Description / Color / Consistency: A thin, colorless to pale yellow liquid.
Aromatic Summary / Note / Strength of Aroma: A top note with a strong aroma, Petitgrain smells like orange blossoms, but less floral, more herbaceous, and with a bitter undertone.
Product Abstract: Native to Southeast Asia, the bitter orange tree that provides Petitgrain, Bitter Orange and Neroli now grows throughout the Mediterranean and sub-tropic areas worldwide. Originally the oil was produced from the unripe oranges when they were the size of cherries; in fact its name comes from petit grain, which in French means 'little grain'. This proved uneconomical, and thus began its extraction from the leaves and twigs of the tree instead. It is used extensively in perfumery and cosmetic preparations.
Cautions: Dilute before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.
Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping) be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.

Rating: My hands down favorite of any citrus oil! Pettigrain is perfect mixed with a little lemon and frankincense! Nice bold sweet, strong, and relaxing. I recommend using it along in a humidifier - trust me :) Maybe one day I'll purchase the 11 Pounds, but for now the 3.3 oz bottle will have to do :)

Rating: Such a beautiful, wild scent. It's a true blend of fruity, floral, and herby! Surprisingly well-rounded; it's not too fruity/sweet, pugently floral, or annoying herbaceous whatsoever. I've got nothing else to say, it makes me happy and I'm really impressed.

Rating: I purchased this on a whim and I couldn't be happier! I will absolutely be buying larger quantities soon! This is a beautiful EO
By:Ginger, Puyallup, Washington Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 07-Feb-2014
Rating: I absolutely adore this oil! I find it to be reminiscent of it's precious relative, neroli essential oil, but with a more of a herbacious hint to it, which I love as well. Of course, much more affordable too. They are both delicious. I will always, always buy this oil!! Thank you!

Rating: lovely green uplifting smell similar in action to neroli - a must have.
By:Mary, Boulder, Colorado Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 10-Nov-2012
Rating: Lovely scent, both floral and orange with a tinge of herbal. Hoping to mix it into the new conditioner that I ordered. With it's complex scent it's an oil you will enjoy again and again.

Rating: I just bought a sample size to try. I really like the scent of this petitgrain. I did not find it bitter at all like others I've tried.

Rating: This smells exactly like twigs and leaves. Easily identifiable. It has as many skin benefiting properties as the expensive neroli. I use this in soaps and it works great.
By:Steven, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 11-Dec-2011
Rating: This smells exactly like a broken twig from an orange tree, citrusy but with bitter undertones that are not entirely pleasant. That said, the overall smell is not bad. I just find it hard to mix with other EOs and would use it more for its therapeutic properties than for its actual smell.

Rating: Fresh and herb-like...I'm not sure I like it alone but I think it would be great with the citrus oils.

Rating: There is just something about petitgrain that I am so addicted to!!! Maybe because of the refreshing notes, and everytime someone gets a whiff you hear, mmmmmmm.......Truely recommed this for every mixture.

Rating: I like initial herbaceous scent out of the bottle, but it smells like mustard or pickles to me. Would not purchase again.

Rating: I purchased this oil without knowing anything about it--just had a feeling that I needed it in my repertoire of oils. And, wow, am I glad to have it! As soon as I smelled it, I knew it was "MY" oil. It calms me and balances every extreme emotion.
By:Melinda, Payson, Utah Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 25-Sep-2009
Rating: Like neroli with a pop of galbanum or cypress or something else in the "green" family. Not a substitue, per se, especially not therapeutically, but an interesting change of pace for chypre and floral fragrances in need of some grassy qualities sans the incense or wood notes found in most "green" odors.

Rating: I mixed Petitgrain with Peru Balsam and what a great aroma. I use this for my deodorant mixed in shea butter and it is wonderful. The best mix I have tried. I had only bought a small size now I am back to get a larger size.
Rating: Nice smell, but I don't know why everybody says it reminds them of neroli... not even close!
Good value though

Rating: I picked up this EO on the recommendation of the last reviewer before me---can't wait to see how it blends!

Rating: For a beautiful scent combine this Petitgrain with the other essential oils in the Orange family - Neroli, Bergamot and Orange. The blend is a natural and uplifting scent for the diffuser or anything else you would like. This Petitgrain does have a beautiful scent all on its own as well.
By:Vanice, Cambridge, Ontario Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 09-Nov-2005
Rating: Great fresh, green scent! I didn't like petitgrain when I first smelled it--too fresh and strong--but now I use it quite a bit (in deodorant blends, air fresheners, and uplifting blends).

Rating: I have not had substantial experience with Petitgrain, love the idea that it can mimic Neroli, for much less. Looking forward to finding more ways to use it. I enjoy reading the reviews for the ideas given Thanks NDA and everyone.
With the price I could aford to experiment!!

Rating: Fantastic light, fresh, floral citrus aroma. I blend equal parts of Mandarin and Petitgrain to make a Neroli type aroma.
By:Karen, Spring Hill, Florida Top ReviewerDate: Loyal Customer Since: 04-Dec-2007
Rating: A fresh clean scent that is so easily used in blends. Citrusy with a bitter green airy tone. A must have! Thanks NDA!
Rating: One of my new favourite oils! I like the scent because it is not overly "sweet" and blends well with an earthy/woody toned oil. Fresh, clean scent when used in a burner.

Rating: Lovely scent - widely used in perfumery.
Do not expect a real orangy aroma - it is citrusy but much more green.
Wonderful aroma.
Great quality!

Rating: This oil is also one of my favorites....
if you don't have the money for neroli.....buy petitgrain.
Ok, it's not the same vibrationally or any other way, but it comes from the leaves of the same tree, and the scent is very close yet a little more 'green'. I absolutely love this oil with a nice balsamic or woody scent (like sandalwood).
Truly a beautiful treasure.
