never found any better quality or price. I use it daily after the shower mixed with Jojoba, Macademia & Linseed oils and neroli 3% (also from ND) as body moisturizer. I have heard comments like "I knew you were in the store because of your perfume - what is it? it smells soooo good." The other day a couple of women stopped me in a store in Guatemala (where I live part-time) and they wanted to know where I bought it. If you ship to Guatemala it would be great - have found some here at a horrible price and quality. Thank you New Directions for your great qualities and prices.

Not a nice scent from the bottle (in my opinion) but it adds an earthy smell to blends that reminds me of India. Even though it is not my personal choice the quality is great and the medicinal uses make it worth having in your kit.

I've used patchouli oils from other sources, and none of them compare to this one. It doesn't smell as nice straight out from the bottle as it does diluted in a mixture or in the bath. I put one drop in a 10ml roll-on bottle of (3% diluted in jojoba) neroli oil, and presto! Absolutely gorgeous personal perfume!

Looks like another Dark Patchouli fan comment! This is bar none the best patchouli I've ever smelled... and I've smelled some so-so and some baaaaaaaad patchoulis. This is sort of sweet with a VERY subtle hint of mint, but certainly still lives up to its name. Absolutely lovely and after hearing that it improves with age, I just can't wait!

This patchouli is truly wonderful...great full roundedness very beautiful base note. Patchouli is
believed to help prevent the spread of disease. The essential oil is for EXTERNAL USE ONLY and it should always be diluted with a suitable carrier oil before applying to the skin. It is non-toxic and non-irritant but with possible sensitization in some individuals. Use for acne, chapped & cracked skin, dermatitis, eczema, frigidity, fungal infections, incense, insect repellent, oily hair & skin, weeping eczema, wounds, wrinkles, athlete's foot, dandruff, hair care, impetigo, nervous exhaustion, open pores, sores, stress related conditions. (Also known as Patchouly, pachaput, Pogostemon patchouly.)
This one is one of the best around, and I think improves with age.
