Botanical Name: Copaifera spp

Main Constituents:
β-Caryophyllene: 30-70%

Plant Part: Crude Resin

Origin: Brazil

Extraction Method: Extracted directly from the tree

Description / Color / Consistency: Pale yellow to yellow clear liquid, light in consistency. As the oil ages, especially when exposed to air, the color darkens, brownish at times and slight turbidity may be observed.

Aromatic Summary / Note / Strength of Aroma: A soft woody base note with a slight hint of sweetness to it.

Blends With: Copaiba Balsam Essential Oil blends well with oils from the floral and spice families, oils with Oriental bases, and with the aphrodisiac oils  Rose, Jasmine, Sandalwood, and Frankincense. It can also support the softer qualities of oils such as Ylang-ylang or Vanilla.

Product Abstract: Copaiba Balsam Resin is extracted from trees growing in the wild. They are found mainly in the South American rain forests, particularly in Brazil, Columbia, Peru and Venezuela. The resin is harvested by tapping or drilling holes into the trunk of the tree, much like how rubber trees are tapped. Although this resin is often referred to as balsam, it is not a true balsam. Copaiba Balsam Oil has been used historically as a fixative in perfumes and colognes.

Cautions: Dilute before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.

Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping) be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.

Great oil that does seem to accentuate other oils in blends. Scent is very soft but you do smell it in blends. It's a hard oil to describe but I really like it!!

This is what I've been looking for, a non medicinal or woodsy base note that isn't Peru balsam. Smells more like a sugary syrup to me, or a spring honey, not a dark golden honey. Very light, but hopefully will still be present with other scents.

Copaiba oil doesn't have a strong aroma, but it's very pleasant. It has a hint of vanilla in it and blends well with citrus.

This is a very light scent making it a terrific fixative. It props up delicate blends without obscuring them.

LOVE this EO!!! It's worth the price! Just a drop or 2 to other blends gives a wonderful backdrop. Depending on what it's mixed with I've noticed it can add a honeyed, fruity, or woodsy note. Really fun to play with this one!!! Thanks ND! Great product!

Very subtle, barely there aroma. A little bit woody,a little sweet with a touch of rubber. I'm not detecting the honey note. Good as a fixative.

Copaiba Balsam is not real balsam, and the smell is extremely subtle. It's a warm, honey-like scent that works better as a backdrop to more dominant scents. It's used as a fixative in blends to help extend and prolong other scents. I use it in soap to do just that. I've been given contradicting information about the oil as being great for the skin--I've heard that it can be pretty desensitizing. But I don't use much of it, strictly because I use it as a base note.

This is one of my absolute favorite EOs!! I would probably use it in all of my perfumes and colognes if I weren't trying to maintain a little variety. Whenever I need to mellow out a mixture, a little of this does the trick perfectly. I much prefer the scent of this balsam to Peru balsam, which is stronger and more bitter, so if you're hesitating between the two, I recommend trying this one. The only down side is that it can definitely be sensitizing, and the strength of the aroma is rather mild, so I find that I end up adding a decent amount and then have to dilute the final product quite a bit to keep it from being irritating to the skin.

Another pleasent e/o. I love using this e/o in my soap and lotion recipes. This is a great aid in recipes that need a bit more honey scenting than just bee honey alone provides. This is warm and very honey like.

Lovely balsam. Understated. Reminds me a bit of chaulmoogra, only with more balsam and resin aromas. They should go well together. The fragrance going on is relaxing and the feel of it on your skin is very soothing

I ordered this oil to use as my painting medium. In the china/porcelain painting world, painters use Copaiba oil either by itself, or to mix with other oil to create a medium to paint. I was told that there are heavy, medium and light Copaiba oil available in the industry. After I use this, I will rate this product as a light Copaiba oil. I love the packaging and the light weight of the oil, in case I will mix with any other oil, the blending will be smoother. The price is terrific. You will pay more for shipping but if you order in larger quantity, shipping won't be that bad. And the service is excellent, very quick delivery with carefully packaging. This is the site I think of every time I need any kind of oil.

Light, warm and pleasant, with the latex-y backnote present in most myrrh oils and a lush, benzoin-esque touch of waxy honey and light spice. A flourish of this in a complicated base-note blend does wonderful things to resinous, almost church-y fragrances, and rounds off harsh, earthen notes like patchouli in an interesting way.

The fragrance of this oil is very light but in perfumes it comes out and holds the others together and makes them last longer - known as a fixative. Medicinally it is a dynamo!

This is one of my favorite oils. Its versatility is astounding - it can relieve pain, reduce inflammation, killl germs, heal wounds, sooth and soften your skin among many other things. The quality of the Copaiba balm at newdirectionsaromatics.com is superb. On top of all this - it smells heavenly.
