Product Abstract: This climbing woody vine uses trees or other supports to grow to about twenty feet high, but is normally kept to about 12 feet for commercial purposes and has a lifespan of about twenty years. The word 'pepper' is derived from the Latin word piper, which was taken from the Sanskrit word pippali. It has been by the Greeks and Romans. The Turks levied a tax on pepper, while during the Middle Ages the Dutch, the French and the Portuguese often went to war to fight over this lucrative trade with the Far East.

Rating: I can't say enough about this oil.. it's one of my top favorites of all time, every time still. I would love to add this oil to everything, because it just makes everything better! I highly recommend it

Rating: I love the scent of this essential oil! Some days I've used it on my pulse points as a perfume. I'm developing a new lotion scent with this, damask rose and sandalwood. I think people will respond well to the scent. It would lend itself well to products designed for men, but it also adds a little mystery for products designed for women. AND Black Pepper is considered an aphrodisiac so...

Rating: I love the smell of this oil. Nice, clean and peppery bite and can be mixed with Juniper berry patchouli and lavender to make a very nice blend for men's body products. Doesn't last as long as I would like in CP soap but holds nice in non-soap products.

Rating: Oh how I wish I could afford the larger size. This oil is fantastic in massage lotion. Very warming and soothing. Really great in muscle rubs!

Rating: This is a nice warm scent with a warm touch. I use a drop of this in ten drops of carrier to rub my feet before bed.
By:Tiffany, Morrisville, Pennsylvania Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 24-Dec-2012
Rating: This one is good. Really good. I am taking some time to find the exact right blend but I've used it in chai concotions, and on sore muscles with a carrier oil and it is wonderful. Theres something in the scent that I want to blend/compliment it with but haven't put my finger on it yet.

Rating: I was very hesitant about purchasing this scent, so I got the sample size. All I can say is AWESOME! Sometimes I sneak to the workroom just to smell this, smells exactly like freshly cracked peppercorns. A little goes a very long way in soap!
By:Ashley, Madison, Wisconsin Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 02-Nov-2011
Rating: This is a really nice middle note. It's particularly good for rounding out scents that are too sweet, sharp, or spicy. This scent is warm and very pleasant. I highly recommend it, especially for making men's cologne.

Rating: This went right into my muscle rub formula. It added a nice warmth. It is strong so start with small amounts.
By:David, Plaistow, New Hampshire Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 18-Aug-2008
Rating: A wonderful spicy smell that compliments almost any essential oil. Mix a bit with some of your body lotion to keep you warm on your way to work in the winter (careful with this one until you know how sensitive you are). There is a sweetness to it that almost reminds me of chocolate. Overall, a pleasant surprise for an initial skeptic. Great quality and price ND. By the way guys, do not do what I did and get overeager when the jar arrives by practically shoving the bottle up your nose. Tears and redness will be your future for the following 10 minutes. Trust me!

Rating: Lovely clean and spicy scent.
By:Jenny, St. Johns, Michigan Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 22-Aug-2010
Rating: Stimulating, crisp and - well - peppery! A wonderful oil that works beautifully in my muscle rubs. A great addition to the apothecarian or aromatherapists repertoire.

Rating: A great pepper fragrance. Smoother and less sharp than I was expecting.
By:Jenn, Vancouver, British Columbia Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 09-Nov-2005
Rating: Bright, spicy, true pepper fragrance. Mixes well with citrus oils.
By:Jenn, Vancouver, British Columbia Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 09-Nov-2005
Rating: When you smell that one at first you can't beleive it... that is the whole goodness of pepper aroma without the stignyness. I admit I was a little shy to smell it with the "official technique" that is opening the cap and smelling the content from close to far in both nostrils.
This oil is so thin and pure, it's a wonder, I'm so curious to try the organic kind to see the difference, in my experience this is very hard to beat !
It has a medium penetrating odor, very volatile, from a little distance it shows its full spice character as it disapears with a trail of stimulating sensation. Then with some distance it smells fresh and jungly ; rich and damp green undertones.

Rating: I bought black pepper as an experiment. Could it really warm up the body? Diluting it with olive oil, I rubbed it on my cold hands. To my astonishment, it worked!

Rating: I wasn't sure if I'd like this one or not but I read a lot of formulas that included black pepper and decided to try it. To my surprise I really like it! It doesn't smell quite as "harsh" as a jar full of peppercorns, but you can definitely tell it's black pepper.
By:Leslie, Lexington, Kentucky Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 14-May-2009
Rating: Smells exactly like black peppercorns. Very true pepper smell. The Green is a little sweeter smelling and the White has a bite to it. I love them all !
By:Annmarie, Tempe, Arizona Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 08-Oct-2008
Rating: Black pepper is one of my favorite scents. I was surprised this one has a slight sweetness to it. Very nice.
Rating: An amazing scent! Adds a beautiful spice note in blends.

Rating: Frankly, I bought this because if was the cheapest of the peppers that I could try. I've seen many toiletry recipes that call for pepper essential oil and was afraid I wouldn't care for the scent, so I went with the cheap one. Much to my suprise, this is a delightful oil.
The oil has a dry, spicy smell to it, somewhat similar to fennel. I think this will become one of my favorites in creating new scent blends.
So far I have been very pleased with the quality of all of the essential oils I have purchased from New Directions. If you you are considering purchasing essential oils for the first time, you can stop looking now. Go ahead and buy them here and ta lot of money at other places, getting inferior essential oils. The prices here on some oils are suprisingly low, and the others are definitely competitive.
Rating: Sharp black scent with a great use for holding together the rest of the fragrence-- I've used with basil for an awakening bath oil and with peppermint for a suprisingly effective natural pest control spray

Rating: What a fantastic oil! I bought it to treat neuralgia, arthritic and muscular pain. I expected this EO to have a very sharp scent that would be of limited aromatic use. I'm happy to say that the scent - while certainly peppery - is not sharp or overpowering at all. In fact, I've started wearing it as a single note fragrance. It's also AMAZING in combination with other EOs: clove, cinnamon, ginger, orange oils, frankincense, cedarwood... Black pepper oil also seems to "ground" other fragrances in the way benzoin oil does, but without altering or sacrificing its own scent; it just ties the fragrance together. For those who have never tried this oil, it DOES smell like fresh peppercorns that have not yet been ground or cracked, with a slight fruity backnote. And it does work very well in combination with other oils in treating neuralgia, arthritis and sore muscles. Yet another New Directions EO I won't ever be able to live without!
By:Amber, Ludlow, Kentucky Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 09-Jul-2007
Rating: I love the smell of black pepper...not the cheap powdery kind that comes out of a shaker, but the real stuff...where you take the peppercorns and grind them in a grinder. This EO is just like that...pure pepper scent. Love it.

By:Louise, Boucherville, Quebec Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 09-Nov-2005
Rating: An amazing aroma! This is the purest form of this oil I have come across. Note the cautions however as one could get lost in this scent!
