Botanical Name: Amyris balsamifera.

Main Constituents: Valerianol, β-eudesmol

Plant Part: Wood and branches

Origin: Dominican Republic

Processing Method: Steam Distilled

Description / Colour / Consistency:  A moderately viscous but clear, pale yellow liquid.

Aromatic Summary / Note / Strength of Aroma: A base-to-middle note with a medium aroma, its scent is mild, sweetly balsamic and somewhat reminiscent of Cedar and Muhuhu.

Blends With:  Amber, Jasmine, Rose, and other woods. It is often used to extend Sandalwood.

Product Abstract: Also known as West Indian Sandalwood, Amyris is indigenous to Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The shrub wood for this distillation is collected from fallen branches and dead wood that when stripped of its bark, retains the precious oils. Available year-round, the semi-aridity of the locale is constant and gives the oil ongoing consistency in quality and scent. Amyris Oil has traditionally been used medicinally, as a fragrance, and as an aid to enhance meditation. It is also used as a fixative in perfumery, and is a welcome addition to fine toiletries and soaps.

Cautions: Dilute before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.

Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping) be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.

I have to say that this smells nothing like sandalwood although its in the same family. It's not my favorite aroma by itself but mixed with Frankincense its not bad. I use the blend along with avocado oil as a skin moisturizer and its been very effective as I live in a very low humidity area ... high desert ...

Amyris balsamifera! This essential oil is perfect for its fixative qualities, enhancing base notes, stretching a fragrance compound quantity, and also smells great. I personally find that Amyris oil in general compliments any essential oil, in particular for bath and body products when the strength of the fixatives is important for “holding” a fragrance in the finished product. This oil can enhance and soften woodsy notes, add “creaminess” to spice notes, deepen floral notes such as roses, jasmines, and carnation, “round” and tame sharp floral notes such as lavender or herbaceous notes like tea tree or roman chamomile...any oil with high amounts of camphor, menthol, thujone, etc. I have used Amyris oil from many different companies, NDA has a pretty good quality Amyris, not the best quality for perfume, but for bath and body products, It is consistent and cost-effective. The fragrance profile of the NDA Amyris balsamifera is warm, creamy, slightly powdery, reminiscent of sandalwood mixed with Virginian cedarwood, faint spice, and “buttery.

The fragrance is soft and almost tender. The oil itself is thick almost like honey and I had to take the dropper out of the bottle to use it. I like to diffuse new oils singularly to really get a feel for the fragrance and therapeutic properties. I am well pleased with Amyris. I think it will blend nicely with my favorite frankincense. Thanks NDA!

I am very glad I tried this new offering from NDA. Amyris has a soft, pleasant wood/vanilla scent. It is very difficult to get out of the dropper because of its viscosity, which I expected. Very lovely in my diffuser blends. I find it very relaxing.

This is one of the new oils that I tried on my last order. It is exceptionally nice, and the description on the website is actually very accurate. I find that it is very reminiscent of sandalwood benzoin oil and vanilla. In fact, these are the three oils that I will be using it to enhance. It will blend in very nicely with anything involving Cedarwood, lavender, frankincense, or ylang ylang.

Quite delightful, soft, woody with floral undertones (at least to me) .. I like it on its own, somewhat delicate, and I think it will round out blends nicely.
