This butter is extracted from the Shea nut & is grayish to ivory white in color with characteristic odor. It is creamy yellow in color with a mild nutty odor. It is solid at room temperature and rather hard in consistency.
Common Uses: Used predominantly for skin care, Shea Butter is hailed for its protecting and emollient properties. Rich in cinnamon acid, it also protects the skin from UV rays and therefore can be included in skin care products for the sun. It can also be used to make massage butters, body butters, lip balms, as a moisturizing agent in soaps and shaving creams, and as a treatment for minor skin wounds and irritations.
Recommended Usage:
• Lotions & Creams: 2 - 20 %
• Balms: 5 – 100 %
• Bar Soaps: 5 - 20 %
• Hair Conditioners: 1 – 10 %
When adding butters to creams and lotions, it might be necessary to gently warm them until the texture can be incorporated into the final product. Using a hand blender, create a vortex with your cream or lotion and drizzle your melted butter to fully incorporate. For addition in soaps, the general rule of thumb is 1 tablespoon per pound. As with most raw materials, results may vary, so we strongly recommend small, lab scale batches prior to any commercial manufacturing.
Shelf Life: This butter should be stored in a cool dark place and has a shelf-life of approximately 2 - 3 years when stored properly.

Love this butter. The scent is a bit strong at first. When I make a batch of butter I use half this butter and half the refined shea, mix in essential oils and it's beautiful. My customers are very happy with it.

It leaves your skin soft and silky. It also helps with problem dry skin by hydrating it, and locking in the moisture. My customers love how they can wash their hands, and yet they are still soft and silky from the lotion I create using New Direction products. I also use this body butter in my soap as well by melting it down and adding it to my Melt and Pour soap Base. When using the specially blended soap your skin is super soft. I love this shea butter! Great price, too, and the plastic jar is convenient packaging. The scent is nutty/oily... not particularly attractive, but it's not offensive, and it's very mild and does not stick around. The benefits of pure, unrefined shea butter more than make up for its scent! This is my favorite butter of all. It's great for dry spots, chapped lips, and it's the only thing that can heal up my skin after an eczema flare-up!

I had bought some unrefined, organically grown shea butter from another supplier, and loved it. Then I tried this one at N.D. in the 2.2lb. size, and love it even more. It feels a little softer/thinner yet more luxurious and creamy than the other brand, and less greasy. The natural bitter odor is not a problem because I can't smell it on my skin after a few minutes. I use it straight on my feet because the alkaline soil here in Arizona really dries the feet. I also sometimes use it straight on my face and hands. Mostly I use it melted via double boiler method and added to body lotions - either my own homemade ones or inexpensive commercial lotions; either way, it makes them wonderfully rich and luxurious.

This Shea Butter works great, but there is definitely a nutty scent that takes getting used to. Of course though it's wonderful that NDA offers both refined and unrefined, and the distinct smell of this one blends in pretty well if you add EO's to what you're making.

Shea butter is generally cheap but NDA seems to sell it for a slightly cheaper price than others. I also like how NDA packages their butters in a jar broken in pieces. Much easier to work with. I have a shea butter that came in a block wrapped in plastic and its so hard to use. Def will be buying soon.

I just received my shea and it's very nice on the skin. Shipping was very fast. I expected there to be a smell but it is extremely potent-like nut and campfire. However it seems to lessen after a little while on your skin. I'm going to try scenting a bit to see if it helps. I would suggest the refined shea butter if you don't like strong smells. That is what i will be getting next time. even though I wanted to avoid the refining. Thank you for the product

I love this Shea Butter...it makes my skin very soft...when I react to certain products and I get rashes from it... I find that applying Shea Butter on my face or the rash area...within a few days my face is rash free... I tried other products on the market...and it did not get rid of the rash...I had the rash on my face for a month an a half...my friend introduce me to Shea butter and I took it home...within a couples days my skin is smooth, healthier, younger, and rash free...ever since than I learn to appreciate organic products and learning how to make cream other cosmetic products... Beginning inventory is quite expensive...but I hope it's save me a lot of money in the long run...and hopefully one day I will start selling my products....

I find that applying Shea Butter on my face or the rash area...within a few days my face is rash free... I tried other products on the market...and it did not get rid of the rash...I had the rash on my face for a month an a half...my friend introduce me to Shea butter and I took it home...within a couples days my skin is smooth, healthier, younger, and rash free...ever since than I learn to appreciate organic products and learning how to make cream other cosmetic products... Beginning inventory is quite expensive...but I hope it's save me a lot of money in the long run...and hopefully one day I will start selling my products....

What can I say? I love it. I use it to mix with aloe vera butter and a fragrant oil for my son who has eczema. I really like the consistency of this shea butter, and have already placed it on my list of products to get next time. Did I mention it has worked wonders on his skin. Wow! I also did some more research while I was waiting for my order and found that you can put shea butter right on your face....so I tried it.....first I looked in the mirror and really studied my skin. Then I rubbed shea butter all over my face and neck (a little goes a long way) and when I awoke the next morning HALF of my laugh lines were GONE!!! What I love the most about this product is the color and the smell. When you first open up the jar, the smell is very strong. I made lip balm and I didn't put flavor in them. I got very good feedback for the smell and taste of the balms, they enjoyed it was a natural flavor & smell. I prevents and heals chaplips in winter also, that was the other very possitive feedbacks I got. When used in lotion, the scent becomes very light, it absorbs quickly and leaves the skin very soft. I tried using it alone on the skin, but I was left with a greasy mess, so I recomend making a lotion.

My customers tell me that they no longer need lotion on their skin, after a regular use. Shea butter is good for baby skin problems as cradle cap. Pregnant women can use it to avoid stretch marks. A regular use of shea butter rejuvenates skin and gives it a silky appearance and feeling. It contains a lot of vitamins. I always keep some at home.
