INCI Name(s): Emulsifying Wax NF.
Description: Polawax is a preparation of higher fatty alcohols that produce thick emulsions without the addition of stiffening waxes. Recommended usage level is 2% - 10%.
Appearance: Creamy white solid beads with little to no odor.
Uses: Polawax is an effective emulsifier suited for the preparation of cosmetic oil / water emulsions. It can also be used to increase the thickness of a formulations, eliminating the need for use of additional ingredients. It works well as a sole emulsifier, thickener and stabilizer in an emulsion. Examples include creams, lotions, body butters, conditioners, face cleansers and baby products.
Compatibility: Polawax is compatible with anionic, cationic and nonionic systems. The emulsions show excellent stability in both acid and base media. Emulsions are stable with a pH as low as 3 or as high as 13. It does not deteriorate on heating, experiencing only a slight alteration in color at temperatures up to 150-152°C for two hours.

I am new to making my own lotions and creams and tried initially to use the stearic acid, beeswax, Borax, water and oil method. It was frustrating because I always had separation and a gooby mess. I purchased the Creamy Craft of Cosmetic Making from ND (under More Stores tab) and also purchased Polawax based on the reviews. I just made the lightest, fluffiest face cream that has an excellent texture and is doing wonders for everyone's skin (I have my recipe testers) thanks to Polawax. It is so easy to use and really creates a nice lotion. I added the Pseudocollagen from ND, and several essential oils that benefit different types of skin. We are all looking radiant!

This is the ONLY emulsifier you will ever need! It works beautifully in my lotions and creams. It makes the art of lotion and cream making so much easier. Please don't ever stop carrying it.

I really like polawax, it makes a great emulsion, however, I find at 5% with 5% stearic, I sometimes get some separation with my water, but blend in a few pinches of guar gum and problem fixed.

Everybody should try it, it's the best emulsifier. Polawax is easy to use and create the perfect emulsion: Stable and smooth, with only a small amount. Also, New Directions have the lowest price that I have seen!
