Rose Damask Absolute (Turkey)

Average Product Rating: 5 / 5 (Based on 3 Customer Reviews)
Botanical Name: Rosa damascene
Plant Part: Flowers
Extraction Method: Solvent Extraction
Origin: Turkey
Description: The rose is one of the worlds best known flowers - stunning and exotic in both visual appearance and aroma.
Color: Deep reddish-orange.
Common Uses: Rose Damask Absolute is a very common oil in the perfume and aromatic industry. Aromatherapists also credit it with being an exotic aphrodisiac, an emollient in skin care products, and a balancer of the spirit.
Consistency: Viscous
Note: Middle
Strength of Aroma: Strong
Blends well with: Rose Absolute generally blends well with all oils, though it works particularly well with Bergamot, Chamomile German, Chamomile Roman, Clary Sage, Geranium, Melissa, Rosewood, Sandalwood, and Ylang-ylang.
Aromatic Scent: Rose Damask Absolute has a very complex, sweet floral scent.
History: Approximately 4000 kilograms of petals are required to produce 1 kilogram of pure rose oil. There is evidence to show roses have existed for millions of years. It is generally believed that the Rosa damascena originated in the Neolithic period as hybridization of Rosa gallica and Rosa phoenicia - both of which have grown wild in Turkey for centuries. There is also evidence that rose oil was prepared as early as 400 B.C. by macerating roses in olive oil.
Cautions: Rose Damask Absolute is non-sensitizing, non-toxic and non-irritating. It is important to note that all absolutes are extremely concentrated by nature. They should not be evaluated in this state unless you are accustomed to the undiluted fragrance. For those trying Absolutes for the first time, we strongly recommend they be evaluated in dilution. Otherwise, the complexity of the fragrance - particularly the rare and exotic notes - becomes lost.

A friend of mine gave me an unlabeled rose oil that was bought in turkey. It had a bright clean smell and I expected that from this rose oil, but it was soft and a little musky. Don't get me wrong I like this one and use it constantly. I found that both rose oils together made a fabulous scent, each of them adding all of the little nuances to what a rose should smell like.

Rating:

A "musky" rose scent -- more of an "evening rose" than the bright, citrus-noted Rose Bulgarian. Excellent quality product, and if you're seeking a musky rose scent you'll be very pleased. If you're not sure what you're looking for in a rose oil, it's great to try the 1/6 oz size of a few different versions -- I recommend the Bulgarian, Turkish, Moldovian, & Iranian as good "jumping off points" to help you determine your "rose personality". And YAY! that ND offers such wonderful varieties in sample sizes -- truly makes Rose Absolute an affordable luxury for all! Thanks, ND!

To date, I'm still trying to find a rose oil that smells like the true rose. The one comes closest is the one carried by Jurlique (of Australia), but their rose oils are soooo expensive. I wish ND would find a rose grower that distills such oils. I think the one Jurlique carries smells more than "old roses". In any case, this Turkish rose oil is great; it smells sweet and intense.
