Pomouwood Essential Oil

Botanical Name: Bulnesia sarmienta

Origin: Vietnam
Description: Pomou is a timber tree that grows wild in Cambodia and Vietnam and is now a controlled species due to indiscriminate felling in the past. The Governments now allow an annual quota for the production of essential oil. Through these ethical means we at New Directions Aromatics continue to source our oils.
Color: yellowish brown
Common Uses: Due to its antimicrobial and bug repellant properties, the essential oil is popular in blends for manufacturing natural insect repellants. Its sweet aroma also enhances many popular blends.

Blends well with: Pomouwood essential oil blends well with most essential oils, but particularly well with other spice oils such as nutmeg and clove.
Aromatic Scent: Pomouwood has a sweet balsamic aroma with a hint of vanilla.
History: Pomouwood has been used since ancient times in Cambodia and Vietnam in the treatment of minor cuts & bruises due to their anti bacterial properties. Natives also burn this wood to ward off mosquitoes and insects.
Cautions: No known toxicity. Use well diluted. Avoid during pregnancy.

I love this oil! It is reminscent of peru balsam with its earthy rich vanilla like but a true woody favorite. Adds a wonderful balance and anchoring to almost any blend but probably best used with the spice oils. It is just a hair higher note than the peru balsam or copaiba balsam. A wonderful base.
