Rating: I bought it by mistake and the aroma immediately let me know I had ordered the wrong Helichrysum. But I have to say the skin healing properties seem to act very fast. I don't smell any "barn full of sheep" and I am glad I did not read that comment before my purchase. I do still like the aroma of the Helichrysum italicum more but I added this one to my serum and I actually like it!
Rating: I'm new to ND, but not new to the use of EOs. I was somewhat surprised when reading the reviews written for this oil - Helichrysum. Most of the reviewers appeared to be focusing on the fragrance of Helichrysum, rather than its medicinal properties. Helichrysum is not valued for fragrance - but a treasure in tissue healing. Surface tissue and deep tissue, including muscle. It's highly potent - a 1-2% solution is sufficient for most medicinal applications.

Rating: To be real honest about this one, the rating is purely for the scent alone as I am super sensitive to certain notes.
I am sure it is a quality oil but the description is NOT consistent with its true scent. This one is beyond pungent and while I cannot put my finger on it, the "barn full of sheep" comment by Rita, would be closer to what I find it to be like even though I have never been in a barn full of sheep.
There is some sort of smokey musky scent in it and NOT the musky scent that is popular in musk based perfume notes. I CANNOT seem to find a decent blend for this essential oil. I have tried lavender, citrus and even added floral wax which are nice at first if the helichrysum is in minute quantities, but in a few hours, the helichrysum takes over and once again the scent is highly unpleasant.
I would probably suggest trying the SLOVENIA helichrysum if you have a choice. Right now, at the time of my order and this review, it is out of stock.
It is a real disappointment, scent-wise FOR ME.

Rating: This is truly a 5 star product, but the smell is something close to being in a barn full of sheep. I have not been able to figure out what blend of oils to use for same therapeutic values to avoid smelling like an unclean barn... any ideas would be great! This oil is among the best for reducing inflammation, pain, swelling, ear aches, joint pain, muscle pain and then some. I LOVE this oil... I just wish there was something that could be done with the awful smell.

Rating: Helichrysum fragrance can take a little getting used but when familiar with the characteristics this one is beautiful. I am just beginning to work with this Helichrysum and appreciating.....
Effective and quick inhalant: cools and soothes heated emotions and helpful with opening slightly stuffy sinus - make softer and more inviting by blending.
I am starting to work with it in warm compress and massage oils for achy over worked hands and liking the results so far.
Apt name...splendidum

Rating: This EO is very healing, my 5 year old niece is prone to staph infections from insect bites, I place it on her wounds undiluted and the magick happens! This is my number one go to product in the first aid kit, The scent is just as healing as the EO, I recommend this EO to anyone and everyone! It's amazing!!!!!

Rating: This EO smells Earthy and herbaceous to me, but it has a sort of nauseating undertone, that I personally find quite unpleasant. I don't smell the floral or minty tones as noted in the description. That said, I got it for the reputed therapeutic application for the skin. It's hard for me to say how well it works for that, because I absolutely have to blend this with other EOs to make the smell tolerable to me. But because the therapeutic applications are so renowned, I'm giving it 4 stars.

Rating: Can't live without this one - it is great for all kinds of skin problems. I use it in my rosacea and eczema formulas, and love it! A little goes a long way, which is good, because the smell (while fine to me) is a little adverse to a couple of my customers. You still get good benefits, even using it at a very low rate.
Rating: To update my rating 4 star on smell alone to 5 star based on smell plus its ability to heal shallow skin wounds. While it did not have much effect on the rosacea (I have found unfortunately that Rose oil absolute is my big gun for that $$$), it did work exceedingly well on scratches from a rose bush, a burn and places where I scratched raw mosquitoe/sand fly bites. This oil will be part of my first aid oil kit.

Rating: I just got this oil yesterday. To me the smell is very pleasant-it has the honey background as the Italicum/Everlasting type with a slightly camphorous tint and a nice woodsy/smokey dry down. I am testing it now for its effects on Rosacea-perhaps it will get a 5 star rating later. But for now I give it a 4 for its aroma alone.

Rating: I used this in a cream for myself, it helped with itchy, dry skin problems. I didn't have a problems with the odor, I used a Sandalwood fragrance oil and it worked lovely with it.
Rating: This is a wonderfully healing oil! I love it especially in a blend with lavender for all types of skin ailments.

