I was a little overwhelmed when I opened this bottle- it was very strong and extract smelling. But when used in soaps is has a very nice vanilla scent.

How hard it is to find a quality Vanilla Essential oil that doesn't cost a fortune. Well, here it is! New Directions Aromatics Vanilla Essential oil is terrific and the price is right. I've bought it three times and have never been disappointed. It's rich, great vanilla aroma and affordable.

I used this to make vanilla scented sugar scrubs and it worked beautifully. I also mixed a bit of vanilla with a bit of orange to make a sort of "creamsicle" scent and it was a hit!

WOW! The strongest smelling EO in my entire order! I wonder what Vanilla 20 Fold would smell like? This is the truest scent of Vanilla I have ever come across - it is not over sickly sweet and also carries a depth that I can't quite put my finger on... but it is absolutely lovely! Since you will not need too much of this EO to scent your products with, which makes the price even more of a bargain!

Smells great, just as vanilla should. It also gives soaps and butters a "french vanilla" tan color. Does take more EO to scent then some of the other EO's I have purchased, but it is only the 10 fold, and for the price, it is certainly worth it.

It doesn't get much better than this! Like smelling a fresh vanilla bean. Blends well with other eo's and yummy in lip balms, not overly sweet... just right.

If you are using this to make cold process soap, please don't. It will not turn out. I made a large batch of soap which I divided in half. In half I put the vanilla 10 fold and in the other half orange and clove essential oil. The half with the vanilla seized up and became hard instantly. The half with orange and clove essential oil came out nicely. So I know it wasn't my soap. Also make sure you try the products from NDA right away or you maybe stuck with a product you don't like.

I got hooked on EOs when I decided to make all natural cleaning products for the house cleaning business I started. Then I started buying the cosmetic bases for personal use so I could get that much more out of the oils. So, I wasn't too eager to spend this much more for something I really don't need. I'm so glad I did. Vanilla can make a flat combinations of oil just round out so richly. If it's getting too botanical smelling or too masculine it adds the perfect amount of sweet. I have found that no matter what I'm mixing Lavender or Vanilla always fills in what's missing.

I was afraid to try this essential oil because of a review that said it made lotions smell like alchohol, but I am glad I tried it. It smells wonderful in my butter recipe and gave a great color. Most important is the price, much more affordable than absolutes. I am very happy with this vanilla, I will now buy a big bottle.

I used this oil abundently in CP soap and my results were good. The soaps are smooth and creamy (no problems with separation at all) and the scent really sings now that the bars are in the curing stage. This oil will turn your products dark brown...which is okay, I like natural colorants.

Lovely strong vanilla scent. I found it richer and deeper than regular old vanilla extract (but they both make me hungry for cookies!).

yes, straight smell from the bottle, I was a bit hesitant about the 'store brand' smell but am finding that it can be a warm note to mixes and is of a wonderful quality
This will be a main note in my upcoming soap blend for fall and am looking forward to seeing how it reacts with some high grade rose oil my sister brought back from Bulgaria this summer

I will jump on the "little goes a long way" bandwagon too! In my diffuser, most of my other oils take about five to six drops to get a good solid scent to spread around. This stuff? Two, MAYBE three drops and you are good to go! To be honest, I wasn't really sure about it when I first smelled it in the bottle...it smelled just like the extract you cook with and I thought it might be too much. But once I put it in my diffuser, it smelled terrific. Great stuff!

This vanilla oil is amazing! I agree with the others when they say a little goes a long way... It is strong and beautiful... Quite frankly, it smells so good every time I use it I really want to taste it! (However, that is not a good idea.) This a a great price for a great oil... I recommend it to all vanilla lovers :)

Smells fantastic - exactly like it should. One note of caution: don't judge the scent holding the bottle right under your nose, or you'll get the alcoholic smell mentioned by another reviewer. Out of the bottle, this is just right.

Oh, WOW!!!
Like the majority of the population, I find vanilla to be a pleasant, comforting smell, but it's never been one of my desert-island-five scents. Until now, that is. This vanilla completely knocked my socks off. I went nuts and made enough products to use the entire bottle the first day after receiving it and my only regret is that I didn't purchase a bigger one. Fortunately, there are a few drops stuck in the bottom of the bottle, which should keep me company until my next shipment arrives.
Bravo, New Directions! Yet another product that surpasses all my expectations!

This vanilla is wonderful. Not overly sweet like some vanillas I've smelled. The scent right from the bottle has a slight alcohol aroma, but once you put it on, it completely dissipates. The only complaint is that I tried to mix it with vetiver and it took A LOT of vanilla to blend well with the 3 drops of vetiver I used. But, I was able to get the scent I wanted.

I'm disappointed that my experience did not compare with others here. It had trouble in CP soap, which in a stable recipe re-liquefied in the mold long after trace (in fact, I used it in half a batch and another EO in the other, and the other half of the batch behaved beautifully). The scent was kind of like a dirty, more alcoholic, Kahlua, and I can't for the life of me tell the difference between the product and the more upscale (but still significantly cheaper) grocery store Madagascar vanilla extracts. The CP soap I used it in still has a couple of weeks left to cure, and I will be delighted to prove myself wrong if curing brings out a vanilla scent. It gives lotion an alcoholic scent, and changed the consistency, but I can detect Vanilla in it. Overall, I'm confused since so many reviewers reported a delightful vanilla scent that held its own in CP soap, and to be honest, this was not my experience at all. I've been very happy with other oils bought from New Directions.
New Directions Aromatics Response:
Our Vanilla Essential Oil is produced from the Oleoresin. We use the finest quality Bourbon type beans and then concentrate it 10 fold.
Unfortunately, Vanilla Essential Oil is one of the more difficult essential oils to use in manufacturing. Producers of soap also tend to use different ratios of ingredients, and quite often different ingredients all-together. In situations where customers are experiencing different results than others, we recommend they ask other consumers on our forum. Quite often small changes can produce the desired results.

Oh My Goodness! I am so very happy to finally have Vanilla EO in my collection!
My daughter would hardly give it back to me!
When I opened it with my husband my first words were - "I want to take this in a room all by myself and never come out"
When my daughter later came to smell it she said "I 'm going to my room now" clutching this EO to her chest
LOL NO ONE wants to share this EO!
I will not be shocked if it disappers from my inventory!
I am already missing the last drop and have not used even one drop yet!

This vanilla is rich and beautiful. It is extremely aromatic and a "true" vanilla aroma. This is a great price-- no excuses in using REAL vanilla in your aromatherapy products-instead of yucky fragrance oil! I am sure it will get much more intense and better with age.

Lovely scent, but not a true EO (perhaps a tincture or extract?) as it separates from EOs and carrier oils.
New Directions Aromatics Response:
Our Vanilla Essential Oil is produced from the Oleoresin. We use the finest quality Bourbon type beans and then concentrate it 10 fold.
The majority of the food grade solvent used in the process is removed, but may nonetheless result in solubility / mixing issues. This is common with Vanilla, and we recommend small, lab scale batches for evaluation purposes.

Not a bad price considering the others I've used. And the quality is much higher too. This is one powerful vanilla! A tiny bit goes a long way. Adds such an exotic warmth to any blend. For a super sensuous blend that will make your lover crazy, add this to sandalwood, jasmine and neroli with a hint of cinnamon for a luscious treat! Wonderful essential oil, a must have for any perfumer.
