Polawax

Description: Polawax is an effective emulsifier suited for the preparation of cosmetic oil / water creams and lotions. Pleasant light scent, yet does not add any odor to your formula. Can also increase thickness of a formula with a slightly higher percentage, eliminating the need for use of additional ingredients. Works excellent as the sole emulsifier, thickener and stabilizer in an emulsion.

Chemical/Physical Description:
• Polawax produces thick, solid emulsions without the addition of stiffening waxes, even at concentrations as low as 5%, although 10% may provide superior stability.
• Polawax is a preparation of higher fatty alcohols and represents an emulsifier of the self-bodying type.
• Polawax emulsions show excellent stability in both acid and base media and stable emulsions with a pH as low as 3 or as high as 13 can be produced.
• Polawax does not deteriorate on heating, experiencing only a slight alteration in color at temperatures up to 150-152°C for two hours.

Recommended Usage Levels:
2.0% - 10%
Storage:
Polawax should be stored in a tightly closed container in a cool, dry place. Storage above 90°F may result in coagulation.

I really like polawax, it makes a great emulsion, however, I find at 5% with 5% stearic, I sometimes get some separation with my water, but blend in a few pinches of guar gum and problem fixed.

Everybody should try it, it's the best emulsifier. Polawax is easy to use and create the perfect emulsion: Stable and smooth, with only a small amount. Also, New Directions have the lowest price that I have seen!
