Description: Thuja is an evergreen in the cypress family, native to eastern North America. The tree is also grown in Europe as an ornamental plant. The parts used in herbal remedies are the branches and the tiny, flat, scale-like leaves, which contain the oil thujone.
Color: Dark Greenish Brown Resin
Common Uses: Because of its aromatic properties Thuja absolute can be used to make perfumes, toiletries, cosmetics, soaps and detergents. It is also considered to be an effective insect repellent.

Aromatic Description: Thuja absolute has a strong sharp woody camphoraceous scent.
** It is important to note that all absolutes are extremely concentrated by nature. They should not be evaluated in this state unless you are accustomed to the undiluted fragrance. For those trying Absolutes for the first time, we strongly recommend they be evaluated in dilution. Otherwise, the complexity of the fragrance - particularly the rare and exotic notes - become lost.
History: Also called white Cedar, Thuja is a softwood belonging to the coniferous family. The ancient Sumerians used this oil as a basis for paint. For hundreds of years it has also been used as an insect repellent.
Cautions: Taken in excess, this essential can produce unpleasant results; it was officially listed as an abortifacient (a drug or agent causing abortion) and convulsant in overdose. Do not use during pregnancy. Do not use without medical supervision.
