Clary Sage Essential Oil
|

Botanical Name: Salvia sclarea Plant Part: Leaves and Flowers Extraction Method: Steam Origin: Bulgaria Description: Clary sage is a short biennial or perennial herb that grows up to 1 meter in height (approximately 3 feet). It has large, hairy leaves with small bluish-purple flowers. Color: Light Golden Yellow Common Uses: Clary sage is viewed by aromatherapists as an antidepressant, and antispasmodic, deodorant, emmenagogue, hypotensive, nervine, sedative, tonic and uterine. It is well known for providing a euphoric action, for balancing uterine issues, and as an agent to clean greasy hair. There is also some documentation of its effectiveness in helping to relax the spasms of asthma. Consistency: Thin to Medium Note: Middle Strength of Aroma: Medium to Strong Blends well with: Clary sage essential oil blends well with generally any essential oil, though it works particularly well with Bergamot, Cedarwood, Roman and German Chamomile, Geranium, Jasmine, Lavender, Neroli, Orange, Rosewood, Sandalwood and Ylang Ylang. Aromatic Scent: Clary sage essential oil has an earthy, fruity and floral aroma that is both nutty and herbaceous. History: The name Clary sage is derived from the Latin word for clear - probably because the herb was once used for clearing mucous from the eyes. During the sixteenth century it was also used in England for brewing beer as a replacement for hops. Cautions: Clary sage is non-toxic, and non-sensitizing. It is not to be used during pregnancy.

I purchased this oil not too long ago and at first I wasn't so sure about it --but..... after working with it now for over a month I love it! It works great for hot flashes and it blends so well with other oils and shea butter! I love the woodsy, grassy smell of it! I might even add it to my product line of balms. Why not share the goodness of it.

This stuff is practically required for every household with children, a few drops of this and some of NDA's frankincense in your oil burner at story time just before bed relaxes the entire house and helps everyone wind down. We also use this in cold process soap and the scent comes through great and holds it scent, awesome when mixed with patchouli and orange. Very good stuff! 5 Stars!

Very green scent, I know you can get a headache from smelling this to long so I was prepared when opening the bottle to sniff lightly. Wow... head rush. I got light headed just smelling the tiniest bit of this. I love it.

This is a very soothing scent and is of very high quality. This was my first order from NDA, and I look forward to many future ones as I venture into soap making. Everything was so nicely packaged!

Hrmm. This seems an unusually bitter-smelling clary to me. Admittedly, I've never cared much for the smell of clary sage to begin with, but others I've used in the past have seemed rather sweeter: more herbaceous and grassy and green, and far less bitterly medicinal. I think I'll want to blend this with a floral, just to take some of the edge off. That said, it does seem to have the therapeutic quality that I've come to expect from a good clary. It works just as well for those euphemistically-termed "women's issues," and is just as relaxing in the bath. It doesn't seem to work any *better* than the others I've used, however, so in the future, I think I'd rather go with a milder-smelling oil.

Lovely Clary. Very green, not as sweet as other Clary Sage's I have come across, but nice. Clary Sage is my absolute favorite oil in the universe!

I used Clary Sage, Peppermint EO (Japanese) & Clove Leaf EO in Jojoba oil on my wife's backache. She's had back surgery in the past and it's a nagging injury, but within minutes she started feeling relief. Aside from it's medicinal properties Clary Sage has a great earthy, but perhaps more woodsy scent to it. It's awesome for men and incredible at helping to formulate a more musky perfume for women.

It smells right. However, it just isn't my favorite type of sage. I was hoping to find that sage of my childhood, picking fresh wild sage in the dessert and on the prairies. All in all, it is still a very nice scent and I think I will try another.

I wasn't sure I liked the scent at first, but I have to admit it's really grown on me. So often when my blend is missing something, it's Clary Sage that makes it perfect. That and its great properties have made it one of my favourites and one I just can't get enough of.

Not my favorite scent. I'm a soap-maker, so I don't know about it's use for aromatherapy or medicine, but I can tell you IMHO, it stinks! I've tried mixing it with other essential oils as recommended below and on EO blending websites with no success. Won't order this again.

Oh, do I ever love this stuff!!! It gives me warm fuzzies all over and the scent is very diferent, but I really like it. I was having a hard time breathing due to a cold (and asthma) the other day and this seemed to clear up my congestion within no time. I am very happy with it!

I have extremely high cholesterol and using this with medication (for now) is the first time in my life that my lipid profile has been within normal ranges on all levels. Medication alone didn't work. I hope to cut down or eliminate the medication in the future.

WhenI first smelled this oil, I wasn't sure if I liked it...it's strong and bitter. After smelling it again, I have noticed that it smells different the longer you try it, as if the scent has layers. Initially it is very strong, then it almost seems to brighten and smell sweeter. I am looking forward to mixing it with other oils.

This is the only source I always trust for clary sage. One of my favorite oils for personal use and for massaging. I find it's one of the best oils to use for women - physically and emotionally. It has a very green, herbaceous smell which isn't everyone's favorite.
