This butter is extracted from the Shea nut. After refinement, the butter has a very slight yellow color and almost no odor, but the applications remain the same. It is solid at room temperature and creamier than its 100% natural counterpart.
Common Uses: Used predominantly for skin care, Shea Butter is hailed for its protecting and emollient properties. Rich in cinnamon acid, it also protects the skin from UV rays and therefore can be included in skin care products for the sun. It can also be used to make massage butters, body butters, lip balms, as a moisturizing agent in soaps and shaving creams, and as a treatment for minor skin wounds and irritations.
Recommended Usage:
• Lotions & Creams: 2 - 20 %
• Balms: 5 – 100 %
• Bar Soaps: 5 - 20 %
• Hair Conditioners: 1 – 10 %
When adding butters to creams and lotions, it might be necessary to gently warm them until the texture can be incorporated into the final product. Using a hand blender, create a vortex with your cream or lotion and drizzle your melted butter to fully incorporate. For addition in soaps, the general rule of thumb is 1 tablespoon per pound. As with most raw materials, results may vary, so we strongly recommend small, lab scale batches prior to any commercial manufacturing.
Shelf Life: This butter should be stored in a cool dark place and has a shelf-life of approximately 2 - 3 years when stored properly.

At first i tried this butter in a body oil and i was kind of on the edge. However i re-worked the recipe and added more of it and i was really please with the updated results. I have dry skin and it is even drier during the winter months. To make things worse, my family has a home in the high desert of California where we spend the holidays. The climate really destroys my skin and it usually takes weeks to get it back. However, my skin is barely dry at all when i use the oil and shea butter mixture. It made a bi difference.

Keep it in the fridge to extend shelf life and it has been giving me the very same quality over and over again everytime I take out a piece and use it.

This was my second time to buy shea butter, and when I opened it a few months ago when I bought it, I was a little surprised that it wasn't as white or as soft as the stuff I had before, but I didn't think much of it. Now I'm thinking I was sent the wrong thing, since it looks much more like the picture of the natural butter and also has an odor. Not a real strong or unpleasant odor, but it does smell more than my last shea butter did. I just used it for the first time in a batch of lip balm, and since I can't smell it in the lip balm, I think it will be okay. I will have to see if I can cover up the scent when I use it in my whipped shea butter recipe, though.

This is THE BEST Shea Butter I have ever used! My customers can't get enough! It is so smooth and silky, no grit! It has VERY little natural odor. I can't seem to keep it in stock. I have several orders that need to be delivered by Saturday, and I ran out on Friday. I placed my order at the last minute. Victoria (NDA) was so amazingly helpful. I contacted NDA to get the status of my order, fearful that I would not get it in time. Victoria actually went to the packing and shipping department and checked for a status for me! This shea butter is amazing, and personally I prefer this refined version to the unrefined since there is hardly any of the "nutty" smell. I just made my first batch of whipped shea butter (70% shea butter, 30% coconut oil, blended for about 10 minutes) and it was so easy to make yet it looked and felt so luxurious, it almost looked like you could eat it. I can already tell this will be a favorite among friends and family!

This is a wonderful butter! I had first used L'Occitane shea butter and a small tin was $10 (for 0.26 oz). I purchased the smallest sized jar of this available for $2.74 (for 0.22 lbs!!). I will NEVER go back to L'Occitane, it boggles my mind how much of a rip-off that is. This butter is affordable, and quality. Just taking a piece as-is and rubbing it on my skin, I know that I will be a customer of New Directions Aromatics for years to come. Keep in mind this butter has a stronger scent than that of L'Occitane, and it is a different scent. I can say that I prefer the scent to this! The other one smelled kind of off to me (but that is my opinion, everyone is different). At the very least I suggest trying the sample size, you really can't go wrong with this quality and the price. :D

I've heard so many negatives about buying refined shea butter, and was worried about the quality, but I dislike the smell of regular shea, so I ordered it. ND did not let me down. Mixed with aloe, it's divine, and I can't tell the difference (quality wise) between unrefined and refined shea, this will always have a place in my cosmetic and body cream preparations!

Now that's what I'm talking about! If you don't like the smell of unrefined shea, don't hesitate to spend a bit more to get this stuff!

Back for a larger size since I had such success with my first purchase. This is creamy and sets very well in the product you make. I suggest taking the shea butter out of the container and storing it in zip lop bags and removing all the air from the bag. Then store it in a cool, place and it will last longer withoug going rancid. I learned this after years of purchasing shea butter from different companies. This is probably is good is you will find when it comes to shea butter and the price is right.

NDA’s Shea Butter has a lovely and creamy texture! Although I can’t tell the extent to which it has been deodorized (due to a cold) I can tell that this will make a wonderful whipped body butter! I had a hard time choosing all of the different butters that NDA offers, and I plan to purchase Cocoa Butter for my Body Balm next. Thank you NDA!

I recently purchased the Refined version of Shea and I am absolutely in love with it. It's so soft and supple and nourishes the skin on contact. Extremely easy to work with. I chose refined because I don't like strong scents and wasn't sure about Shea, so tried the cleaned version - and what can I say - I am a fan.

And when they do, I hope I am the first person that they call so I cn order from them again. I have always liked this company as well as their customer service, however this is one product that I am HIGHLY disappointed in!!!

Love this product! The smooth, creamy texture and subtle scent makes it the perfect butter for creamy concoctions. Other scents can be added and will not be overpowered as they would normally be when unrefined shea butter is used. And the price! Can’t go wrong there! I got a kilo for the same price I usually shell out to get 100g of shea butter at department stores. Great value!

This is more than a bargain! I used to pay $12 for 50g (1.75 Oz) Can't go wrong here! For an extra $1.12 I got 1 Kg WOW and I can't wait to make my own body lotion, BTW. I did not find it was smelly at all. it really says what it say 'deodorized'

This is a great refined shea butter. It is wonderful when you need a snow white, unscented butter. I use it for so many different things. Not grainy like unrefined shea butter.

This is a fantastic price for a really great product. Having used commercially available lotions and creams containing this butter, I was anxious to see what the pure product was like. I found the butter to be a bit harder than I expected, and not quickly absorbed into the skin. This is not to say it is a bad product in any way; rather, it benefits from being combined with other oils, butters and/or glycerine. I've found that combining it with a little Camellia Oil or Sweet Almond Butter with glycerine makes a nice (albeit heavy) moisturizer for winter, as well as one that causes no skin irritation. It has a very, very slight fatty smell to it, but nothing at all unpleasant (I'm pretty sensitive about the fragrance of things) and nothing that would interfere at all with the addition of any EO or artificial fragrance. All in all a great product; I only give it four stars instead of five because for my own personal uses, it isn't suitable as a stand alone product. That may not be the case for you, however.

I first ordered shea ( natural ) from another company and the smell was so awfull I trew it away. But since I liked the effects, I wanted to give it another try, with you deodorized version. It was a great move ! Althought it still smells a little bit ( like it's supposed to ! ), I like it a lot. Mixed with other butters it is fine. I guess I will get used to the smell eventually. Thank you for this good product, and for the affordable prices.

Your refined shea butter is smooth and wonderful to work with. Using your vanilla essential oil, I whipped the butter and e/o together and the result is soothing, smooth, and a delight for the nose. I highly recommend both the shea and the vanilla essential oil.
