Dear Customer,

Due to the rising costs of administering small orders, we are instituting a policy for minimum orders of $100, in our efforts to keep costs to as low as possible and offer the best wholesale pricing in the industry.

For orders less than $100, a small order administration fee of $20 will apply. This policy will be effective February 3rd, 2014. We truly regret any inconvenience that this might cause.

Kind Regards,

Alex B. Thomas

Kokum Refined Butter

Average Product Rating: 4.3 / 5 (Based on 11 Customer Reviews)

Kokum Butter comes from the seeds of the Garcinia indicia tree indigenous to India. This butter is a harder, cream-coloured and odour-free butter. Often underrated, Kokum Butter is one of the hardest and most stable vegetable butters. It offers excellent emollient properties to assist with skin health. It is quickly absorbed into the skin without leaving a greasy feel and is often used as a substitute for Cocoa Butter due to its uniform triglyceride composition.

Common Uses: With its relatively high melt point, Kokum Butter liquefies slowly at skin temperature making it ideal for use in lipsticks and lip balms. It is also used in bar soaps, body butters, creams and conditioners. It is more quickly absorbed into the skin without leaving a greasy feel, and due to its uniform triglyceride composition, it is often used as a substitute for Cocoa Butter.

Recommended Usage:
Lotions & Creams: 5 - 20 %
Balms: 5 - 100 %
Bar Soaps: 5 - 20 %
Hair Conditioners: 2 - 5 %

When adding a butter to creams and lotions, it might be necessary to gently warm it until melted or very soft in texture, and can be incorporated into the final product. Using a hand blender, create a vortex with your cream or lotion and drizzle in your melted butter until fully incorporated and consistently smooth. For addition in soaps, the general rule of thumb is one tablespoon per pound (15 ml/500 g). As with most raw materials, results may vary, so we strongly recommend small, lab-scale batches prior to any commercial manufacturing.

Shelf Life:Store in cool temperatures (below 25 C) away from light and moisture in an air-tight container. The product will become liquid above ambient temperatures (e.g., 36 C), but will re-solidify upon cooling without affecting functionality. This butter has a shelf-life of one year when stored properly.

This kokum butter is fantastic. I make CP soap with it as one of the ingredients and it just does a fabulous job in it. It doesn't seem to speed acceleration any more than any other butter. When I first got it I rubbed some on my arm and it sunk into my skin directly and didn't leave a sticky, oiliness on my arm - whereas I had done the same with the shea and it was both sticky, oily and smelly - lol but I did purchase the crude kind - and it has worked remarkably well in soap also although it is not something I would put in a lotion without first putting it through about 3 layers of cheesecloth and I knew going in that the crude was going to be something that if I wanted to work with it beyond soaping was going to require some processing on my part but I figure better spend less and me spend the extra time on it than spend more for them to do the refining!! I have yet to try it in lotion but I have put it in hair conditioner, unfiltered and it came out just outstanding! Though I did need to add fragrance! I like to fragrance my hair products anyway. Bottom line, I would recommend the kokum butter! (and the shea LOL)

I've used this product from NDA for about 3 years now. It always melted really smooth and was great in my creams and lotions. However, this last order, it has been different. It stays gritty and clumpy. Even bringing my oils to 140 degrees it is not melting smooth. Really disappointing, because it directly affects my creams and lotions and it's just not incorporating well. I love kokum because of my previous experience with it. If my only experience was from this last batch, I would not be reordering. I'm hopeful this was a fluke batch.

I was so excited to us this in my lipstick formula, but there is this weird curdled grit that is in it when it melts down that is really sandy. I don't want to have to strain this before I use it so I switched to cocoa butter. I love cocoa butter too, but I REALLY wanted to use this.

I love the feel of this butter BUT I cannot get to melt right into my products which is odd since it melts into my skin with just a little rubbing. It rather curdles when I tried to add it to lip balms so I use it in soap or neat. I have tried melting by itself, with the other oil ingredients to no avail. I tried low and a higher temp. I did put it into lotion and I didn't notice the curdle as much as in lip balms. I was a bit disappointed since I really wanted to use it for lips.

I used this in my apricot scrub. I use it for my feet with the ground apricot kernels that I think they stopped selling. It works great to rid my feet of dead skin cells and give them a silky and smooth feel. Plus it's great as a moisturizer and I didn't notice any smell when I opened the container of the Kokum butter. But my feet did feel a little slippery when getting out of the tub.

I use this in lip products. It's excellent for mixing with hard butters to give it some softness, it also feels great on lips and skin. Mild woody type scent. Another loved item.

I would recommend this butter. It absorbes really easy and doesn't clog pores. I don't care about the smell, I care about the benefits I get from the butter. Mind the recommended usage in any product that you make and it won't "stink".

The smell is so minimal and it's properties well outweigh any scent. I find it an earthy scent and I like it a lot for my natural and organic line. I added it to a butter bar soap and it worked amazing! I am getting more soon, as I am almost out! ;)
