Description / Color / Consistency: A thin, clear, pale yellow to light brown liquid.
Aromatic Summary / Note / Strength of Aroma: A top note with a medium aroma, Palo Santo Essential Oil has a fresh, intense woody aroma with a slight hint of citrus.
Product Abstract: Palo Santo is a tree found originally in the tropical forests on the coast of the South Pacific, but Ecuador is now the main country where this tree is harvested. Palo Santo Oil is concentrated, and found only in the interior of the tree's trunk. It can take up to 10 years to produce the oil. The average life of the tree of Palo Santo is between 80 and 90 years, but because of over-harvesting, only tree branches that have fallen naturally to the ground are used for the distillation of this oil. The natives in Ecuador have used it to perfume their homes. It was also used in rituals by shamans.
Cautions: Dilute well before use; for external use only. A dermal irritant, it may cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.
Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping) be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.

Rating: I have never smelled Palo Santo like this before. It smells like PURE LICORICE. I don't know if my lot was bad but I've owned this oil before and it smells beautiful. I can't even use this one. Just don't understand it.

Rating: Fresh and woody with a hint of citrus? Not the one I received. This smells like straight up licorice and it's awful. I can't speak for its therapeutic properties and I gave it 3 stars because it seems like a quality oil and is STRONG but this particular bottle smells nothing like any Palo Santo I've ever smelled. It stinks. I had the same issue with their Laurel Leaf which smelled like diesel fuel. For the most part, I love their oils, but these two were awful. Again, 3 stars because of the authenticity, pricing and company itself but the only thing I can say about this one is if you love licorice, you will love this bottle.

Rating: I have Palo Santo from other companies and I love the scent which is why I bought this one but this one does NOT smell like the other. This smells like liquorice. Exactly like liquorice which I hate. I am diffusing it right now with grapefruit and cedarwood and of course that does change the scent. I can't speak for its beneficial properties however and of course, there's a lot more to an oil than it's smell. That's only one part of the story. I love this company but I wish, like other companies they would give some information on the research and proven properties of the oils they sell.

Rating: I am a BIG fan of Palo Santo. I sell the wood and the resin. I just received the oil and it is great! for me it is not as strong or as pleasant as the resin , but it is great non the less. Smells like Palo Santo with a touch of lemon.

Rating: This is the best palo santo oil I have ever come across!
Sells like crazy, love it! Great price & a little goes a long way!
Rating: I have been getting to know new oils by putting a drop on my aromatherapy necklace and smelling it continually over about a 24-hour period. This palo santo initially had a very strong smell of turpentine and anise for me, very medicinal, a little overpowering, and gave me a touch of headache. 12 hours later, it had mellowed into a much sweeter lemony licorice aroma. It played nicely in an uplifting purification diffuser blend with frankincense, benzoin, and a whole range of citrus oils.

Rating: I'm giving it 5 stars as the quality of this oil is excellent. I enjoy burning palo santo wood and much prefer that than burning or diffusing the oil. This oil I find difficult to blend with as it will dominate a composition even in small amounts. It blends well with orange but don't be fooled, over time the palo santo gets stronger and stronger. I made a shamanic blend with 20% palo santo, 30% orange, 25% patchouli and 25% lavender. It was lovely and very effective in grounding, releasing and uplifting and the palo santo was the dominant smell in this composition. When I came back to this a month later, this blend smelled just like pure palo santo oil, I could barely tell the difference and could no longer detect ANY of the other oils in there. There is a good reason why Palo Santo has the reputation that it does, its powerful stuff.

Rating: Palo santo is very strong and needs to be diluted, otherwise it can cause headaches and stupor. It is amazing made into a spray to clear negative energy and smells just like the burning wood but without the smoke.

Rating: Whoa! This stuff is powerful! I decided to order this after recently being given
some palo santo inscence and loving it. The oil, however, has a very strong
smell. After receiving it, I wofted the bottle every couple of hours. I smelled
different layers every time. Anise/licorice, myrrh, frankincense, sandalwood,
cedar wood, lemon, and mint all came through for me. Not to mention some
spiciness that I cannot really pin point. When I get a new oil, I like to expirence
as complete as possible, usually in a bath. I had to tone this down with some
copiaba before I could do that. Also, I see reviewers jumping the gun and saying
they don't like this (and others) right after receiving it. I've learned over ten years
or so not to jump to conclusions right away. Many oils have lots of constituents that
your brain has to get used to before you can fully appreciate them. Please keep that
in mind guys!

