Description / Color / Consistency: A thin, light yellowish green to yellowish brown liquid.
Aromatic Summary / Note / Strength of Aroma: The aroma is basically citrus, yet fruity and sweet with a warm spicy floral quality, and is reminiscent of Neroli, giving a middle note of medium strength.
Product Abstract: The Bergamot tree can grow up to four meters high, with star-shaped flowers, and smooth leaves, bearing citrus fruit resembling a cross between an orange and a grapefruit but in a pear-shape. The fruit ripens from green to yellow. The name Bergamot is derived from the city Bergamo in Lombardy where the oil was first sold. In this variety, the bergaptene content which causes photosensitivity has been removed. This allows the Bergamot to be used in skin and hair care formulations without concern for phototoxicity after exposure to the sun.
Cautions: This essential oil may contain phototoxic properties and it is suggested to avoid exposure to the sun after application to the skin. Dilute well before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.
Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping) be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.
WARNING Prop 65: This product contains a component which is listed under California Proposition 65. California residents will receive this product labeled accordingly.

Rating: THE BEST Bergamot!!! I think this is one of my top favorite essential oils. It blends so nicely with Patchouli (also from ND and awesome!) and Lavender. I use it in so many beds of my CP soap, as well as in candles. I will never stop buying this as long as it is offered. Not only an excellent value, but best smelling-TOPS!

Rating: This Bergamot is a very solid Buy. It smells so wonderful compared to others that I've smelled it has a very distinct grapefruit like smell it is also sweet and tangy it is truly amazing. My favorite part is when the top notes Are gone it smells even more delicious I love using this in homemade soaps and lotions it just adds zest to so many blends I love mixing it with lavender for such a relaxing smell it almost puts you in deep meditative state it's so tranquil. Plus this variety has the bergaptene removed so it is safe to use in skincare and go out in the sun. I will definitely be purchasing more.

Rating: Top of the line product. I will not buy an essential oil from anyone else. New Directions has spoiled me. Your products are truly the best. Tried a different supplier to save some money and ended up wasting my money as half the EO’s smelled like poison. This bergamot is the intoxicating and holds very well in cpsoap. It is one of my favorites and blends well with other EO’s.

Rating: Love love love this eo. Deep, rich citrus scent that really rounds out my blends. I used it in my holiday spice body butter in place of sweet orange oil and it worked perfectly.

Rating: excellent quality, I could even say that this bergamot has a little more 'depth' to it than others I've tried.

Rating: Smells nice and masculine.
By:Silvia, Riverside, California Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 15-Apr-2013
Rating: This is the prettiest citrus essential oil I've ever smelled! Unfortunately it is easily overpowered by other essential oil. Still, one of my favorites because it smells so clean uplifting!
By:Sarah, Temecula, California Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 27-Sep-2013
Rating: This is a wonderful, uplifting, sweet citrus scent. It lends a lovely top note to my CP soaps. More is needed for soap making than when using other citrus oils, but this is one EO I would never be withoug!
Rating: I love this eo I used it in my M&P soap and it came out smelling great and the fragrance stays, I love the way it smells. My love affair started with Earl Grey tea and now I finally have the eo to use. Thank you NDA

