Botanical Name: Lavandula stoechas

Main Constituents:
Linalool: 42%
Linalyl acetate: 20%
Camphor: 9.23%

Plant Part: Flowers

Origin: Spain

Processing Method: Steam Distillation

Description / Color / Consistency: A thin, clear, colourless to pale yellow liquid.

Aromatics Summary / Note / Strength of Aroma: A top note of strong aroma, Lavender Spanish has a floral scent that is somewhat more camphoraceous than Lavender 40/42, and smells like fresh lavender.

Blends With: Bay, Bergamot, Chamomile, Citronella, Clary Sage, Geranium, Jasmine, Lemon, Mandarin, Orange, Palmarosa, Patchouli, Pine, Thyme, Rosemary, Rosewood and Ylang-ylang.

Product Abstract: The Lavender plant is a woody evergreen shrub, up to 1 meter tall, with pale green, narrow linear leaves and violet blue flowers. The entire plant is covered with oil glands, which are in the star shaped hairs that cover the plant. Lavender has been used since ancient times, and the Romans added lavender to their bath water, hence the name from the Latin lavare, 'to wash'. Differences in soil, altitude and temperature, precipitation and seasons contribute to subtle changes in the scent from one lot of Lavender to another.

Cautions: Dilute before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.

Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping), be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.

NOTICE: This item is listed under California Proposition 65. California residents will receive this product labeled accordingly.

I truly hate to leave a two star review, because this scent isn't *bad*, exactly. It's just completely different than the previous Spanish lavender - it's more floral, fruitier almost, and far weaker than any previous Spanish lavender I've tried. To make matters worse, I ordered the 16.6 oz bottle, so now what? I'm well-past the 2 week return period, as I didn't run out of my last bottle until yesterday. I'll have to resign myself to buying another bottle from another supplier and just use this for...I have no idea. I'd hate to include "lavender" in my ingredients and have the recipient complain that it doesn't smell like lavender. A shame. This is the first product I've gotten from NDA that I haven't loved.

We already carry four other excellent Lavenders, and based on the similarity of its chemical components to Spike Lavender, we took a chance on this one. I was delighted when I smelled it, and so are all my friends and customers! I have given it to my Honey three times now, but he always finds himself giving it to someone who really needs a lift! Kudos to you for obtaining this excellent strong, sweet, comforting and uplifting Spanish Lavender. Based on its components, it should strengthen the immune system. And our energetic reading on it indicates that it is also an aphrodisiac and gets the sensual juices going!

I've grown lavender and am familiar with the scent of the flower - which is amazing. I've also ordered and received Population, Bulgarian and Spanish Lavender EO's from New Directions and must say that no EO has the true fragrance of the real flower, but have to say that this Spanish Lavender EO is my favorite. It does have that typical camphorous smell, but after 'dry-down', smells great. One reviewer stated that it was not a "strong" sent, but I disagree. For a middle note scent, it has a more lingering smell. Also, a bit more of the floral than the others.

This is a sharp smelling Lavender that remaines almost unchanged in creams and soaps. Lots of people prefer it's smell to more subtle and delicate French Lavender. I use them interchangably depending on my mood :o)

This is a good lavender. It is not something I'd jump up and down with delight over however. It is good, not great. It is more florally than most more camphorous or medicinal lavenders which I like and appreciate but it's not quite as strong as I'm accustomed to lavender being. It seems not something I would use for aromatherapy actually. I would use it for soap but likely mix it with something - either woodsy or herbally.

I love this Spanish lavender. I believe this is my favorite, even over the French. It smells like the true plant. Great price always from ND!

I have tried most of ND's Lavenders and I, like many of my customers, prefer the Spanish Lavender. In fact, I tried making CP soap with the 40/42 and had two customers refuse to buy that soap, citing the fact that they were used to the strength of the Spanish lavender and didn't want a "soft" lavender scent. (Naturally, the Spanish has more camphor which only adds to it's stronger fragrance.) I will continue to use the 40/42 in my lotion; however, the Spanish really stands out in CP soap and my sugar scrubs so there's definitely a niche for both. Overall, I think New Directions has some of the best lavender Eos on the market today.