Rating: Well I love this stuff, I find it unusually grounding and uplifiting at the same time. It has a layered complicated fragrance that is difficult to nail down.

Rating: I will never buy this essential oil again. Thank goodness, I only purchased this to try in a 1/6 oz sample size. It smells like Turpentine Oil & then once on the skin it smells like Moth Balls & a very slight hint of spearmint in the background.
It does not do much for my skin problems anyway for me to want to deal with the stinky unpleasant smells that come from this Palo Santo Essential Oil plus the prices are quite high for a non pleasant smelling or working essential oil.

Rating: I bought this oil because I love the wood sticks I have bought before which I burn. Since they are harder to find where I live, and have not found a good source online I decided to give the oil a try. I love New Directions and have been ordering from them for years now. This oil has a strong licorice aroma, which I have to say I am not fond of licorice, once blended however the wood notes come out fuller. It is an excellent muscle relaxant, when blended into a save or cream. Meditative qualities are superb. Very earthy and grounding. Wonderful for removal of negative energies which I get often in my line of work. I highly recommend ND for all of your EO needs, and wants!

Rating: This is an excellent oil to enhance meditation or ground yourself when going to busy public places. I mixed some with a simple base oil in a roll-on application tube and keep in in my purse. Very woody scent. My husband likes to wear it mixed with patchouli or ylang-ylang.

Rating: a very powerful EO (a tiny bit goes a very long way!) that is excellent for clearing negative energy. it's also an effective deterrent against bed bugs (you can make a spray with eucalyptus, lavender and a few other oils, for example). i also made a incredible-smelling scouring powder with a baking soda base and a blend of palo santo (just a drop for 1 cup!), orange, tea tree and lavender. it makes you want to clean something. ; )

Rating: ooh ah, the aroma is out of this world. My parents lived in Ecuador for 2 years when i was a child; i recall the roaring of the ocean waves and the mystical scent of Palo Santo as people used to burn the little twigs from the trees. I am grateful to New Directions oils for carrying this precious oil. It has so many benefits to many to list. so I am to say the least gaga over it. Thank you " New Directions" for Palo Santo and the vast variety of oils you offer
Rating: Wow! A bit over powering. I didn't know what to think of it at first, after letting it breath a minute, and me too, it softens into a wonderfully relaxing, meditative scent. It is fresh, minty, almost licorice like, and has an exotic floral undertone. Great for meditation and creativity. I am excited to explore it's nutricious skin restoring properties as well. It's scent when burned in an oil burner, makes for a very relaxing atmosphere. Just remember a little goes a lot with E.O. It blends well with sandalwood, cedarwood, and cypress. Another great quality oil for a very good price, Nice. I wouldn't shop anywhere else. Thanks N.D.

Rating: New Directions Palo Santo oil is wonderful. Palo Santo is in the same family as myrrh but from South America. I love using it in conjunction with other EO's from South America in a smudge blend. It also blends well in shea butter for a great hand balm.

Rating: I have not been working with this EO long enough to form an opinion of it's healing properties. I will say that the smell is extremely overpowering to me -- to the point where it gives me a nauseous headache. That's with the bottle closed... Anyway, I am hesitant to rate it poorly based just on that, as I believe there is far more to these oils than just the smell. I did find that with enough Labdanum, the smell smoothed out significantly, and the headache went away.

Rating: If I didn't know this is a wood oil, I would think it was floral. I like this one also, to me it's kind of a fresh floral, mint smell. The theraputic value makes this a very good choice. Nice!!

Rating: What an amazing oil! A little strong at first but very uplifting and wonderfully relaxing. Using before bedtime for a great night sleep or just calming down from a hectic day or settling into your meditation routine. Palo Santo is an oil I can not do without anymore.
