Powerful but not abrasive or obnoxious. I love this for lungs, colds, flu... Drop on a tissue and leave on my chest. Helped my dad when he had pneumonia, when i used the tissue trick he wouldn't cough for a good long while! Lovely product ND! Thank you

A nice variation of tea tree. It does have a more pleasant camphorous after-smell. works nice in a zit-blend for spot treatment and prevention, along with lavender, litsea and just a few drops of a blue oil like Blue tansy, German chamomile or yarrow.

Powerful and gentle. I like the feeling after brushing my teeth with it. I leave a few drops sitting on my toothbrush in between brushes.

This EO definitely does not smell sweet to me. Instead, it has a urinaceous smell that reminds me of my cat's litter. I'm giving it 3 starts anyway, though, because it has great therapeutic properties and is non-sensitizing. But beware of the odor!

I reviewed this oil a few months ago and reordered it as it has become somewhat of a staple in my house. The "smell" that I did not care for in my previous review does not exist in this bottle. The smell is sweet with a lovely medicinal (the good kind) that I've grown rather fond of. While my previous review was not against the oil, I do not want to cause people to avoid this invaluable eo. This is one of my top shelf oils I continually use for everything from blemishes to simply freshening the room. Give it a shot.

I have to disagree somewhat with Michael over the scent of this oil. I have purchased Niaouli from several sources, all have a musty smell-still more pleasant than tea tree oil. However, I purchased a sample size from NDA the last time I ordered oils and theirs has a sweet floral back note than I ever never smelled with any other niaouli I've ever purchased. I love this oil because it is so gentle and the action reminds me of a combo of tea tree oil and lavender. i use it straight on cuts, scrapes, fungal infections, zits. It speeds healing and prevents scarring. It's also nice in a diffuser or nebulizer with other oils when there is infection. i highly recommend this one.

Please read this completely before judging this essential oil and remember this is a subjective review. My initial reaction to the aroma was that of disgust. I generally like the smell of carbonaceous oils, but this had a very strange undertone. I finally realized that it has the faintest smell of what I can only describe as cat urine. I considered returning the oil, but, having never smelled Niaouli before and hearing so many wonderful things about it, I decided to keep it. I am so GLAD I did. The oil is a miracle worker for everyone in my home including my cat and dogs. My cleared up some of the "hot spots" on my dog and cats, and the aroma was enough to keep them from licking it off (animal lovers I am, and was, very watchful and careful about applying the oil to my animals). It cleared up my nephew's blotchy skin when mixed simply with almond oil. It cleared my stuffy nose when added alone to a diffuser, and calmed my cough when I mixed it with a bit of lavender to get ride of "the smell." In fact, after I mixed it, I realized how much it enhances lavender that I tried it with a few others. It actually mixes well with many citrus and floral oils giving them a bit of a snap and while the other oils remove any hint of that cat urine smell I feel it has. I never would have thought that an oil I described as having a cat urine smell would actually become one of my favorite essential oils. Bravo mother nature, and bravo ND for making it affordable and accessable!

Very sharp and fresh smelling. I think I will try it as a substitute for eucalyptus in blends.

Quite medicinal in odor, like a lovechild of eucalyptus and tea tree. Dynamic and powerful in respiratory blends, but not for perfume work. I haven't experiment with this in my facial elixirs, but I'm sure the effects are intensely similar to tea tree oil. So similar, in fact, that you might just be better off leaving a half ounce or so of this in the back of your kit and doubling the tea tree oil you keep on hand as a replacement for niaouli.

Similar to tea tree in smell, very camphoraceous, but with an odd fishy undertone.

I'll admit I do NOT like the smell of this stuff. It's along the lines of tea tree or eucalyptus but has more of a "chemical" smell, hard to explain. But you can mix it w/ some other good-smelling oils and it'll tone it down, just be warned.

I have never smelled niaouli before, but to me, it smells horrible, like paint solvent. I can't speak for its therapeutic value yet, as I am trying it for the first time. Luckily, I mixed it with eucalyptus, lemon, lavander, and wild ravensara into a cold mix, so I can no longer pick up the scent. I hope it is as healing as all the other reviewers say it is, since I purchased this oil on the strength of the other reviews.

This is so healing, I mixed Niaouli, Bergamot and Lavender with Sweet Almond oil and put 4 or 5 drops in my dogs ears. In a day and a half her ears weren't itchy anymore, and they smelled good too ! She (before I tried this) was constantly scratching her ears, and they had a bad odor-Not anymore thanks to New Directions high quality oils !!

The Niaouli scent is great for when you feel congested, after you breathe it in you can almost feel your body start to heal itself. I think it also helps with sore muscles.
