Botanical Name: Sandalum album
Origin: Australia
Description: This exotic powder comes from the Sandal Tree which is an evergreen tree that grows only in the southern areas of India, and somewhat in Australia. When the heartwood or the center of the trunk is harvested it is grounded into powder which can then be steam-distilled into an essential oil.
Common Uses: Our Sandalwood powder exudes a very subtle, exotic sandalwood scent that makes it the perfect addition to lotion, balms, shaving cream or soap for cleansing, calming and hydrating sensitive or aging skin.
When used externally, Sandalwood paste (made from mixing water with Sandalwood powder) has a calming, cooling effect on body and mind. It helps relieve fever and burns, insect bites, and can be used to heal skin diseases such as infectious sores, ulcers, acne and rashes. In general it relieves Pitta dosha and helps balance the body after overexposure to the sun. The scent of Sandalwood powder is said to clarify the mind and helps to awaken intelligence, and is often used as an aid for meditation. It calms the mind, soothes stress and nervous tension, and uplifts the mood. It is said to enliven courage, purpose, strength and happiness.
