Product Abstract: Carrot is a domesticated form of the wild carrot, Daucus carota, which is native to Europe and southwestern Asia. It is a biennial plant which grows a rosette of leaves with an umbel of white flowers that produce the seeds. The name is derived from the Greek carotos, for 'healing'. The herb was transported to the Americas where it became known as Queen Anne's Lace, but the edible orange root as we know it was developed by the Dutch in the 1700's.
Cautions: Dilute before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.
Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping) be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.
NOTICE: This product contains a component which is listed under California Proposition 65. California residents will receive this product labeled accordingly.

Rating: Under-appreciated. This review is about the aroma since I have not actually put it to use yet in a product. So, I am a huge fan, NO, a lover, of Patchouli and this Carrot Seed oil smells VERY MUCH LIKE patchouli with a hint of celery seed peeking out from underneath. Patchouli is strong (but in soap and shea butter it's warm and delicious). Patchouli is also used as a base note; for example, it deepens lavender when 1 or 2 drops are added to about 20 mL of lavender. So, if you DO NOT like Patchouli or the aroma of celery seed (or celery seed powder), then you will not like the aroma of this. Actually, I missed that when I first bought it. I recall not liking it very much so it likely deepened a bit like patchouli does. Patchouli gets yummier as it ages and this reminds me of that. I hope this helps ;)
New Directions Aromatics Response:
Thank you, Stephanie, for shedding light on the quality of our products. It pushes us to do even better when we hear such positive feedback from our customers.
Rating: So, reading the reviews prior to purchasing this, I understood it had a powerful scent. But reading about it and smelling it are two entirely different things, and wow, yes, this scent is strong!
However, I'm not one to let that deter me, and knowing the skin-loving properties carrot seed is supposed to have, I'm determined to use it in creams and lotions, along with other scents to help mask (or at least mellow) out the earthy, pungent scent of the carrot seed. I just need to find the right blends of essential oils!

Rating: I ordered the carrot oil, not having a plan for it, but I knew it was great for skin. My daughter recently fell from a horse and got very skinned up on her shoulder and leg. I made for her a serum using the carrot seed oil, rose hip oil, German chamomile, jojoba oil and calendula infused almond oil. It's healing well except now it's drying up and itches quite a bit so this should relieve that part of it! As far as the scent of the carrot goes it's earthy and relaxing.
My daughter live in AZ so she will be getting back with me in a few days on how the serum works:-)
Rating: I purchased this oil for its wonderful anti-aging and healing properties and use it in my facial creams. In my opinion, the benefits of this oil well outweigh the scent. It repairs, softens, and tones the skin. I also put it in my healing salve along with calendula oil and plantain. The smell does take some getting used to as it is STRONG, but it is truly an amazing oil and I highly recommend it!

Rating: Carrot seed oil, indeed, has a hideous smell. I put a few drops in to make a soap with mature skin qualities, but when I tried to hide the smell, it didn't work no matter how hard I tried. I didn't want to waste the oils, so I put it in my soap anyway, hoping the smell would disappear. After unmolding my soap..Tada! No more gross scent, only a beautiful blend of the rest. I tried this in conditioner as well, and the bad smell went away in time, too. Great for mature skin!!!

Rating: I would rate this Strong, instead of just medium aroma strength.
It is thick musky earthy. It smells nice after it's blended/diluted to lighten the scent.

Rating: This oil might be very efficient for the skin but the smell is so strong that no other EO can cover it!! I only put 2 drops for 3 -60ml jars of cream and the smell really bothers me.
Rating: I purchased this carrot oil to 'rejuvenate' my skin. I had experienced it before and like the smell. I still like the smell but when mixed with other oils or moisturizers I found that it is so stimulating that it would make me blush - almost like taking too much niacin. Obviously I have to decrease the amount I add to anything in the future but for now, I only use the mix when I won't be seen with a blotchy face (lasts about an hour).
Rating: This stuff works great for so many skin applications... I'm back to order another bottle. Great in lip balm. I am not a huge fan of the smell, but it is mild and can be easily covered with other nicer smelling eos like chamomile or lavender.

Rating: This EO smells very Earthy to me, but it has a sort of nauseating undertone, that I personally find quite unpleasant. That said, I got it for the reputed therapeutic application for wrinkles. It's hard for me to say how well it works for that, because I absolutely have to blend this with other EOs to make the smell tolerable to me. But because the price is so good, and the therapeutic applications are so renowned, I'm giving it 4 stars.

Rating: This oil smells strongly of cooked carrots to me. It kind of grows on you though. As far as working for edema. My mother has problems with swelling in feet and ankles. She put some on her legs and feet mixed with a carrier oil, and by morning the swelling was completely gone. I'm convinced. My skin looks and feels nice with it so far. Will continue to see what happens.

Rating: I just placed my first order with NDA last week. I already love this place. I had my order delivered to my door in 3 days from ordering...crazy fast!!! And everything was so carefully packaged. I loved the hand written note in the box as well... so personal!! I made my first ever skin cream with some carrot seed oil and pink grapefruit and I LOVE it!! I wasn't sure about the smell at first but with the grapefruit it is actually very addictive. I've been covering my whole body in it and I love how my skin feels. I will definately be ordering this again.

Rating: Steam-distilled carrot seed oil has a fresh pine-nut aroma. It is very relaxing to breathing passages, much as are the Boswellia oils, with which it should blend well.

Rating: I can't live without this oil! I use it in my tea tree and carrot seed soaps for eczema, psoriasis and other skin conditions. This oil is so gentle I have used it directly on severely dry skin.

Rating: I am new to using oils and I just tried this oil today. I put 1 drop in my palm with some grapeseed oil for my face(I have combination skin) and it was too strong. My mistake, it definitely needs dilution. I love the smell. It's great!

Rating: I have been very pleased with this oil. I bought it to try in an elixer blended with other EO's and a carrier. I have used it for about 2 months, and was told last week that I have the skin of a baby's. I'd say it's working! As far as the smell goes, it's earthy but pleasant to me.

Rating: I too am a hobbyist and purchased this oil to incorporate into a light facial moisturizing cream. Along with the other ingredients used, I have been very impressed with the quality of the oil as well as the results I've seen so far! As previously noted, the oil is very strong and should be diluted (as with any essential oil). Patchouli and Rosewood essential oils, used minimally, masked the scent of the Carrot Seed oil very nicely...and also have their own healthy benefits in skin care. I will be back to purchase more essential oils from NDA having been very pleased with the quality of the oil, the packaging, the fast shipping and excellent customer service!
Rating: Made a skin cream with carrot seed (and a little bit of patchouli); it's fantastic. I do not buy in large quanties, am just a hobbist and was suprised & pleased with the quality of service I recieved. The excellent packaging and quick deliver provided is worth a mention-am already planning my next order.

Rating: I DON'T PARTICULARLY LIKE THE SCENT OF THIS OIL FOR MY FACE, HOWEVER, IT MASKS WELL WITH A DROP OR TWO OF GRAPEFRUIT OIL. MAKE SURE TO DILUTE WELL! A LITTLE HARSH ON SENSITIVE SKIN, AND I ONLY USED IT AT 1%, BUT IT DEFINITELY CLEANSES!!

Rating: I bought this oil based on the reviews and for it's known anti-wrinkle therapies. But the smell is so stinky to me I'm not sure I could put it anywhere near my face. Maybe it will be better diluted. I will have to do some trials.
