Star Anise Organic Essential Oil
Average Product Rating: 5 / 5 (Based on 1 Customer Review)
Certified Organics: The National Organic Program develops, implements, and administers national production, handling, and labeling standards for organic agricultural products.
Botanical Name: : Illicum Verum Hook
Plant Part: Seeds
Extraction Method: Steam Distilled
Description: Star anise or star aniseed is a small to medium plant belonging to the Magnolia family, native to China & Vietnam, although today itís grown almost exclusively in Southwest China and Japan. The fruit is small, only about an inch and quarter tall (3 cm.) and has a star shape with about 5 to 10 point. The fruit is picked unripe, and sun dried to a brown color before it is used.
Color: Colorless to pale yellow
Common Uses: It is used to combat colic, rheumatism, flatulence and nausea. It also has carminative, stomachic, stimulant and diuretic properties. The whole fruit is also used a breath freshener together with mandarin.
Important Note: This essential oil may solidify, and if so, must be heated to be brought back to a liquid state. This attests to the purity of the oil you have purchased.
Strength of Aroma: Strong
Aromatic Scent: Star Anise has a licorice-like aroma similar to aniseed, but its aroma is stronger.
History: Star Anise is often chewed in small quantities after each meal to promote digestion and sweeten the breath. The Japanese plant the tree in their temples and on tombs; and use the pounded bark as incense. Homeopaths can prepare tinctures from the seeds.
Cautions: Star Anise is generally non-toxic and non-irritating (unlike Illicium anisatum the Japanese variety that is long considered toxic). Do not use during pregnancy, while breastfeeding, or on infants and small children.

I bought this Anise EO for use in soap making and I love it! It is a really beautiful smelling oil. If you like the smell of licorice, then this EO is perfect (it smells just like black licorice), and a little goes a long way, too. I used it to make an anise-banana, oatmeal and cream soap, and it is wonderful (it's one of my favourite soaps, now)! Just an FYI - it may cause some discoloration in CP or CPOP soaping, causing it to turn brown (or it could have been the fresh banana that I used in the soap :), but the scent is amazingly lovely. I love that it's organic, am very happy with the purchase, and would order this again.
