Average Product Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Based on 12 Customer Reviews)

Botanical Name: Vanilla planifolia

Plant Part: Flower

Extraction Method: Solvent Extraction

Description: Vanilla is a perennial herbaceous climbing vine that can grow up to 25 meters (82 feet) high and takes up to 18 months to produce its first flowers. The small yellow-green orchid blooms for only a few hours before wilting unless it is naturally pollinated by insects - a rare occurrence - or hand- pollinated by workers.

Color: Dark brown to black brown paste.

Common Uses: Vanilla Absolute is popular for its aphrodisiac properties. It is a comforting, calming oil that promotes love and peace.

Consistency: Thick and viscous, solid at room temperature. Bottle should be placed in a hot water bath in order for absolute to liquefy.

Note: Middle

Strength of Aroma: Medium

Blends well with: Bergamot, Grapefruit, Lemon, Mandarin, Orange, Sandalwood, Tangerine, and Ylang-ylang.

Aromatic Scent: Vanilla Absolute is one of the most well known scents. The Absolute oil has a rich, sweet, vanilla odor.

History: The Totonacs of Veracruz, Mexico are credited as its first cultivators of vanilla bean. In the 1400's The Aztecs showed the Spaniards how vanilla could sweeten their chocolate and perfume their cigars, and the long, dark vanilla beans became part of the Spanish empire's rich colonial trade as early as the middle of the sixteenth century.

Cautions: It is important to note that all absolutes are extremely concentrated by nature. They should not be evaluated in this state unless you are accustomed to the undiluted fragrance. For those trying Absolutes for the first time, we strongly recommend they be evaluated in dilution. Otherwise, the complexity of the fragrance - particularly the rare and exotic notes - becomes lost.

I just got this oil and used it last night in a bath oil. Like, Marie I found it to be different from the vanilla extract found in stores. I honestly couldn't smell it in the mixture. I was kind of disappointed because thats why i bought it in the first place. The Vanilla extract tends to get lost in mixtures as well and i wanted a stronger punch. I am going to try it again and maybe add the eo to the extract to enhance it.

I just received my order that included the vanilla 3%. It does smell like the cooking vanilla, but a bit "softer" if you will. Placed a drop on my wrist with a drop of bergamot and just found my "new" favorite aroma. Your packaging is superb, your products are wonderful and your service is exquisite!!! Thanks for rushing this out before the holidays.

This stuff is excellent. The dilution is strong enough to impart its character and the price is right -- I often use it for about 50% of the volume in blends and basically add a vanilla scent and a jojoba carrier oil at once, so it works great for natural perfumery. I'm going to buy a pure oleoresin or absolute for soaps & lotions, but for fragrance blends the dilution is just right. It's one of the key ingredients in one of my favorite blends, and a nice mellowing influence in a few others.

Never before have I smelled a natural Vanilla that actually smells like Vanilla. This is my favorite scent of all my collection of NDAs products which really says a lot. I started with just the half ounce and soaked myself in it so much it was necessary to upgrade. I'm ordering the 16 oz bottles now, and making perfumes with it for all my friends and family! Great and just in time for christmas!

I am extremely happy with this vanilla! Unlike the cheaper essences, it does not foam up tub truffles. My clients go crazy for it as a perfume! I sell it all by itself as a perfume now, or mix it with citrus, or spicy essential oils for a brilliant oil perfume!

Yummy vanilla scent, even at just 3% dilution. A lot of my friends don't like strong vanilla scents (other than in their food), so this is a nice way to a softer touch of vanilla.

Whenever I first sniff the dilution from the bottle, I smell a sweet vanilla scent BUT with a nutty base. When I apply the oil on to my skin, all I smell are toasted nuts! I'm serious. Don't buy this expecting the usual sythethic vanilla scent one is familiar with from the lotions and lip glosses sold in drugstores. However, DO try this because the vanilla dilution does make for an interesting and nutty experience.

We loved this vanilla eo... especially after smelling so many other companies' versions. We were also happy to find vanilla in an oil-soluble form (perfect for balms and butters!), since so many people sell water-soluble oleoresins and make them sound like an essential oil. Anyway, this vanilla is very buttery and absolutely delicious... it smells like a vanilla pastry, NOT like a vanilla fragrance oil (which is usually powdery and a bit floral, for perfumery purposes). This would be wonderful mixed with citrus eo's, coffee eo's, cocoa butter, you name it. Definite possibilities. NDA does it again!

I didn't find that this oil actually smelled like any vanilla I've ever smelled from the actual bean. The smell, even at 3% was over-powering and not delicious. Not a product I would buy again.

New Directions Aromatics Response:

All of our 3 % Dilutions are simply the pure Essential Oil / Absolute in a base of premium Jojoba oil. In this case, we are using our 10 Fold Pure Vanilla Essential Oil. It has been "folded", resulting in a more concentrated final product as desired by most manufacturers and Aromatherapists.
