Benefits, Quality, and Safety

  • Distinctive Aromatic Profile: Bright, fresh, and fruity-citrus with mandarin- and grapefruit-like nuances, subtle floral notes, and a faintly bitter finish.
  • Aromatherapy Benefits: Valued for its uplifting, refreshing effect on mood and atmosphere.
  • Potent & Pure: Sourced from quality Citrus junos fruit; GC/MS tested for purity and potency.
  • Centuries of Heritage: Cultivated in Japan since at least the Nara period (710–794) and traditionally treasured for its fragrant peel in cuisine, seasonings, and winter bathing rituals.
  • Safe Usage: Dilute appropriately for topical use and perform a patch test. Cold-pressed citrus peel oils can be phototoxic — avoid sun and UV exposure on treated skin, and observe recommended limits for leave-on products. Frequently Asked Questions

What does Yuzu Essential Oil smell like?
Yuzu has a bright, fresh, fruity-citrus aroma with distinctive mandarin- and grapefruit-like nuances, along with subtle floral and slightly bitter undertones. It is more complex and layered than most common citrus oils, which is why perfumers favour it for signature blends.
Is Yuzu Essential Oil phototoxic?
Cold-pressed citrus peel oils, including Yuzu, can contain furocoumarins that cause photosensitivity. If you are formulating leave-on products, dilute conservatively, follow current IFRA guidance for this material, and advise against sun or UV exposure on treated skin. Steam-distilled Yuzu is not phototoxic and is a suitable alternative for leave-on applications.
Is Yuzu Essential Oil safe for sensitive skin?
When properly diluted with a carrier oil, Yuzu is generally well tolerated. Perform a patch test before widespread use, especially if you have sensitive skin, and take extra care with sun exposure if you are using the cold-pressed oil.
What blends well with Yuzu Essential Oil?
Yuzu pairs beautifully with Lavender, Ginger, Cedarwood, Ylang Ylang, Neroli, Jasmine, and Black Pepper Essential Oils. Because it works as a top note, a small amount goes a long way in complex bases.
