Description / Color / Consistency: A light, oily orange to reddish-orange liquid.
Aromatic Summary / Note / Strength of Aroma: Blood Orange (Sicily) essential oil has a warm, fresh citrus scent that is tangy. It is a middle note of medium aroma.
Product Abstract: Citrus sinensis is a middle-sized evergreen tree, covered with bark of a greenish-brown color, having auxiliary spines on the branches. The leaves are alternate, ovate-oblong, acute, shining green, the stalk more or less winged. The blood orange has streaks of red in the fruit, and when squeezed the juice is often reddish. Its red pigment, anthocyanin, is an antioxidant that is rare in the rest of the citrus family. A recently hybridized orange, it was cultivated in China and the southern Mediterranean in the early 18th century. The three which are widely cultivated today are the Moro, Toracco, and Sanguinello.
Cautions: This essential oil may contain phototoxic properties and it is suggested to avoid exposure to the sun after application to the skin. Dilute well before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.
Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping) be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.

Rating: I like this even better than the Clementine. It has a very well-rounded scent, fruity, sweet, and tangy at the same time. If you're a fan of the satsuma scent from the body shop, this is even better.

Rating: What a beautiful orange! Blood orange has always been my favorite orange essential oil but the company I have been getting it from doesn't sell the larger bottles anymore. I stumbled across new directions and the prices are amazing and when I got the oil and smelled it I was not disappointed!!

Rating: I was hesitant to buy because of Phototoxicity but I researched and found out Blood orange and Mandarin are not at all Phototoxic. I ran right back to ND and bought a 3.3oz. In love with the energetic scent! Be on the lookout for my reviews because I post my honest non-biased opinions of everything to help another shopper who may be second thinking. Go for this EO, it is beautiful! I like how it gives my lip balms an orangy/yellow color!

Rating: This is such an exotic orange variety, when you smell it for the first time you can clearly smell the orange but it has a very tangy and crisp scent to it it makes it more unique than other orange essential oils I think this is well worth the money. The day I got it I open the bottle and put two drops on a grease stain that I had on my countertop since I moved in my house I could not get this grease stain out with any other cleaners or products I've used, but them two drops of blood Orange essential oil tore through the grease like it was nothing! I couldn't believe it it removed that built up grease so easily! this is such a great oil for cleaning I will be using it in all my homemade cleaning products its such a powerful degreaser and smells so amazing and delish!

Rating: I love this EO. All the refreshing uplifting aroma of fresh orange but with a deeper tartness that makes it less generic and more exotic. I use this EO for my dish soap....making it the only good thing about doing the dishes. :)
By:Jennifer, Utica, New York Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 28-Nov-2008
Rating: Blood Orange EO is exactly as advertised. Smells like the inside of a freshly peeled orange rind. It's a very nice citrus note that everyone can recognize but doesn't overpower, like Lemongrass or Citronella. It also lacks the saccharine sweetness of Mandarin. Makes for a great go-to citrus note.
By:Michael, Los Angeles, California Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 13-Jan-2015
Rating: I love the sweetness of this wonderful Blood Orange! I can never seem to have enough orange EO's around for soap making, cleaning, making the house smell like heaven, etc. This oil is top-notch and affordable! Thanks NDA!

Rating: I love this tangy sweet scent! I have been diffusing it or adding a few drops to warm water and using it to clean with a microfiber cloth. It leaves a beautiful, lasting scent that is uplifting and cheerful! The price point is terrific also. Thanks NDA!
By:Coletta, Streetsboro, Ohio Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 20-Aug-2008
Rating: This blood orange blew me away compared to a different brand of orange oil I had purchased at my local health food store. I use my oils for aromatherapy and diffusing and wish I had bought a bigger bottle of this one.
Rating: Out of the bottle it smells great, like fresh blood orange rind, tangy with a bit of sweetness. I happened to use this essential oil in a lip balm recipe with chocolate, and the smell is amazingly delicious! I will be placing an order for a larger bottle soon, can't wait to try this in my scrubs, lotions & soaps :)
By:Lisa, Pellston, Michigan Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 03-May-2008
Rating: Great oil! Smells slightly softer than the tangerine 5 fold, and exactly like peeling an orange. Wished I would have gotten the larger size.
By:Lisa, Pellston, Michigan Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 03-May-2008
Rating: Some would say this oil smells very similar to that of sweet orange; i thought that to myself upon opening the bottle. However, the blood orange variety is much more intense and balanced in my opinion, worth the extra because it works better in blends than sweet orange.
By:William, Naperville, Illinois Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 19-Dec-2012
Rating: I purchased this again ...in the bigger size!
This blood orange has quickly become my favorite orange fragrance! blends well with other oils or smells great on it's own. Fresh, clean, sweet intense citrus... perfect O.

Rating: this is a beautiful scent! It is like sweet orange's more sophisticated sister. With vanilla and black pepper, it is irresistible.
By:Tiffany, Morrisville, Pennsylvania Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 24-Dec-2012
Rating: Deep well rounded citrus. True to the name, you know when you smell a blood orange it has that subtle something different lingering around the edges? Well this oil has that too. It's again, subtle but seems to come out more in blends rather than the bottle. This is a really nice EO. I will buy again.

