Description: Vanilla is a perennial herbaceous climbing vine that can grow up to 25 meters (82 feet) high and takes up to 18 months to produce its first flowers. The small yellow-green orchid blooms for only a few hours before wilting unless it is naturally pollinated by insects - a rare occurrence - or hand- pollinated by workers.

Color: Dark brown to black brown paste.

Common Uses: Vanilla Absolute is popular for its aphrodisiac properties. It is a comforting, calming oil that promotes love and peace.

Consistency: Thick and viscous, solid at room temperature. Bottle should be placed in a hot water bath in order for absolute to liquefy.

Blends well with: Bergamot, Grapefruit, Lemon, Mandarin, Orange, Sandalwood, Tangerine, and Ylang-ylang.

Aromatic Scent: Vanilla Absolute is one of the most well known scents. The Absolute oil has a rich, sweet, vanilla odor.

History: The Totonacs of Veracruz, Mexico are credited as its first cultivators of vanilla bean. In the 1400's The Aztecs showed the Spaniards how vanilla could sweeten their chocolate and perfume their cigars, and the long, dark vanilla beans became part of the Spanish empire's rich colonial trade as early as the middle of the sixteenth century.

Cautions: It is important to note that all absolutes are extremely concentrated by nature. They should not be evaluated in this state unless you are accustomed to the undiluted fragrance. For those trying Absolutes for the first time, we strongly recommend they be evaluated in dilution. Otherwise, the complexity of the fragrance - particularly the rare and exotic notes - becomes lost. Not suitable for candles.

This vanilla is my very favorite in comparison to a huge variety that I've smelled (including the several that are also available on this site, many of which I have tried). It's strong, so you don't need too much of it, but it also blends well with practically everything, so I'd recommend getting more if you're hesitating at all. The other nice thing is that it is soluble in oil, unlike the vanilla essential oils on this website, so keep that in mind when ordering.

When I think of vanilla, this is it. I made some perfume with it and the vanilla is the perfect background smell and it stays strong if not becomes the strongest with time. My perfume is 2-3 weeks old and the vanilla at first was faint but now it has a presence. This is nice, sweet flower vanilla smell. I love it!.

Absolutely heavenly! A little goes a LONG way. If you are looking for a true perfumer's vanilla, this is the one! So warm and sweet, reminds me of an old perfume that I have been looking to replace for years! Next time I will definitely get a bigger size.

An incredible value, this vanilla absolute is indistinguishable from much more expensive Madagascar absolutes I've procured from other suppliers. It is a crystallized semisolid at room temperature, so you need to scoop it out or heat the bottle gently in a cup of just-boiled water. Soluble in alcohol and oil; makes wonderful contribution to amber bases. Very rich and intense.

I wanted a true vanilla smell and I finally got it. Fantastic! I advice everyone to buy only vanilla absolute and dilute it with jojoba oil. To me vanilla 10-fold does not have a true vaniila smell. Splurge a little and get the absolute (5ml) and dilute it in jojoba oil. Also New Directions has the best price. Im super happy!