I've tried most all the Lavenders from NDA and I prefer the Spanish for my CP soap. In fact, over the holidays, I had two long-time customers refuse to buy the Lavender soap I had on hand because I had run out of the Spanish and made this batch with 40/42 . To me, the Spanish lavender lingers longer than others but still has a soft, floral scent -- and it certainly holds up better in my soap. While I love the 40/42 in lotions and butters, for soap it's Spanish lavender.

Used this directly on my 7 year old's temples for a headache. It was very soothing and drifted him off to sleep. I also created a sanctuary scent for nighttime using this, bergamot and cedarwood. It's very soothing for restful sleep. I use it in my room as well as my kids. LOVE lavender.

Nice Lavender Smell for Steams and Massage. Better than the South African which is more expensive.

I gave this kit to a friend of mine (who had heard a lot about M&P soap from me already) and she loved it. Her 10 year old daughter also enjoyed making soap and they ended up using the whole 2 bricks of soap in one sitting!!! They also loved the fragrances! Great value and a nice gift for a first try at M&P soap!

I'm not a big Lavender fan but I have to say this one is very nice. I've smelt other ones but this one has a nice floral scent, which is what I needed it for. Infact I just purchased more. I can actually say I like Lavender now! Thanks again ND for another great product.

I was surprised to find I prefer this one over the other Lavender oils; The ones I have tried are: French, Bulgarian, South African, Population, Moldova, and 40/42. It strikes me as the most balanced of the lavender oils I have tried. It's close to Moldova but less menthol than Moldova and less herbacious-bitter than French. I like Bulgarian but Bulgarian is a bit weak and fruity-smelling compared to the Spanish. Population seems salty-earthy to me and South African is almost putrid in comparison to Spanish. Spanish Lavender oil seems to hit the right olfactory note. It's excellent when warmed in candles, used to scent a heating pad, or directly on skin. The warmth seems to be the key; that's what brings it out.

Smells floral and fruity and not as herbaceous as other lavenders. I've read and have been told that Spanish Lavender isn't as therapeutic as other varieties, but Spanish Lavender does have some beneficial value. It's good for hair and skin. And it can be very relaxing! Fantastic in soap. The scent lasts and lasts.

I ordered this oil a few months ago now, and I just have to say what a wonderful scent this is to work with! I have used it in several batches of CP soap, and lotion bars ...the scent comes out so nice. This is definately a lavender that you smell a more floral note and slightly less herbal than other lavenders I have tried. So if your'e going for floral this is the one! Some of my customers pick up my products to take a whiff and when they smell this one some say " I usually don't care much for lavender, but this one actually smells good!" I am buying a bigger bottle next order!

My opinion of this Spanish essential oil is very high. I have tried several other types and this is so wonderful. I am a soap maker, I use this oil in my cold process soap and the scent stays very well in the cure. I smell slightly more floral notes than herbal compared with others. If you like lavender you will love this one! I also made bath melts and they too smell devine! Thank you.

Because I don't care for the scent of lavender essential oils, although I love the smell of the flowers, I'm rating this on the apparent quality and the fantastic price despite my dislike of the scent of this oil. I use lavender extensively on the skin for neck pain, insomnia, bruises, burns, itches, etc., and as a spider repellant, and for all-around household cleaning by adding it to natural cleaners, vinegar, etc., and I usually blend it with other oils that make it smell better - e.g., lavender, sweet orange, Atlantic Cedarwood, and vanilla essential oils combined make a wonderful air freshener and insect repellant.

I love this Lavender! I ordered both Croatian and Spanish and the Spanish type is more lovable to me. I find it not too overwhelming and has just the right strength of aroma. I was looking for something that wasn't too woody or camphorous and this was perfect! I'm on my 2nd order of 1 liter already and is keeping this as part of my product line!

I dabbed this on my husbands nicks and cuts after shaving and he uses it all the time now. I had to buy him his own bottle. He says that this is the only product that relieves the irritation from shaving. Will definately buy again!

Wow I absolutely love this stuff, I think I might be addicted. Ordered the 3oz size and loved it so much I ordered the 33oz size the next week. I love Lavender and I've purchased numerous Lavender essential oils but none even came close to this Spanish Lavender. It's very strong with just the right amount of minty lift. I haven't tried the other varieties but I don't see how they could be any better than this!

Old Time Favorite! And the price is just right! My sisters favorite was Lavender before she passed away. And now this oil makes it on my Top Seller Soap! And I myself use it after a long day of soap making, best night sleep I ever had!
