Tea Tree Essential Oil (AAA Australian)

Average Product Rating: 5 / 5 (Based on 53 Customer Reviews)

Botanical Name: Melaleuca alternifolia
Plant Part: Leaves
Extraction Method: Steam Distilled
Origin: Australia
Description: The Tea Tree is a small tree or shrub with needle-like leaves. It is also domestically referred to as Ti-tree. It can grow up to 7 meters (20 feet) in height and thrives in marshy areas, though it is now cultivated in plantations. The Tea Tree is very robust; it is ready for cutting only two years after its’ previous harvest.
Color: Colorless to pale yellow clear liquid.
Common Uses: Tea Tree Essential Oil is best known as a very powerful immune stimulant. It can help to fight all three categories of infectious organisms (bacteria, fungi, and viruses), and there is evidence that Tea Tree Oil massages prior to an operation may help to fortify the body and reduce post-operative shock. Used in vapor therapy, Tea Tree Oil can help with colds, measles, sinusitis and viral infections. For skin and hair, Tea Tree has been used to combat acne, oily skin, head lice and dandruff. As essential oils have become more accepted by the public, the use of Tea Tree has increased significantly. This can be readily evidenced by the commercial products now using Tea Tree Essential Oil.
Consistency: Thin
Note: Middle
Strength of Aroma: Medium
Blends well with: Cinnamon Bark, Clary Sage, Clove Bud, Geranium, Lavender, Lemon, Myrrh, Nutmeg, Rosewood, Rosemary and Thyme.
Aromatic Scent: Tee Tree Essential Oil has a fresh, antiseptic and medicinal scent. It also has characteristic mint and spice back-notes.
History: The aboriginal people of Australia have long used Tea tree oil; similarly, Tea tree has a long history of use within the field of aromatherapy. In World War Two, the producers and the cutters of Tea Tree were exempt from military service until enough essential oil had been accumulated. The oil was a highly valued product as it was issued to each soldier and sailor as part of their kit in order to treat tropical infections and infected wounds.
Cautions: Tea Tree Essential Oil may cause dermal sensitization in some people. Do not take internally.

Tea tree oil is my go-to cure-all and I always have a tiny sample-size bottle in my purse and my hubby carries it in his emergency kit. It has worked on stubborn dandruff, athletes foot, thrush, nail fungus, boils, acne, gargle for throat infections, and soothed bug bites. Used as an antiseptic on minor cuts and scrapes and as a general "biting insect" repellant. Leaves a cooling sensation on skin if applied undiluted. Scent is strong, medicinal but clean. Mixes well with lavender and/or peppermint. If you can only buy one essential oil to help fix your skin, buy this one.

this oil is AMAZING...i use it in a blend with lavender, grapefruit, rosemary, and orange essential oil with witch hazel and vodka (yes, vodka) as a toner. it very effectively removes excess residue after cleansing and appears to shink pores after swiping across with a cotton pad. i also steam my face with a couple drops of tea tree and use as a spot treatment with great results... thank you NDA for these great oils at affordable prices!!!

A great EO for a great price. I've used it in facial masks, OCM mixes, and after sun lotion. I've found I really like it with some French lavender and rosemary, for both the scent and the healing benefits.

Strong robust tea tree. What can I say? I love what tea tree does, hate the smell. The lemon tea tree smells wonderful, but I don't know if it has as many medicinal qualities. True to form.

I have used both ND's Australian and Chinese Tea Tree oil's and I have no complaints, but for the price, quantity and quality, the Chinese is as good if not better, which was a surprise to me, and the Chinese version has a slightly better smell, not quite as strong in smell, but just as effective in every other way. So if you've been using this great oil, and hesitant to try the Chinese version, go for it!

This should be in everyone's medicine cabinet! I use it for everything from cuts and scrapes to sinus relief. A few drops of this and lavender mixed with Jojoba base makes an amazing treatment for foot fungus. My skin absolutely loves the stuff and feels amazing after a rubdown with tea tree and grapeseed oil. Personally, I love the smell, but I understand those that are not a fan. It does have a medicine-mint smell to it. However, the excellent price and quality of the Australian variety offered here warrant you to give it a shot. Thanks for having the best prices ND!

Clean, fresh, nearly medicinal scent. Yet pleasant. I made a scalp treatment with shea butter, olive oil and the tea tree, very nice. Seems to gather strength after a little 'cure' time. Tingly and effective. Having fun mixing it with other EO's.

Wow! This stuff is amazing. I have helped quite a few people that had really disgusting pimples that just didn't want to heal. These were huge crater like pimples that were swollen and painful. First, they pierced the pimple and then I dabbed on some T.T oil. It took everything out.It even took out the clear liquid in the pimple. The next day the pimple is dry and the swelling is 97% gone.

As an aromatherapist and reflexologist I have used this oil on the usual but recently started adding a few drops along with orange EO to floor cleaner and the whole house smells great; add same to murphy's soap for cleaning wood cabinets, doors, etc. knowing it's better than using harsh chemicals.

Tea Tree oil is great as a natural insect repellent. We use when we go outside or out on the lake. All bugs stay away from us. It is also wonderful to use for bacterial and odor problems--use a few drops on a WET washcloth and clean offensive genital smells. It works better than soap and water to eliminate the smell. It leaves a tingly fresh feel also after using. I carry it during the day in my purse with a washcloth and use it whenever I need to freshen up.

I am surprised I have not rated this oil yet as it is my absolute favorite! Tea Tree is a must have for anyone starting out with aromatherapy! I use it in my first aid kit in place of peroxide or alcohol as it has great astringent qualities. I also use it in my cleaning product for kitchen and bath. This is one of the most versatile products from skin health to home cleansing! Again ND has the best you can buy at the best price!

Besides Lavender, Tea Tree is probably the most useful oil in all of the essential oils. It is a definite MUST HAVE for any aromatherapist. And especially for one just starting out. The properties are many and this oil does not have to be diluted everytime it is used as most E.O.s are. It can be used neat. But still should be diluted as it could cause sensitization in some. It is a most versatile Australian oil and is claimed by some to be a medicine chest in a bottle. It is non-toxic and non-irritant but with possible sensitization in some individuals. Use for abrasions, abscesses, acne, antiseptic, athlete's foot, blisters, burns, cold sores, cuts, head lice, insect bites, laundry antiseptic, nappy rash, scalds, septic wounds, thrush, etc. (Also known as Melasol, Narrow-Leaved Paperbark Tea Tree, Ti-Tree, Ti-Trol.)
