Patchouli Essential Oil (Light)

Average Product Rating: 5 / 5 (Based on 12 Customer Reviews)

Botanical Name: Pogostemon Cablin
Plant Part: Leaves
Extraction Method: Steam Distilled
Origin: Indonesia
Description: Patchouli is a very fragrant herb with soft oval leaves and square stems. It grows from 2 to 3 feet in height and provides an unusual odor that is nonetheless characteristic of patchouli when the leaves are rubbed. The color of the patchouli oil is affected by the distillation machine. If distillation is done in a stainless steel vessel the color of the oil will be light, but if done in an iron vessel the color will be darker.
Color: Pale golden yellow viscous liquid.
Common Uses: Patchouli is recognized by aromatherapists as being effective for combating nervous disorders, helping with dandruff, sores, skin irritations and acne. The specific properties include use as an antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, anti-emetic, antimicrobal, antiphlogistic, antiseptic, antitoxic, antiviral, aphrodisiac, astringent, bactericidal, carminative, deodorant, digestive, diuretic, febrifuge, fungicidal, nerving, prophylactic, stimulating and tonic agent. In the perfumery industry, it is interesting to note that Patchouli improves with age, and that the aged product is what is preferred over freshly harvested. In aromatherapy, Patchouli is an excellent fixative that can help extend other, more expensive oils.
Consistency: Medium
Note: Base
Strength of Aroma: Medium
Blends well with: Sandalwood, Bergamot, Cedarwood, Rose, Orange, Cassia, Myrrh and Opoponax
Aromatic Scent: Patchouli has a warm, earthy aroma with fresh fruit - like tones.
History: For centuries, patchouli oil has been used in the East to scent clothes and linen. In China, Japan and Malaysia the oil was used to treat colds, headaches, nausea, diarrhea and abdominal pain. In the 1960s, patchouli became popular as an aphrodisiac.
Cautions: None Known.

This is exceptional and wonderfully intoxicating fragrance. Blends well with a range of other essential oils. Will buy again!

Interestingly, when I got this patchouli, I found it way too strong out of the bottle and regretted the purchase. Now, a year later, I LOVE the smell of it. I've read that patchouli's fragrance changes with time, so if' you're hesitating, get the sample version and even if you don't like it at first, leave it alone for a while and see how it smells in a few months. you may be surprised! Of note, I like using this one to lend a masculine note to an otherwise too sweet perfume, but since it's still strong, I dilute it first.

I love this light patchouli for my soap making. It doesn't discolor and the scent is great. I usually make a white Patchouli Rose soap that is a good seller! You can't find this anywhere else. Also try pairing it with orane or lavender.

Normally Patchouli gives me a headache but Patchouli Light doesn't. I love mixing it with other essential oils when I feel like I need more grounding or want to add an earthy yet not overpowering element to my overall scent.

Overall, patchouli is one of my favourite scents. Unfortunately, many people do not feel that way about patchouli. However, anytime I wear this patchouli, I get a lot of compliments, and seem to hear a lot of sniffing going on around me ! *lol* Like with most patchoulis, a little goes along way, and when I mix it with some South African lavender, I hear even more sniffing going on around me! I've always liked hearing, 'you smell great', but lately, I've been hearing that phrase a lot more. Thanks NDA!

You know it's quite strange. As a kid I didn't like this scent. But as a soaper I reluctantly bought this after seeing so many others ranting about this. To my suprise this is quite a plesent smell and a staple in a lot of other e/o blends. My customers love this one. Especially paired with a natural honey fragrance!

This Patchouli is lovely, but it does smell very young to me. I did accomodate for this and I ordered a large quantity that I can age myself while I use the rest of my beautiful, complex and old patchouli. I am benefitting from the 'green-ness' of this oil in that I can use much more of it in my skin care applications without that overwhelming, incredibly recognizable "patchouli smell".

I wasn't sure what to expect but this is definitely a nice blend of earth and citrus. Very sophisticated. Would be a wonderful base note or diluted in a carrier oil and worn alone. Definitly not for the floral crowd!

Thank my 12.5yr old daughter recently started to break out and she hates the smell of most my oils I use patchouli all the time on my face I have been using YL's brand and found this to be more economical. I like that I have a choice of light my daughter has been using this on her skin and it is clearing up.

Ahhhhh very nice! I also have the Patchouli Dark - this one is of course LIGHTER - a bit more fresh and less heady.