Rating: When I opened this bottle I couldn't close it! Such a wonderful deep citrus scent! I was going to combine it in a citrus soap but I think I want this single fragrance to stand out. Definitely will be a regular EO in my collection!

By:Suzanne, Quakertown, Pennsylvania Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 10-Feb-2011
Rating: Out of the Blood Orange essential oils I have tried from other vendors New Directions has what I believe is the best quality of this particular oil. It smell very clean, sweet, and balanced. Balanced is the key word, as this oil would win someone over that is not very keen on citrus smells.
By:Paul, Long Beach, California

Rating: Powerful, tart orange juice smell. Vivid orange liquid. Unfortunately, I didn't detect the warmth or richness I have come to expect from Blood Orange essential oil. Regardless of expectations, a very bright and true orange with a light consistency that makes it easy to dispense drop by drop.

Rating: I use blood orange EO in lotions, creams and lip balms and I LOVE it! The scent is mesmerizing, and has that wonderfully fruity citrus smell with just a bite of something indescribably awesome and sweet.
Sweet orange EO has nothing on this blood orange EO in my opinion.
By:Ashley, Madison, Wisconsin Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 02-Nov-2011
Rating: Blood orange has a subtle warm orange scent that differentiates it from Sweet Orange. The oil also has a reddish-orange tint to it, so it can stain if you use it as a perfume--it's also photo-toxic (makes skin extremely sensitive to sun exposure after application), so be-careful if you do use it as a perfume or in lotion. It's probably more ideal to use in cold process soaps.

Rating: I love, love, love, this orange essential oil! mmmmm Yum! It just smells so good, a great blender, oh did I say how much I love this oil? Just buy it! :)
Rating: WOW!!! I didn't even know that I was particularly fond of the scent of oranges until I smelled this!! It definitely smells like oranges, only it's sweeter and softer than the usual orange to me. I got the sample size and can't believe how quickly I ran out of it because of putting it in everything! Mixed with the chocolate FO, it's especially yummy!!
By:Lauretta, San Diego, California Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 19-Jun-2010
Rating: Very nice citrus oil. I used it with the sweet orange eo and some vanilla oleoresin and it smells like a sophisticated creamsicle. I combined it once again with the sweet orange eo, some labdanum eo, and some ginger eo and it smells sooo good in my cp soap.

This Blood Orange smells simply delicious... light, fresh, almost floral, I am in love with it already! I am very excited to make a batch of my (cold process) soap with it.
Rating: This EO is addictive. The scent is so crisp, clean, and inviting. I spray it in my car! I am so happy to have "found" New Directions. Every aspect is a pleasure.
Rating: Blood Orange is nice mixed with other oils in diffusers and soaps. Only a few drops is needed.

Rating: I love this product. I must say, when I first got it I was skeptical when the package arrived however, the smell was so intoxicating I could not stop from smiling. This sent can be smelled through the bottle. I did not even have to open it up before I fell in love with it. I used this with the lemongrass eo in the ND body butter and I could not get enough. My daughter had me make some for her and her friends. I would have to say that this will definitely be a favorite of mine.
Rating: Blood Orange added a wonderful note to my fall smudge blend! I love eating blood oranges and it smelled as if I just peeled and broke one apart! It always reminds me of my gram and her purchassing them during holiday times. Your oil are of the highest quality. Please keep it up!

Rating: What a delicious oil! I have never been disappointed with any oils I've ordered from ND, and this is no exception. Opening the bottle was like zesting the orange myself! I added this to lavender for a sweet smelling deodorant blend, and also with valerian and chamomile for a sleep blend that I drop on my pillow each night.

Rating: This is an amazing EO. The scent is so uplifting and fresh. It smells like a bottle of fresh squeezed blood oranges (peel and all). I used this EO (along with clove and benzoin oils) in my first ever batch of soap, and it adds a very warm/sweet tone to the overall frangrance. This was my first order with NDA, and it certainly won't be my last. I'm super impressed with the products, packaging, and service.

By:Karina, Richmond Hill, New York Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 14-Sep-2007
Rating: As soon as I opened this bottle, I couldn't stop smelling it. I haven't even had a chance to use it in anything yet and I can hardly wait to do so. I tried to describe the smell to a family member and was stumped. It reminds me strongly of clementines but also tangerines and every variety of orange out there. And that still doesn't even begin to describe it. It's sweet and tangy and fresh and fruity and you can all take my word for it being an effective anti-depressant. And I'm still shocked by the rock-bottom price of this oil. If you even remotely like the smell of oranges, do not even bother with a small tester size of this one. :o)
Rating: WOW! I know the description lists the strength of this oil as "medium", but it's really strong! So strong that some of the most potent oils I purchased either can't stand up to it, or compete so strongly that they can't be blended. However, this is a good thing - given how far a single drop of this oil will take you, the price is even more amazing. Also, this works even better than clary sage EO as an antidepressant! (Fresh clary sage is still the best, but this oil really gives it a run for its money)! Very, very impressed with this oil, which is richer than sweet orange, but still incredibly bright!
