Botanical Name: Boswellia serrata

Main Constituents:
a-Thujene: 60.2%

Plant Part: Resin

Origin: India

Processing Method: Steam Distilled

Description / Color / Consistency: A thin, colorless to pale yellow liquid.

Aromatic Summary / Note / Strength of Aroma: A base note with a medium aroma, Boswellia serrata has a warm and spicy, woody balsamic aroma that is distinct from Somalian/Middle Eastern Frankincense. Its pungent aroma is noticeably different and lacks the smokey notes of the Carterii variety.

Blends With: Basil, Bergamot, Cardamom, Cedarwood, Chamomile, Cinnamon Bark, Clary Sage, Coriander, Geranium, Myrrh and Vanilla.

Product Abstract: Frankincense originates from a small scraggly but hardy tree indigenous to the Middle East, which is small with abundant pinnacle leaves and white or pale pink flowers. The resin begins as a fragrant sticky milky-white liquid that flows from the trunk of the tree when cut. The dried tears are collected, and the resin is then distilled, producing the precious oil. The resin is known as olibanum, derived from the Arabic al-luban or 'that which results from milking', referring to the milky sap. It is used as incense, and has been traded for 5,000 years. Widely used in ancient Egypt, it was one of the ingredients used in the holy oil described in the Talmud. Frankincense was brought back to Europe by Frankish Crusaders (Frank-incense), and the oil is still highly prized today in the perfumery industry, and widely used in the manufacturing of skin-care products.

Cautions: Dilute before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.

Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping) be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.

Dear New Directions Aromatics, I always love shopping with you. I can depend that your shipping prices are very reasonable. The products are fantastic! People love frankincense! I hear many good things about that one. The peppermint supreme is always, in my book, a superior product, very aromatic. Thank you! Jesse Rosebud herb

I have never purchased frankincense myself before this, but I remember the smell when I was little in church and this is slightly different than what I remember,it is very licorice like, with a Woody/ ground characteristics. When you put it on a scent strip and let the licorice like top notes evaporate off,the smell is very very mesmerizing and hypnotizing! It is a very good, cost efficient buy,but I will be trying the traditional, more expensive carterii next time to compare them.

My wife hates cheap smelling frankincense. She loves this one. No bad reactions, only positive.

This seems like a good oil for the price. It's clearly not the same scent as the more traditional carterii, but it's also a whole lot cheaper.

This was out of stock for a while, so I bought it when it reappeared hoping it might be from a better batch than ones that got negative reviews before. Most of the negative reviews didn't like that the scent was weak, but I thought that wouldn't bother me since I hadn't encountered a frankincense I didn't like. I'd already tried the non-organic frankincense serrata here, which is my least favorite so far, but I thought the organic version couldn't be worse and might even benefit from smelling weaker. But I was wrong. It's the first frankincense I've actively disliked. It has a heavy acridness that makes my nose plug up like it does in response to smog in the air. So I hoped it was one of those oils that gets better with age like they say some resin oils do, but I was disturbed when I tried adding it to some clementine oil and the mix got cloudy, which has never happened before with a frankincense. Customer service just said that "different oils can react differently when used." Not very helpful. So try not to be tempted by the words Frankincense and Organic together. I'd steer clear of this one.

This is an excellent price. I liked the scent, and the oil worked well for lung, sinus, and chest complaints. It's nice to have an organic option that is a reasonable price, that I'm not concerned about using liberally.

Purchased this particular product several months ago, when I was first getting into organic oils. I had never smelled frankinsence before, but this product smelled exactly how I would imagine burning frankinsence resin would smell. A quiet, smoky odor, vaguely musky, with an air of mystery about it. This is now my favorite oil to use in my personal fragrance blends.

I bought a lot of this EO from NDA, and I'm very pleased with the quality, and price! It's blending beautifully with other oils, and it's working as needed in our various formulas. I definitely recommend buying Frankincense here, as the organic one is a steal, and essential for every kit.

My family was paying so much for our frankincense oil before we found this. It is just as strong as the other oils I have bought and it works just as well. 100% satisfied with this purchase!

I do like Boswellia Carteri frankincense better than Serrata, but I got this one because it's organic and seems to have many of the same properties. My favorite use for this oil is in bath salts.

I've purchased from this company from several years now & always been very happy ---- until buying this item. This frankincense oil is one that you should pass by, for sure, if you expect a frankincense scent. The scent of this one is not unpleasant, but is so mild as to almost be missed. In a blindfold test, I'd not be able to identify it. I'll spend a little extra $$ this time, and go back to a frankincense that's worth having.

I like the Egyptian frankincense much better than this one. The Egyptian frankincense smells woody and sweet, while this one smells too muddy, IMHO. The organic version of EO's usually smell more intense, but this one smells watered down...Nevertheless, at this price, it's a great value, and perhaps it would smell better over time. I'll have to see.

I adore Frankincense...own several from NDA and love them all. This one really stands out to me as a bit stronger scent with a more-smoky depth to it. It is really special. Of course, they all are...but I was surprised by the different notes I could detect here. Love on my pillow at night as well as in skin care. Thank you!!

I have a business making and selling herbal salves and essential oil blends. I found NDA a little while ago through a friend who also uses these oils for their soap company, and I'm thrilled with these products! The Organic Frankincense essential oil is very fragrant and effective, perfect for my headache oil blend. I'll be buying all my Organic oils from NDA in the future!

This frankincense is wonderful. I really like the fragrance, it is so uplifting. This company's packaging is quite something. It is wrapped very well, with very heavy boxes. It got to my door in excellent condition. I had purchased some frankincense from another company, but it wasn't at all like this one. It pays to buy quality!

A friend of mine was diagnosed with brain cancer. I knew that Frankincense oxyginates the body. I figured it was worth the test to see what it would do with his cancer. Twice a day he dropped a drop on the crown of his head. Within months he was found to be cancer free. I also used the oil for calming a schizophrenic sister. The oil gave her clarity she needed. She commented on how powerful it helped her after she went back home. Recently I used it to break bronchitus. Out of all the oils it is my favorite. I have used it to break off heavy stress effects, depression and more.
