This is the first time I have ever tried Benzoin. It's a quite lovely scent. I find it to be a warm yet soft vanilla fragrance. It's not over powering and almost as a hint of a vanilla extract aroma to it. I read that some described this as smelling like honey. I guess I can see how they said it does but I think it is more to the vanilla side. A lovely addition to my CP soap! And with True vanilla being almost impossible to use in CP, this is a great alternative! I give it 4 stars cause I wish it was just a tweek big bolder. But all the same I think this will definitely be a scent I use over and over again.

This is a great EO. I already knew what to expect when it comes to the thick syrup-like quality of Benzoin, so no complaints there. I've used this oil before as a binding agent for making stick incense. Very lightly coat one end of the stick in benzoin, roll it in your powedered incense mixture, et voila!
As for the fragrance, Benzoin is very subtle. I find the scent closer to faint warm honey with a slight woodsy note, rather than vanilla. Essential oils are not always prized for just the way they smell. In EO blends, I typically use Benzoin when I want to "warm up" the scent of other EOs. Think of this oil as one you can build upon with other oils, and you'll be surprised what you can come up with.

This product is much harder to work with than other essential oils until you get the hang of it. However, it is worth the work it takes to get to know it. The smell of this product is divine, and it is unbelievably healing. In addition it is a powerful, natural preservative. Highly recommend it!

I absolutely love the smell of this benzoin. It is thick but as other reviewers have said, mixes easy when you get it out of the bottle.

This oil is very thick and sticky, but when you scoop it out and mix it with other oils it blends easily. I mixed it with cinnamon leaf and cardamom for a chai scent. Lovely!

Absolutely delicious! Excellent with bergamot and other citrusy smells. But really viscous, hard to measure out of the bottle

This product is a little difficult to work with but well worth the effort. A very natural, gentle vanilla scent that if used sparingly, doesn't discolor. A must have scent.

Nice scent, kind of hard to work with since it is a resin. I usually just take off the orifice reducer and drop it out.

Well, I just got my first order in of Essential Oils. I have to say I am not as impressed with the smell of Benzoin as some of these other people. I mean it smells good in comparison to something like Cade but it's not THAT good. It does have a slightly sweet smell with a small hint of vanilla, but I'm not drooling nor am I finding it hard to keep my nose away from the bottle. Other than the build up and let down by some of these fanatical comments :) I like it. I will have to see how all of these pan out in my perfumes and skin care products. I bought 26 different oils and they all smell so strong and mentholated and herbacious. Whew! We'll see!

A very warm and comforting oil. Since I do not like to put the whole bottle constantly under hot water. I have a long plastic stick that I use to take out just the amount I need. It smells delicious and really helps with chest complaints....Great quality.

Nothing prepared me for the unbelievable scent of this resin. French Vanilla ice cream, no calories, and twice the emotional high. Left me on cloud nine. A little hard to work with as it is so thick and gluey.

Although not the ruby red of my favourite benzoin, this one is affordable and preciously scented. Excellent for the skin, even used neat under bandaids. Good for baby skin products.

This is a thick, syrupy oil with a very rich, sweet scent. If you're someone who wants to scent their products without using synthetic fragrance, but you don't care for the strong medicinal scents many essential oils seem to have, this would be the perfect choice for you. To me, this smells like a sweet vanilla and has become one of my very favorite oils.

This is a great essential oil, but this is the first time I've worked with it. Most of my EO purchases are directed toward producing health benefits rather than an aesthetic purpose, but I love the scents that most people attach to Benzoin - the honey/vanilla smell. Personally, I think it smells like creme brulee, but honey and vanilla are on point as well. This oil does seem to bond well with a variety of oils, from woods to citrus to spices, but it seems to take a back seat with these, so to speak.
As a first time buyer of this oil, there are only two things I would take exception with in the DESCRIPTIONS of it. First, as someone who uses a lot of EO's for home remedies, I think the claims made for the healing properties of this oil against a laundry list of ailments is overstated by some. (I'm NOT claiming anyone, particularly NDA, is intentionally misleading anyone; we all know how claims for an oil's benefits mushroom over long stretches of time)! Particularly, I think there are other oils that are more effective in dealing with depression (clary sage), rheumatism (capsicum, wintergreen, etc.) and chest complaints. Also - and this is my own fault for not deducing it - I would have liked to know how viscous this EO is before buying it, because its viscosity does have some bearing on its use. (This is certainly nothing that can't be solved by leaving the bottle in a bowl of hot water for a few minutes...).
Nit-picking aside, this is a fabulous product at a fabulous price, and I'm not going to be without it again! Very pleasant and extremely versatile fragrance!

When I read about the 'cuddly' vanilla scent of benzoin in an aromatherapy book I was DYING to try some- but I had never heard of it so I thought for sure I would have trouble finding it. Wasn't I surprised to find it for a great deal right hear! The scent is everything I imagined, and its going to make a DELIGHTFUL scent combo! I am looking forward to soaping this one.

Having not read the scent description thoroughly before ordering it, I mistakenly assumed that it would smell similar to frankincense, but NO! The smell of Benzoin reminds me of creamy, warm, vanilla cakes. It is positively delicious. I just received it today, so I haven't used it in anything yet, but I just can't seem to keep my nose out of the bottle cap! It's positively delicious.

This resin smells amazing, but it is very sticky so be sure to do your research of how to deal with such essential oils.. To my nose, the smell reminds me a lot of honey with a touch of vanilla.
Well worth the price. Very high quality. Commonly used in western perfumery.
