Palo Santo Essential Oil

Botanical Name: Bursera Graveolens
Plant Part: Wood
Extraction Method: Steam distilled
Origin: Ecuador
Description: The tree of Palo Santo is originally from the dry tropical forests on the coast of the South Pacific, Ecuador being the main country where this tree is found.
The Palo Santo oil is only concentrated and deposited in the interior of the tree trunk. It can takes up to 10 years to produce the oil and to get concentrate in the their trunk. Only tree branches that fall naturally from the ground are used to make this oil. The average life of the tree of Palo Santo is between 80 and 90 years.
Color: Yellow to light brown liquid.
Common Uses: In aromatherapy, it is considered to be antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial. It can be used as part of a remedy for bronchial coughs, colds, nasal flues, allergies and asthma. It is said to have excellent absorption properties and can be used in massage therapy to relieve pain and inflammation of the muscles and joints, and regenerates skin conditions, promote skin nutrition, healing and flexibility.
Palo Santo essential oil can generate states of calmness and relaxation and is beneficial for meditation, concentration, and for enhancing creativity and learning. In spiritual aromatherapy, it can be used as perfume to release negative energy and to purify and cleanse the spirit.

History: The natives in Ecuador have used it mainly to protect themselves from insects (mosquito) and also in ancestral rituals where shamans use this oil to clear bad energy from the bodies. They also used it as essential oil and to perfume their homes.

I have not been working with this EO long enough to form an opinion of it's healing properties. I will say that the smell is extremely overpowering to me -- to the point where it gives me a nauseous headache. That's with the bottle closed... Anyway, I am hesitant to rate it poorly based just on that, as I believe there is far more to these oils than just the smell. I did find that with enough Labdanum, the smell smoothed out significantly, and the headache went away.

If I didn't know this is a wood oil, I would think it was floral. I like this one also, to me it's kind of a fresh floral, mint smell. The theraputic value makes this a very good choice. Nice!!

What an amazing oil! A little strong at first but very uplifting and wonderfully relaxing. Using before bedtime for a great night sleep or just calming down from a hectic day or settling into your meditation routine. Palo Santo is an oil I can not do without anymore.

This oil is amazing. The scent is fresh and wonderful. I started using it right away to clear away negative energies. It is very uplifting. I can't wait to try this oil in a body spray or perfume.
