Rating: Very nice ginger scent, warming - soothing.. all around blending - I really like having this oil on hand.

Rating: Has a nice earthy and spicy scent!

Rating: This is the scent I was looking for. While I, too, love the sweet and spicy aroma of fresh ginger, I wanted the earthiness of ginger root. The earthy, woody scent is a perfect base note for flightier top notes, pairs well for masculine scents, and is the right price for cp soap.

Rating: This is a great fixative (in small quantities) for other, lighter oils. The fragrance is woody and musty, and does not smell remotely like freshly cut ginger. A little bit goes a long way.
Rating: Not exactly what i expected fragrance wise. But this is my first time working with ginger root. I'll just play mad scientist and come up with something!
Rating: This is straight up ginger root. Although I associate ginger with sweetness (because I like sweet ginger tea and candy) this is not a sugary sweet ginger, you can get that with it by blending other EOs. On its own it is truly straight forward ginger root. I love it for circulation and my chai concoctions! Thanks ND this one is warm and true.

Rating: I'm not very impressed by this - the only real 'let-down' of my entire order from NDA. It's not a strong ginger scent like you'd get if you sliced into a fresh piece. It's a little more root-ish earthy sort of scent. Still good, just not for the same things.

Rating: Got a sample size of this... which was a good thing because it really didn't live up to other ginger essential oils I've gotten from other suppliers. I realize this is a lower grade oil than the CO2 extraction, but this oil doesn't have any of the warm, spicy nuances you would typically want in a ginger oil. This one has a very raw, oily scent that was only faintly reminiscent of the ginger I was looking for.

Rating: I've had ginger oils that have smelled many different ways over the years. I usually always stick with ginger from India, but this one turned out fine. What people fail to realize sometimes is not all essential oils are going to smell exactly like the fresh whole herb. To me, it's more about the medicinal qualities rather than just the smell. If I can get it to smell good too, great.
Rating: I must have read about the Ginger C02, and ordered this by accident. I agree with most of the reviewers...this ginger essential oil is horribly woody, and does smell like ginger that is going bad. I thought maybe mixing it with the other essential oils for our Warm Ginger Grapefruit Body Creme might help, but I will be disposing of the entire batch as well as the 8 oz. bottle that I purchased. BUYER BEWARE! I WILL definitely read the reviews more closely. Love NDA's quality, but am disappointed that they would offer an inferior product even if it is cheaper.
Rating: I agree with the others that this doesn\'t smell like ginger at all. It turns my stomach to smell it and I\'m afraid to mix it with other oils. Is there one that smells more like the typical ginger smell?
New Directions Aromatics Response:
Please try our Ginger Root CO2 variety, while more expensive it has a superior scent to the less expensive Steam Distilled variety.

Rating: I do NOT like this. I love the smell of ginger and it doesn't smell like ginger at all. I would never guess that's what it was. It's overpowering too like everyone is saying. It's just gross, ugh
By:Leslie, Lexington, Kentucky Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 14-May-2009
Rating: Ack this stinks. I dont smell the ginger at all in it. It almost reminds me of the smell roots get when they arent dry but squishy and going bad. I am going to try it in a blend but wow this is some nasty stuff.

Rating: dont get me wrong, i love NDA with all my heart ... but this oil was stinky! i am one to adore odd smelling things too, this just didn't work. i am going to try the co2 version and see how that works, as i would like to use it in my soaps.
:(
Rating: Sorry but this stuff stinks...it is very very overpowering...it doesn't smell like ginger at all i could not even discribe the smell...maybe someone has some ideas what to mix it with..
Rating: I didn't like the smell at all. It didn't smell like fresh ginger, but more of a woodsy scent.
Even adding one drop in my products was very overpowering of any other essential oils I added.
Rating: Great smell, very therapuetic. Not overpowering, perfect.

Rating: This oil smells a little off-pudding to me unless it's warmed up. It works well when used sparingly in blends. I do feel that the CO2 ginger oil is of superior quality and worth the extra money.

Rating: I don't smell ginger in this at all. It does smell spicy and "green." I plan to use this in a muscle/joint blend along with clove and nutmeg EOs.

Rating: Truly a wonderful oil! I blend Ginger Root with Grapefruit, Orange, Lime, and a touch of Ylang Ylang - very little goes a long way.

Rating: I'm not so crazy about the smell of ginger but for anyone who suffers from nausea of any kind ginger is an excellennt choice.

Rating: This has more of a tang than spice to it than I was expecting. None the less, it's a highly aromatic oil. However, if you're looking for a spicier scent I recommend the Cinnamon Bark. It's much more appealing to the nose than Ginger Root.
Rating: A terrific ginger EO. It smell spicy-woody and fresh. Excellent in CP soap. Scent stays true and strong. Blends wonderfully with any citrus EO, sandalwood, patchouli, cedarwood and rosewood.
