Product Abstract: Palmarosa is a wild plant that grows in the area northeast of Bombay and across the Himalayan Mountains to Nepal and to a lesser extent, Pakistan. It has long slender stems and terminal flowering tops. The grassy leaf from which the essential oil is derived is extremely fragrant. It is used extensively as a fragrance component in cosmetics, perfumes and especially soaps due to its excellent tenacity. Palmarosa is a member of the Lemongrass family, and was known as Indian Geranium Oil. It is still used in blends to extend the more expensive Rose oils.
Cautions: Dilute well before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.
Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping) be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.

Rating: A lovely scent that has been a mainstay in my soap-making. I have the best-selling soap I use this in. People love the smell and it holds a long time in cold process soap. A little goes a long way, too. Excellent quality.

Rating: I had avoided buying Palmarosa for a long time, as grasses usually aren't my favorite aromatics. On initial inspection, I wasn't very enthused; it seemed very mild with a typical grassy-herbaceousness, a slight hint of citrus, and muddled floral nuances. I found it to be quite complimentary to Geranium and Nagarmontha. And after letting it sit on the scent strip overnight, I found it had developed into a beautiful floral-citrus scent, with no remnants of the grassy mustyness to be found, I love it. I'm eager to begin experimenting with how to reap the most from this nice oil..
Rating: this has been an amazing oil to experiment with.. and another oil that smells totally different on the skin - a nice scent too! I'm enjoying this oil & recommend it

Rating: I really love this essential oil. When i bought this i was a bit skeptical about this because of the herbaceous smell but i made soap with it with a blend of orange as the base and the scent survived and i didn't use that much. I would be repurchasing. great job

Rating: Floral, yet herby. More like floral, rose, undertones, which is what you want sometimes. This works well with so many other scents. Lavender, for example. So many uses.

Rating: I used 1 drop each palmarosa and rose geranium in 4 oz face lotion with my rose dilution to enhance the rose scent, beautiful! From the bottle I'd described it as a muted, earthy rose scent, but I haven't experimented with it in a lotion or cream yet. I'd call it a keeper.

Rating: A very herbaceous rose smell. Can be overpowering. Best blended with other EO.

Rating: I've ordered Palmarosa from other suppliers and have been searching for the Palmarosa with a rose scent that isn't too medicinal. Finally, I have found it.

Rating: I love the slightly powdery rose scent of this oil straight from the bottle. I can't wait to blend it.

Rating: I bought a 1/2oz. bottle of this months ago to see what the fuss was about, and it has sat on the shelf unused for months. I had taken a whiff of it straight out of the bottle, and found it unimpressive and not at all rose-like. I finally got around to reading some comments and decided to dab a bit on my hand, and wow! I was missing out. After a minute, you get a great rose scent with citrusy/geranium notes. I will definitely be ordering more.

Rating: I bought a 3.3 ounce bottle of Palmarosa, with no real idea what I planned to do with it. Then I read that coconut oil mixed with essential oils made an effective deodorant. I tried it. It worked, without getting any oil stains on my clothes. For some reasons, commercial deodorants don't work for me. The coconut oil and Palmarosa oil worked brilliantly. I heat the coconut oil under the hot water in the sink for a few seconds, pour about a teaspoon or so into the palm of my hand, and then add a generous amount of palmarosa oil, maybe 12 drops or so. I massage it into my underarms and then everywhere my skin is dry. The scent is pleasant and gentle. It dissipates fairly quickly. I'm surprised this really works so well. Coconut oil by itself doesn't quite do the job. I haven't tried palmarosa on its own yet because I seriously need to order some more. Using it as described alone a 14 ounce jar of coconut oil and 3.3 ounce bottle of palmarosa has served me well for more than 6 months. Palmarosa is a wonderful oil for other purposes as well, but it's so spectacular in this use that I'm content and about to order more. The 33 ounce bottle should last me more than 5 years. It says about it's a dermal irritant, but I haven't noticed any itching or other ill effects from it. Perhaps it's because I mix it with coconut oil first.

Rating: I absolutely love palmarosa in soap, 3/4 lavender, 1/4 palmarosa - dresses lavender up so beautifully! I also love it with eucalyptus, a little peppermint and lavender in the vaporizer in the winter to keep our crew well!

Rating: it took me almost 1 year, but finally I have fallen in love with palmarosa! I found it very off putting before and kind of sickly bitter pointless and a bit 'old lady' like.
You simply MUST try it mixed with rose geranium, lavender bulgaria and tea tree in equal parts, its incredible!
By:Robert, Prescot, California Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 29-Oct-2013
Rating: I don't know what palmarosa is supposed to smell like, but I bought a large bottle based on the reviews. OOB it has an odd smell. It reminds me of salted egg yolks. I soaped with it anyway, but even after cure, it still smelled funny, albeit to a lesser degree.

Rating: This is such a wonderful smelling oil! I had bought it for its medicinal properties, to blend with my shampoo, but I love the smell (kinda like roses, kinda like geranium, kinda like chamomile). SOOOO nice!

Rating: I bought this product to save myself some money on buying expensive branded body butters for my extremely dry skin. This product is thick and hydrating without being greasy. I highly recommend it.
By:Lori, Overland Park, Kansas Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 16-Sep-2012
Rating: an odd scent that is difficult to "un-pack" at first, but I think I finally got it: palmarosa hits your nose with a warm flush of rose and follows quickly with a tangy citronella finish - similar to rose geranium but less cloying and more complex. I think it would be lovely with lemongrass or petitgrain.

Rating: When I first smelled this it was not what I was expecting..Granted, I had no idea WHAT to expect as I've never ever smelled the stuff.
So judging only by the name, I thought floral. What I got was tea. A nice, warm, Sunday afternoon cup of tea. I LOVE it.