Rating: Helichrysum is great! I use it with my massage clients for muscle aches and pains and it works wonderfully! By itself it smells something like pickles, but mixed with birch or lavendar it is awesome! Cooling and pain relieving!
Rating: I am truly in love with this eo. Has many, many aromatherapy uses. Beautiful!

Rating: A month ago I purchased this oil. I was a little unsure of it because of the aroma. After a while the aroma isn't bad as all. Actually I like it. I gave it a try for its medicinal properties as noted in other reviews. It's exemely effective. My daughter & I have knee problems. I rubbed 2 drops on my knee just as it is.. For my daughter, I mixed jojoba oil and 2 drops of helicrysum and rubbed her knee before bed. It has worked for both of us. I'm glad you have such extensive reviews on your site. For novices like me, this is a great help; along with reading a good book on EO's.

Rating: I love this oil, I made soap with the Helichrysum water and mixed a small amount of this Helichrysum oil with Rosehip seed oil and the smell was floral and light. I just love it mixed with other EO and carrier oils. I was worried that the smell would be over powering but it wasn't and I will definately be using this product again and again.

Rating: I'm glad I read the reviews before I purchased this oil. It has a very stong aroma of castor oil. (Reminds me of my childhood days when my parents would give me a spring cleaning with castor oil). Nevertheless, I will try it for the medicinal properties. Perhaps my next review will be a 5.

Rating: Your Helichrysum has a strong pungent aroma and it works woderfully. Helichrysum is anesthetic, anticoagulant, antispasmodic, antiviral, liver protectant, rids the body of toxins and helps nerves to regrow. After having my face lasered off because of brown spots I used this oil on areas where there were eruptions after. I was amazed at how well it worked to help heal my face. I know keep it on hand for when the occasionall skin eruption happens.

Rating: This is a deeply healing oil. My husband had a really awful cluster of spider bites on his back. I started applying this oil undiluted (a drop for each bite) 3 times a day, and watching the bites change and heal was amazing. It dried them and shrank them so rapidly, that it was like a strange science experiment! As far as the fragrance of this oil is concerned, do I pull this bottle out of the cabinet just to smell it? No. Does it offend me? No. I have applied it to myself undiluted to "map" the evolution of the fragrance. It sticks around, but it does change thoughout the day. It starts earthy-spicy, and as the layers lift away, the ending smell is of freshly dried tobacco leaf. It blends nicely with other EO's, and to me is a superior healing tool.

Rating: I have a client going through radiation therapy. My client was burned so intensely that she could not sleep or move her arms, head, or neck without extreme discomfort. She asked the Dr. if she could put aloe on the burn and he said that was fine. She told him that she was going to have her homeopathic therapist help her.
I mixed lavender, helichrysum, and aloe from my personal plant. Gooey, but the results are amazing! She was able to continue her radiation treatment and the Dr. was pleased.

Rating: As a naturopathic doctor, I have been using Helichrysum for many years with great results! It is amazing at reducing or totally eliminating pain from wounds, stopping bleeding, releiving headaches . . . . . . etc. I would never be without it. Healing should never be about how something smells---- just how well it works!

Rating: I really like this one. I use it on its own all the time, but for those of you who are not to fond of this smell, keep in mind that it is a Mid to Base Note, which means that it will serve as a good foundation in a mix of essential oils. I for example do not like Ginger in its pure form, but mixed with other essential oil it is absolutly amazing.

Rating: Never heard of this oil before buying. Can\'t tell much about its healing proprerties but the smell is terrible, in my opinion. Very strong and obtrusive. Wasn\'t able to use it.
New Directions Aromatics Response:
African Helichrysum is a relatively new Essential Oil, and has not yet gained popular acceptance. It should not be confused with our other Helichrysum, as the African variety has a completely different botanical name.
The fragrance is consistent with what the African Helichrysum should smell like. It is best described as being a combination of floral and mint. It is certainly a strong product, and one we expect to grow in popularity as more literature becomes available.
It may also interest customers to know that the distillery we have purchased from is one of the most reputable companies in Africa.