By:Stacey, Paris, Illinois Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 20-Nov-2011
Rating: this smelled absolutely amazing out of the bottle but did not hold up in cp soap AT ALL. it's a shame b/c it's a lovely scent.
By:Meredith, Los Angeles, California Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 22-Aug-2012
Rating: Absolutely beautiful scent! Flowery, fruity, and citrus-y. Blends well with many flower scents; does not overpower but still comes through well. Works beautifully in CP soaps as well as perfumes. So happy that NDA carries the bergaptene-free one :) Thank you!
Rating: This oil reminds me of perfume, but not in a perfume-y way, if that makes sense. I feel it could be perfect mixed with many things to make both sophisticated and sensual scents. I feel all citrus fruits are great for skin and are uplifting and refreshing, and bergamot is a wonderful subtle option. And bergaptene-free!--That's wonderful!
By:Kelly, North Babylon, New York Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 21-Jan-2012
Rating: Excellent quality, just used in CP soap with equal parts of clary sage and a touch of black pepper, the scent stays true.
By:Patricia, Gaylord, Michigan Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 19-Mar-2011
Rating: Bergamot offers a sweet citrus smell that's great for various skin conditions (such as psoriasis and eczema). Some of the reviews below state that the oil is a bit too sharp for them, etc., but I actually find the oil really warm and sweet. It's not sharp like lemon or lime oils. It has a fruity floral quality that's a bit intoxicating.... it definitely has that warm sweet quality of fruit and floral notes that lavender has (if that makes any sense). It's great for blends in soap. And because it's bergaptene free, you don't have to worry about it being phototoxic.
By:Steven, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 11-Dec-2011
Rating: This is a great oil, not one of my absolute favorites, but quite versatile nonetheless in making perfumes. It's definitely citrusy and also quite sharp. In addition, it has a floral quality to it. It's pretty strong right out of the bottle, so a little goes a long way.
By:Lauretta, San Diego, California Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 19-Jun-2010
Rating: Like the previous review stated, not that warm slightly peppery Bergamot that I am used to, but sharper and crisper and more heavily weighted to the sweet citrusy side. Still, a wonderful scent and free from Bergaptene.
By:Laura, Vancouver, British Columbia Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 09-Nov-2005
Rating: Great price, too, I want to add! One of the best I've seen.
By:Andrea, Katy, Texas Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 14-Mar-2011
Rating: I was so excited to get this oil that so many people love! I like it and am glad to have a citrus scent that I can use without worrying about photosensitivity. It's not as strong as I'd hoped, though. Will have to get the regular bergamot soon to compare.

Rating: I have never tried Bergamot essential oil, and had heard good things about it. I've tried it my HP soap and it has been very popular. Great smelling quality oil, will definitely be back in the future.
By:Garrett, Cedar City, Utah Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 14-Apr-2010
Rating: Wonderful scent and the bergaptene free is perfect for skin care products.
Rating: I use bergamot in almost every essential oil combination I make. I tried NDA's bergamot for the first time and love it. It's ever so slightly more green and less fruity than some bergamots, but it's fabulous. And a great price!
Rating: This bergamot has a clean, sweet, blossomy orange scent with a pinaceous edge that has no bitterness. I find it energizing, like listening to a great trumpet player carry the melody in a band. Thanks for offering this oil.
By:Henry, Chattanooga, Tennessee Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 22-Jul-2010
Rating: Works great on my zits! Not a strong scent. I mixed it with pink grapefruit and baobob and some of the inflamation and redness in my acne go away almost immediately.

Rating: What can I say, but WONDERFUL!
By:Shirleen, Penetanguishene, Ontario Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 09-Nov-2005
Rating: Wonderful aroma! Soaps beautifully in CP soap. No acceleration or discoloration. Anchored with Litsea Cubeba with Earl Grey tea. Splendid!!
Rating: I think bergaptene free bergamot oil smells better than just bergamot oil. I bough both versions. Originally, I thought the bergaptene version smelled weaker because it had go through the process of taking out bergaptene, but actually, the treated version smelled more floral and not bitter (compared to the original). I wish both versions would smell stronger though.

Rating: Love this! Smells great and blends very well with other oils. Can't wait to use it in my HP soaps.
Rating: The removal of bergaptene did not affect the quality of the bergamot. The package protection is amazing.
By:Clara, Markham, Ontario Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 09-Nov-2005
Rating: Outstanding quality and price! Blends well with many essential oils. I can't detect a scent difference between Bergamot and Bergaptene Free Bergamot, so I will be purchasing the Bergaptene Free going forward for use in body products - Both are outstanding in quality.

Rating: This was my first whiff of bergamot and I like it very much! I like that bergamot's more complex than other citrus EO's. This oil has alot of character.
Rating: My husband has found a new favourite scent blend - Bergamot and Frankincense. I prefer it with a drop of Rose added, myself.
By:Karen, Nepean, Ontario Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 09-Nov-2005
Rating: Excellent price for this wonderful uplifting oil! And better than regular bergamot as it is not as phototoxic. Its uses are endless and an 'essential essential oil' for any aromatherapist. Really wonderful with Yuzu or Grapefruit in a refreshing spray. A great buy for the perfect bergamot.
