THE SCENT STORY - QUIET ORCHARD
Quiet Orchard explores fruit through subtraction.
Most fruit accords lead with juice. This one leads with skin, the fuzzed, slightly dusty surface of a peach rather than what is underneath it.
Blood orange adds depth rather than sparkle, and cardamom warms the whole opening before it has a chance to brighten. Underneath, sandalwood and a restrained vanilla give the fruit somewhere to settle.
The result is a fruit fragrance with no sharpness and no sugar. It feels less like eating something and more like having walked past it.

From the Director of Innovation
Quiet Orchard is part of our Slow Hours Collection, and it exists because fruit in fall fragrance is almost always wrong. The convention is to take an orchard fruit and spice it until it reads as pie. We wanted the opposite: fruit that has been left out, warmed by the room, and lost its edge. Something closer to the smell of a bowl on a table than anything you would eat.
So we worked on the skin rather than the flesh, and used cardamom to warm rather than to spice. Jasmine sits at a trace level to keep the fruit from flattening, and it should not be identifiable as a floral. The hardest part was the sweetness. Peach wants to be sweet. We held the vanilla and tonka at levels that give body without flavour, which is a fine line and took several submissions to find.
This is the most unusual composition in the collection and the one that will surprise people.
