Description: Peru Balsam Essential Oil is collected from wild trees along the 'Balsam Coast' of El Salvador, though many such trees are available in North America.
Color: Pale yellow to pale amber liquid.
Common Uses: Peru Balsam Essential Oil has been used by aromatherapists for bronchitis, chapped skin, colds, coughing, eczema, the flu, poor circulation, rashes, sensitive skin, and nervous and stress disorders. It is also believed to promote growth of epithelial cells.

Blends well with: Peru Balsam Essential Oil blends well with spicy, floral, Oriental and balsamic scented oils.
Aromatic Scent: Peru Balsam Essential Oil has a vanilla like scent.
History: Historically, this was an important ingredient in the anointing oils of the Christian faith. It was combined with olive oil and used for blessing by a bishop and used as a chrism.
Cautions: Peru Balsam Essential Oil may cause skin sensitization in some. Avoid use during pregnancy.

I was disappointed with Peru Balsam. First, I don't smell the vanilla notes mentioned above. I actually think it smells a little bitter. I much prefer the Copibaba Balsam, which is also significantly less expensive, warmer, and not bitter. It smells more like balsam, even though it's apparently note a true balsam. So if you're looking for a nice balsam, I recommend going for Copibaba Balsam instead.

Peru balsam is warm and woody! it's similar fragrance to benzoin, only less sweet and also less viscous so you can use the dispenser on the bottle. Great to add to your recipes when you need to ground your fragrance a little.
