Tansy Blue Essential Oil

tansyblue.jpgBotanical Name: Tanacetum annuum
Plant Part: Leaves and Flowers
Extraction Method: Steam
Origin: Turkey
Description: Tanacetum annuum produces leaves and flowers, from which the Blue essential oil Tansy Blue is extracted through high pressure, low heat steam extraction.
Color: Blue
Common Uses: Blue Tansy – like all of the blue essential oils containing the active azulene – is best known for it’s skin care properties as an anti-inflammatory. It has also been credited by aromatherapists as being an antihistamine and antispasmodic. It is believed to induce relaxation, reduce nervous tension and stress, and be beneficial for allergies. It does the latter by being a stimulant for the thymus gland.
Consistency: Viscous
Note: Middle
Strength of Aroma: Medium
Blends well with: Most essential oils, though particularly Ravensara. When blending, special attention should be given to color issues that may arise (for example – discoloration if used in a white cream or lotion).
Aromatic Scent: Tansy Blue has a surprisingly sweet scent making it perfect for applications in skin care products and skin therapies.
History: Tansy blue is sometimes mistakenly referred to as Moroccan Chamomile, though Moroccan Chamomile is actually an entirely different species.
Cautions: Tansy Blue is generally non-irritating and non-toxic. Nonetheless, the preferred mode of use is external. It seems to display its strongest effects if its maximum concentration in a blend does not exceed 5%.

What a strange and pleasing scent. While sweet and almost floral it has this invigorating essence to it as well I can feel it stimulating my nasal passages with just a slight sniff from the bottle! Cant wait to try it out on skin conditions and colds not to mention allergies! Oh and of course this will be tried in perfume making too!

This oil is excellent for coping with respiratory allergies. I combine it with green myrtle and use it as a chest and backrub for the kids. Very mild, but amazingly effective. Found out that the blend works with colds too. I put it in hand balms for eczema. Works miracles in that application as well. Great essential oil!

Very sweet, almost intoxicating, and very useful in skin preparations. Love this wonderfully blue essential oil!
