Description: Valerian is a tall perennial herb which grows wild in North America, Europe, and Asia. Its underground stems and roots are harvested and dried to make healing preparations. Valerian has been used as a medicinal herb since at least the time of ancient Greece and Rome. It was prescribed as a remedy for insomnia.
Common Uses: Valerian is a nerve and muscle relaxant, and can be used for tension, anxiety, insomnia and emotional stress. It is said to have anti-inflammatory properties and can be used in tinctures and topical applications.
