Vanilla Essential Oil -10 Fold
|

Botanical Name: Vanilla planifolia Plant Part: Fruit Extraction Method: Food Grade Solvent Origin: India Description: Vanilla is a perennial herbaceous climbing vine that can grow up to 25 meters (82 feet) high and that is native to Central America and Mexico. In cultivation the deep trumpet-shaped flowers of the Vanilla must be hand-pollinated; while in Mexico the native humming bird does the work. The green capsules or fruit are picked, cured, and the immature Vanilla pod or bean is fermented and dried to turn it into a fragrant brown vanilla bean. Our variety is a ten-fold bourbon; this refers to the concentration of the essential oil. Ten fold essential oils are considered to be superior to the extracts commonly sold. Color: Orange-Brown Common Uses: Vanilla essential oil is considered a premiere sensual aphrodisiac and one of the most popular flavors/aromas. Comforting and relaxing. It is also an ingredient in Oriental type perfumes. Consistency: Medium Note: Middle-Top Strength of Aroma: Medium to Strong Blends well with: Bergamot, Grapefruit, Lemon, Mandarin, Orange, Sandalwood, Tangerine, and Vetiver. Aromatic Scent: Vanilla is one of the most well known scents. The essential oil has a rich, sweet, vanilla odor. History: After civil wars and reduced availability, the price of Vanilla essential oil has risen to the point of most absolutes. Nonetheless, the true oil is recognized as being well worth the price. Cautions: No known toxicity Avoid high concentration in pregnancy. Avoid very high concentrations in skin care.
It is recommended that this essential oil be stored in dark amber, blue or green glass bottles since it has been found to dissolve aluminum bottles.

yes, straight smell from the bottle, I was a bit hesitant about the 'store brand' smell but am finding that it can be a warm note to mixes and is of a wonderful quality
This will be a main note in my upcoming soap blend for fall and am looking forward to seeing how it reacts with some high grade rose oil my sister brought back from Bulgaria this summer

I will jump on the "little goes a long way" bandwagon too! In my diffuser, most of my other oils take about five to six drops to get a good solid scent to spread around. This stuff? Two, MAYBE three drops and you are good to go! To be honest, I wasn't really sure about it when I first smelled it in the bottle...it smelled just like the extract you cook with and I thought it might be too much. But once I put it in my diffuser, it smelled terrific. Great stuff!

This vanilla oil is amazing! I agree with the others when they say a little goes a long way... It is strong and beautiful... Quite frankly, it smells so good every time I use it I really want to taste it! (However, that is not a good idea.) This a a great price for a great oil... I recommend it to all vanilla lovers :)

Smells fantastic - exactly like it should. One note of caution: don't judge the scent holding the bottle right under your nose, or you'll get the alcoholic smell mentioned by another reviewer. Out of the bottle, this is just right.

Oh, WOW!!!
Like the majority of the population, I find vanilla to be a pleasant, comforting smell, but it's never been one of my desert-island-five scents. Until now, that is. This vanilla completely knocked my socks off. I went nuts and made enough products to use the entire bottle the first day after receiving it and my only regret is that I didn't purchase a bigger one. Fortunately, there are a few drops stuck in the bottom of the bottle, which should keep me company until my next shipment arrives.
Bravo, New Directions! Yet another product that surpasses all my expectations!

This vanilla is wonderful. Not overly sweet like some vanillas I've smelled. The scent right from the bottle has a slight alcohol aroma, but once you put it on, it completely dissipates. The only complaint is that I tried to mix it with vetiver and it took A LOT of vanilla to blend well with the 3 drops of vetiver I used. But, I was able to get the scent I wanted.

This is a beautiful product! Smells rich and luxurious. I like to blend it with lavender or patchouli but if I'm feeling particularly romantic I'll make a small batch of CP with just this EO. I highly recommend it!

I'm disappointed that my experience did not compare with others here. It had trouble in CP soap, which in a stable recipe re-liquefied in the mold long after trace (in fact, I used it in half a batch and another EO in the other, and the other half of the batch behaved beautifully). The scent was kind of like a dirty, more alcoholic, Kahlua, and I can't for the life of me tell the difference between the product and the more upscale (but still significantly cheaper) grocery store Madagascar vanilla extracts. The CP soap I used it in still has a couple of weeks left to cure, and I will be delighted to prove myself wrong if curing brings out a vanilla scent. It gives lotion an alcoholic scent, and changed the consistency, but I can detect Vanilla in it. Overall, I'm confused since so many reviewers reported a delightful vanilla scent that held its own in CP soap, and to be honest, this was not my experience at all. I've been very happy with other oils bought from New Directions.
New Directions Aromatics Response:
Our Vanilla Essential Oil is produced from the Oleoresin. We use the finest quality Bourbon type beans and then concentrate it 10 fold.
Unfortunately, Vanilla Essential Oil is one of the more difficult essential oils to use in manufacturing. Producers of soap also tend to use different ratios of ingredients, and quite often different ingredients all-together. In situations where customers are experiencing different results than others, we recommend they ask other consumers on our forum. Quite often small changes can produce the desired results.