Rating: Very floral herbaceous scent. I don't personally like the scent, but it reportedly has a lot of skin benefiting properties, which makes it a very popular oil in the cosmetic business.

Rating: I purchased this EO for its antibacterial properties. I mixed this EO with lavender EO to create a beautiful fragrance, perfect to diffuse in my nebulizer. I also added some to eucalyptus EO and made wax tarts. A little goes a long way.
By:Julie, Greenfield Park, Quebec Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 09-Nov-2005
Rating: I don't find this EO particularly sweet. It smells herbaceous, and I do sense a hint of rose, but there's also an undertone I'm not very fond of that smells a little like a chlorinated pool. Strange, I know, but that's the best comparison I can think of. That undertone doesn't ruin the scent for me, but it makes it significantly less useful in perfume making than it would be otherwise.

Rating: Excellent! A very rich palmarosa. Others I've smelled remind me of Dial Soap, but this one is delicious! It holds up well in cold process soaps. I've yet to try it in other products.
By:Cynthia, Mount Carroll, Illinois Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 08-Sep-2010
Rating: This Palmarosa is distinctive & quite mellow. It's a beautiful oil to use in perfumes to give them lasting quality.
By:Jefa, Calgary, Alberta Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 09-Nov-2005
Rating: Amazing price for such a useful and complex EO. Palmarosa is like an herbal rose, only the floral quality is very subtle, unlike so many rose and rose geraniums. It has a powerful green herbal quality that dominates and it may be all you experience at first. But let it out of the bottle and you will fall in love with this one.
By:Amanda, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 23-Jan-2010
Rating: I love this scent and actually prefer it over rose. It's sweet mellow floral smell is fantastic. I have used it in creams and soaps. It holds up suprisingly well for a floral. I also think it smells great blended with sweet orange e/o. I think it's like a modern spin on the rose...without the old lady victoran feel.
By:Heather, Colorado Springs, Colorado Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 26-Aug-2009
Rating: An interesting scent-a little hard to pin down at times. It changes outside of the bottle, and seems to be different, depending on the medium. In creams, it takes on a lemony tea scent. In room sprays, the floral attributes are more apparent. Mixed with cedarwood in a soy candle, it is my husband's favourite! It takes on a sweet, almost sugary note. Can't wait to try it in soaps.

Rating: Amazingly strong scent. Wonderful oil to deodorize and disinfect a room.
By:Melinda, Payson, Utah Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 25-Sep-2009
Rating: Like a lovely, rosy geranium sans the "minty," almost henna-like backnote geranium carries and with a brief after-odor reminiscent of a rosy lemongrass or lemon balm, even. Also comparable to geranium therapeutically, as an all-purpose skin tonic, and even more remarkable when you blend the two. I love this in my perfume work as an extender for most high-end florals, and to keep them from overwhelimg softer odors, like balsams and the coniferous notes. High quality at a seriously low price. Gorgeous!

By:Jackie, Porter's Lake, Nova Scotia Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 09-Nov-2005
Rating: This is not the best palmarosa I have ever experienced, but at this price it's simply amazing. This oil works ! I would not consider it a skin irritantas the description says, maybe in high doses, because it stimulates circulation like not many other. It feels warm on the skin and at the right dosage it can be a very pleasing oil to work with !
It feels a little overpowering from up close, but it soons melts into a pink fluid fragrance, feels a bit citrusy even with some distance. A wonderful array of floral bouquet soon follows afterwards.

Rating: I purchased several essential oils from a company, including Palamrosa, on ebay instead of here because they cost a little less. I have always used New Directions in the past but made a huge mistake in switching. I spent over $100 and ended up with oil scents I barely recognized. New Directions' Palmarosa is hands down the best scent and quality you can get for the prices. Not a heavy camphorous scent like other companies. Relaxing, slightly floral and green. I will not shop anywhere else again for this or any other scent.

Rating: This oil is a surprise hit at my clinic. Try palmarosa in a salt or sugar scrub. I use its gentle, penetrating scent in an incense my incense-making class called "Fluid Focus".

Rating: i love this oil, but can't tell which i prefer, this or geranium. i am also going to try the rose geranium because all of the geranium fragrances are enchanting and revitaliziing.
Rating: I totally agree that Palmarosa has lasting power in cold process soaps, something that can be tricky with other essential oils. I use this wonderful oil in several different scent blends with great success.

Rating: I like this scent a lot--floral, rosey, but not too sweet. I use it a lot in lotions and soaps for skin care--it blends very nicely with chamomile and lavender.

Rating: I'm new to EO's, but I really do like this New Directions. The people are so nice and the oils are so fragrant and pure. I love this Palmarosa oil, it's so fresh and calming. I use it in a Transition blend with Cedarwood and Ylang Ylang Extra. This blend is great for making that transition from work to relaxing or from work to Yoga. Thanks ND!!!

Rating: When I bought this oil I didn't expect to love the scent; I just wanted something less camphorous to use when I had the flu. Generally I'm not wild about "floral" fragrances, but this one is really nice, particularly for summer because the scent is fresh, not cloying. Right now I'm combining this one with lavender and bergamot in a linen spray. I think this scent is best used in combination with others, even though it's very pleasant from the bottle.

Rating: This truly works. Right after I ordered this my teenager brought home the flu. After diffusing thru the whole house I sat back and watched my family recover faster than ever. Really qiute a wonder. Thanks so much for this fine quality EO.
Rating: Definately one of the less medicinal smelling flu and cold seasion EOs I will be using this winter!
Lovely aroma! Clean and crisp floral.
